Except Buyens isn't worth anything financially to Charlton as he belongs to Standard Liege.
If he scores 20 goals from mid-field, adds thousands to the gate and helps us gain promotion then financially he's worth a shed load to the club. Forget zero value on the balance sheet - his worth would be his contribution to the success of the club.

True (if unlikely given the factors that influence attendances in the real world), but that just shows what a load of drivel an argument based on notional website valuations of players is.
It will be interesting to compare our starting line up in August with the squad who played the last few games under Riga. I don't know how accurate transfermarkt is but if we sign Buyens and Vetokele then it appears that the value of our first XI has just increased from £8M to nearly £9M and that includes the departure of Sordell, Ajdarevic, Dervite and Hamer valued at £3.3M between them. I believe Transfermarkt does a revaluation at some point in July so let's see what happens to the value of the network players who have now played at Liege and SE7. And also to the young players who made such a major contribution last season.
Last season's midfield were all valued around 4-600k so if we are now bringing in players rated 2m+ then this has to be a big step up even if there is a margin of error of say 20%. He was signed for £1.3M three years ago. We know with Thuram there was a horrible mis-calibration but I think the valuations of the other network players was accurate or perhaps just a tad high when compared to our championship squad. Where I'm going with this is that before a ball is kicked next season we will be able to see what the total squad valuation adds up to... and compare it to the whole division. £20M+ is what is needed for a challenge for the play-offs... £15M+ would be a step in the right direction.
Personally, I had hoped for a few £1-1.5M players on loan (like Sordell) so for a player who was valued at €3M just 12 months ago to sign up is way above my expectations. More of the same please and then improving on last season's 18th is not such a big ask after all.
On the overall size of squad I don't think many fans believe we need to carry 40 odd players like we have been for the last couple of seasons. Looks like a typical Championship squad has about 26 or 27 players. So perhaps we only need a few more signings if Morrison, Poyet and Gomez all sign up. The link with Liege and the other network clubs not only speeds up player movement but also provides an insurance for emergency loans so we don't need to keep so many players on the books in case of injury or loss of form.
This time last year the club was up for sale and one of the main selling points according to the then owners was that so many players were out of contract thus enabling new owners to start afresh. 12 months on we have new owners, the overwheming majority of the 20 odd players on the books are 22 and under, and signed up for two or three years. What matters now is who is added to this squad and the likes of Buyens, Vetokele signing up plus rumours of others is really refreshing.
Who knows - if they get some more names in and we have a decent squad by mid July then perhaps they can have another crack at marketing season tickets to lapsed fans? At £250 a throw for the cheapest seats available I would hope to see quite a few fans signing up.

That's not the point though. It's to provide some sort of benchmark to compare the standard (if I can use that word) of players by giving them a financial value. It matters not how much he's worth to Charlton financially - only to Roland - but what his contribution is on the field. (It's pretty much the same as those mpg and 0-60 figures they provide for cars. No one believes them or achieves them but it does provide a level playing field to compare different models.)

Pritchard is listed as £440k and Church as £660k. Even Hughes is £132k.

It would be great if you could be a bit more concise and brief.

A bit harsh.
Not meant to be harsh. It is a fair point to make though. It is also appears to be many points in one. SR is entitled to their say, and would be happy to read it. Not having a go at whatever is they have to say, though I 'm sure a few things are smuggled into a piece that long. A summary or something but preferably better shorter contributions.
I have been working all day, and am too tired to read contributions that length.
I just don't know why all these contributions have to be so long.
The main number I'm interested in is the half dozen (possibly more) or so that can cut it in this league* that are currently not on our books, and a manager who will not know all his players well let alone them know each other. Of course CP and Varney did it in our League 1 winning season but neither of them are at the club, and most worrying is that we seem not to be able to sign those players*.
By all means bring in some experiments, over and above that and I am all in favour of value, but not at the expense of establishing a team. I am also hugely in favour of youth and retaining them but we must not over rely on them.
I don't think its panic stations yet, and whether you like the network or not it could help plug the gaps if needed.
Let's hope that the reason they seem to busy to have a dialogue with the fans is that they really are going hell for leather to achieve a seriously competitive side.

Too busy for dialogue my backside. Katriene whatshername had promised a meeting before the new season, that will be nice of her to find the time.
This Reams fella....how does he know so much about obscure European footballers? Genuine question.
I suspect that some of it is bullshit - and the rest -what he has heard from others - I doubt he has watched these players play enough games to form an opinion. If any games at all! He can't possibly watch that much football unless he is a scout or an agent.

Good luck with that but you won't hear me making judgement on players i have never seen play let alone never heard of. That's your man's department.

Calls himself a box-to-box player, so may play alongside (hopefully) Poyet or Cousins, rather than replace them.
