EDIT Note of explanation: I put this here because Prague said in another thread that there is speculation in Belgium that RD may be obliged to sell Standard when STVV are promoted. I am inferring that the speculation arises from this ongoing process. STVV are now 10 pts clear with 6 games to go.

Sint-Truiden picked up last weekend in the second tier the scalp of leading pursuer AS Eupen. Eupen follow already eleven points behind STVV and with only seven rounds to go, nothing indicates that STVV will lose the title. Yet that does not mean automatically that the club will also be promoted.
On Thursday [March 5th], STVV must appear a second time before the Licensing Commission. The club must provide additional information on their license application. This is not so unexpected, because STVV is led by Marieke Höfte, the wife of Standard owner Roland Duchâtelet. If both clubs are next season in the Jupiler Pro League, there must be no conflicts of interest.
The Licensing Commission will examine the interpretation of Sint-Truiden and then formulate a final assessment. When that will be announced is not yet known.
If the Licensing Commission shows STVV a red light, the club can continue to the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport (BAS).

STVV shouldn't be allowed up. RD should have to sell them or Standard. Surely the Belgian FA don't genuinely believe STVV aren't owned by him?0

18/08 Roland Duchâtelet sells shares STVV to girlfriend
Marieke Höfte buys the shares of the football club Sint-Truiden from her partner, Roland Duchâtelet. Duchâtelet remains chairman, but loses his majority share in the club.
"According to the new municipal decree, it is not possible for someone who is part of a municipality enters into contracts with the relevant city or town" says Roland Duchâtelet.
"This prohibition also applies to family members of council members and companies in which he or she is a major shareholder. I was so far the first councillor of the city and main shareholder in NV STVV, meaning the city could make no more contracts [possibly agreements] with STVV. "
Roland Duchâtelet means that he either had to resign from his urban functions, or had to sell NV STVV. "Not easy, but I have found a solution. I am selling my shares in STVV to my girlfriend, Marieke Höfte."
Höfte
Marieke Höfte was born in 1957 in the Dutch Sittard. She studied Moral Sciences and attended a special license Marketing. The mother of two daughters stood since 1997 at the inception of Vivant [RD's political party], where she took care of marketing. She ran for [won?] the local elections in the Antwerp district of Deurne in 2006. Höfte worked as a developer and previously in the marketing departments of Time, the -former- Alken-Maes and Cegos Makro Test.

Madame Marieke is not officially related, because she is not married to the councillor. Had that been the case, they could still divorce and the case was settled.

Interesting read, thanks. I see PP scored again, I wonder whether he will be tried back in the UK at some point? The thing that really sticks out is just how small all the attendances are of the clubs, most would not look out of place in League2 in the UK which makes the network thing really difficult to work out from my part. , and particularly @GlassHalfFull' s wonderful letter? Andreas at Jena has forwarded it to RD because, he said, he believes RD shares those values. That's very interesting. I'm pretty sure he isn't doing it "for the money" because there are plenty of easier ways for him to make money than this. Think of all the flying around and all the emails. And the heartbreaking results. At the age of 68... But he needs the financial results to prove his point. But what is his point? And who is he making it to?
I'll be writing an article on Jena for the Trust in the next days. It will be quite positive, although what it means for Charlton is less clear to me right now.

The more I think about last weekend the more convinced I become that many of these tiresome mysteries we can already begin to solve.
That's not because of any startling revelations on the part of the great guys at FCC - they were very correct and discreet in the way they conducted themselves. As I mentioned on the other thread, though, whilst so much is available on the internet there is nothing better than going some place and seeing things first hand for yourself, or indeed making yourself known.
The Jena folk I guess are as knowledgeable as any about English football, but after 15 months of Networkship we remain just a vague name. One old boy follows Leeds, chiefly, as far as I could make out, because the two clubs sport the same colours of blue, yellow and white. A "West Ham" fan was surprised when I made a pretend spit on hearing the name, and wanted to know all about it.
If my now great friend PA writes something for the Trust, without any discussion I will put my own thoughts up on CL and we can see what our independently-drawn conclusions are. One thing I am already sure of, however, and that is that overall both of us felt reasonably positive about our visit in Charlton terms, and absolutely delighted about the experience as fans.

I am still hoping to get to an Alcorcón game this season and to have a chat with the fans. The problem is that their home games always seem to kick off at 9pm on Sunday and it is about an hour away from central Madrid.
If and when I do make it I will be sure to report back!
It is true that the crowds are very low for the level but a lot of that is due to the fact that virtually every game is on free television, as well as the unsociable time. RD and the club must be pulling in quite a bit of TV money. Other than that, it is hard to see what his goals are with Alcorcón. Realistically they are not going to get to La Liga, although they have twice got to the playoff semi-finals in recent years.0 -
Do you happen to know much about the TV deal, how it works? I understood that one big problem in Spain is that there is no collective negotiation, each club has to fend for itself, which is bonkers. Is it really so that most or all games in the second division are live? The individual negotiation for TV coverage situation that results in Real Madrid and Barcelona getting a ridiculously improportionate deal is only for La Liga on Canal Plus. Segunda Liga games are on free TV, with a game on La Sexta (basically like Channel 5) on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon and a 9 pm Sunday game on Teledeporte. I am not sure if Teledeporte are a national channel or just for the Madrid region as they have Alcorcón on at least every other week and that is of minimal interest to the rest of the country.
I read before that the reason that Alcorcón are always the Sunday night game is because they are the cheapest for the TV channel. It is quite nice to watch them on TV on Sunday nights but the fans are either annoyed about it as it lowers the attendance or deciding to stay at home in front of the box themselves.1 -
