A shame it coincides with the Lord's Test, as I might have gone tomorrow

Talking about Kent and Essex, Seb played in the U12 match between the sides on Sunday. Out for four and one over of leg spin for nine is hardly much to write home about. His punishment for those failures? The gloves and the captaincy for this Sunday's game against Sussex!

In the game itself we scored 138 off our 40 overs and Essex got them for two wickets. That doesn't tell the full story though as one of their openers was dropped by one of our other keepers without scoring. And he went on to make 90 not out.

As they say - it's all a learning curve.

    Pesky Essex !!!!

How much does the captain decide things at that level AA ?
Will he have control of the bowling or is it a coach on the sidelines?
Sorry bum info. Memory failing me. We actually beat Essex by 3 runs in the first game (Sunday before last) and lost by 8 wickets to Middlesex this Sunday.

He's given guidelines with regards to bowling changes before the game and during drinks breaks. No coaching is allowed whatsoever during the game itself and the paid umpires are there to ensure that is the case so all field placings are down to the skipper.

The real difficulty at this level is that the vast majority of them bat and bowl. All bar one of the 14 "man" squad could bat in the top four and the same number bowl too so sharing things about is a real headache. Which is why Seb kept and batted at 10 (didn't get in) in the first game against Essex but batted at 4 and bowled just the one over in the Middlesex match.
Just got back from a wet Canterbury and a victory for Kent. Having restricted Sussex to 147-6, the boys reached the winning total with 3 overs to spare and with 7 wickets in hand.

Seb didn't bat or bowl but kept and has a 100% record as skipper and I've told him to quit 'cos it can only go downhill from here!

Game looks nicely set up! Hope for a good second day! Shame it's not at Canterbury as I'd be there every day as my exams are over...

Let's hope Surrey can build a big lead!!

Beset by injuries in the last few years, Thomas is still only 23 and fast becoming a potential asset to out pace bowling department. His figures in the CC this season (in chronological order):

    1-36, 1-37
    1-75, 0-8
    3-40, 1-55
    2-22, 4-53
    1-11

    That's 14 wickets at 24 apiece.

When we add the return of Coles, it means we, effectively have two new fast bowlers that will trouble batsmen at this level.

The light was fine in the bar, that's all I can say.

Some good tight bowling from Kent today. Stevens still defying his age.

From 170-7 to 292-9 so Surrey now have a 10 run lead.

£20 advance, I think this afternoon is the latest at that price.

Might go, a bit concerned about the weather
