One wag was on this site not so long ago stating that Jackson was better than Buyens and Bulot combined - just take a look at the Bulot thread. I think the premise was that he didn't appreciate Liege loans and basically thought our 12 match winless run was down to a lack of Charlton spirit.

I think there have been plenty of doubters, particularly as our form dropped off a cliff. I can understand this on one level because this is virtually a brand new squad, fans are fickle. And we care deeply about the season outcome.

But when you contrast this season to last then I think it's fair to say we are in much better shape, especially in midfield where September 2013 might have seen Pritchard, Gower, Hughes and Harriott as opposed to Gudmundsson, Buyens, Cousins and Bulot.

Personally I think Buyens and Bulot are two of our top players and that Peeters was the problem playing Solly centre mid and Cousins out left ffs.

We don't know if Buyens and Bulot will return in 2015-16 but I hope they do or are replaced with players at least as good.

"Buyens bashing"? Where's that? I don't think anyone is saying he's a poor player, it's just that some don't rate him as high as others.

Not necessarily you Scoham, but there's a few on here that would still find ways to moan about everything associated to him, even if he scored 4 goals, whilst saving a kid from drowning and fetching a kitten from being stuck in a tree, before ripping off his shirt to show off a 2 foot charlton tattoo on his chest, and then let us all have a go on his lady in the centre circle.

Just annoys me as they are usually the same people that will blow smoke up another players arse just because he is homegrown, or because he once cut his head in an aerial challenge
Sam, some Charlton lifers will still only give Buyens 5.5 !

I just read somewhere he's seriously thinking about signing for us next year, and though I would'nt have believed it in january, I hope he does.

Yoni Buyens or Bradley Pritchard ?
Buyens is a player we should tie up on a permanent deal. The signings and loans have been significantly better than the dross we had last season. No offence to Bradley Pritchard. Nice guy but never had the edge that yoni has.

Why single out Pritchard? Obviously didn't have the quality for this league but did well for us in L1

I'd take Pritchard's attitude and commitment and apply it to Buyens.

I was only using Pritchard as an example of the calibre of player we once had. I did say that no offence was meant.

    Irrelevant 'comparison' IMO

    Ronaldo or Kieron Richardson ?

It's a shame yoni is suspended for smallwall. Hate to say this but has our upturn in form coincided with Jacko's injury.

Not because you're 5 days late with news though, only for the negative Jacko comment :)

Pritch fell apart last season but before that he was our top assist-maker in the Championship

Can we sign this bloke please. He's different class.
  • First season in England, still young and can only improve. We'll miss him big time if he leaves. Don't know the stats but we seem to gain more points when he plays.

Someone posted our record with and without Buyens somewhere on the forum recently.

It was pretty conclusive that we do much much better when he plays.
  • Did I see him give a little clap to the west stand fans at one point in today's game? Think he may be starting to like it here.

Yup. Pivotal to next season IMHO. Different players but effective in a Keith Jones kinda way. And we know what happened in 1998 when he played....

That was me on the previous page of this thread and on another thread updated after missing the Millwall and Fulham games.

    In short when Buyens hasn't played we have Played 6 - Won 0 - Drawn 2 - Lost 4

There you have it! Got to be worth offering a 4 year contract, isn't it?
