A proportionate protest - Charlton v Ipswich *Stand Up For The 2%*

Was nice bumping into Katrien with her earphones in though and handing her a leaflet.
Thought she would have been down there earlier than 70mins before KO though....11 -

Me, Dave Storry and RedMidland watched a game the season before last and took the average age up to 117. ;(AFKABartram said:Made the point of trying to be friendly and courteous giving out leaflets and explaining. Still got a couple of 'f*** off' and 'f*** your protests' which I suspect is easy directing at me but would have been entertaining directing to someone like @Cardinal Sin.
Best retort I got was 'no thank you. I know about football and you don't'.
98% were supportive though.
Really is alarming watching the crowd filter through for 90 mins realising just how old our support is (no offence to anyone).
Personally I feel the club is dying on its arse and that the very small level of U30s we have going will continue to drift away. Once the older numbers go, we won't be replacing in anywhere near the same numbers.

I went for a gentleman's comfort break in Bartrams at 10.30 and the security were all giving the vibrating wand to the Ipswich guests and directors at the main entrance.
I don't know who was there to welcome them, but it wasn't Katrien because she arrived for work today at 11.07, and probably didn't even get started until 11.20 after she'd had the vibrating wand treatment too.4 -

@TCE yes but most of that age belongs to @Davestorry !! LOL2

Think some people are forgetting the number of our fans that are neither against or in support of our ownership. They go to football on a Saturday afternoon and once it's done, don't think about Charlton until the next time they play. They don't post online or talk about CAFC on social media. It's summed up in our away numbers. Since the Prem years it's always seemed to me that a fair percentage of our support is made up of people who come to the Valley cos it's just 'something to do'.7

Not sure how it was portrayed on sky as I was at the ground but it did go pretty much as I expected.
A lot more than 2% held up a banner though so hopefully she got the message although the vast majority seemed to be north upper so doubt it was seen on tv.
I would say less than 2% sang the song though...

Well done to everybody, especially Joe. A lot to be proud about.4

Well done to those who had the MEIRE OUT banner in the East Stand.5

The protests are still in their 'spreading the word' stage so a boycott will not meet that aim. After the protest today the guy in front of me turned and asked what it was about. He now knows but had I boycotted the match he most likely would not. Once the word has spread sufficiently then a boycott MAY work.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:
Precisely ,....and how better a message than boycott? KM will be on the blower later "Yeah a fair few held up some posters in the second minute but still cheered the team on and clapped them off so Operation clusterfuck is still well on track my dear leader as the mugs will still turn up next game."razil said:Dont agree, message needs to reach Roland
A few tame protests will make fuck all difference to Roland....a bloke who won't even afford fans the courtesy of attending to see his experiment going pear shaped. Liege fans stormed his office and it didn't make a jot of difference.
Dialogue via the Trust and tame protests will not make any difference. If you are genuinely unhappy with the strategy and running of the club then boycott home games.... nothing else with have any meaningful impact and we'll continue to slide.10 -

I didn't top it but got Dave Berry about ten minutes later3 -
Really thought the protest was good today, haven't seen it on sky yet but will watch the first couple of minutes later.
Very Charlton, peaceful, well organised and effective, maybe the CEO could learn something from the fans!
Well done to all those involved, clearly showed more people in the ground support it than are against it, let alone all those who have clearly turned their back on this set up already.6 -
Yes, she certainly cannot make the excuse that she felt 'threatened' this time.Hartleypete said:Really thought the protest was good today, haven't seen it on sky yet but will watch the first couple of minutes later.

And the 2% figure has been truly exposed ...add all the stay-aways and its probably more like 40%.5 -

After finishing work at 7 this am and having 3 hours kip I was concerned this could be a damp squib. Especially after walking down Harvey Gardens and watching people ignore ladies and gentlemen handing out the protest papers.
However that was fantastic to see (from the lower west) the upper north, lower north and east stand as one standing up for what they believe in.
Sky apparently mentioned this and the CEO was shown on camera. Job done and same again for the Leeds game.7 -
All that energy, all that enthusiasm, all those skills, all the unpaid commitment.
Wouldn't it be great if the CEO could utilise it all, if she'd work with those fans, really work with them, not pay lip service to the idea.
What an asset that would be to the club.
Your choice Katrien. Swallow your pride and accept some help.29 -
Not a chance Henry, she's too arrogant and believes she knows better than us.15

They're fans and they pay their money and that's their opinion. Bear in mind they were happy after 2 good wins and the positive signing of Vaz Te. They probably thought we had turned the corner.Lazy_eye_metaphor said:

Saw the protest on Sky, the cameras showed some of the fans holding up the 2% posters, then they panned to KM in Directors box who looked completely unfazed by it all, I even thought she has a smirk on her face, but cant be sure. Well done to all who took part, but with this bunch it seems like water off a ducks back!!0
-
I don't think she does.stonemuse said:Not a chance Henry, she's too arrogant and believes she knows better than us.
She's just unwilling to admit that she needs help.
"Imposter syndrome" is common in new managers and in particular female managers.
She needs help but she feels that admitting that would show weakness. In fact, it would be the opposite.3 -
Waste of ink for me , the current regime honestly couldn't give a shit what us the fans think , arrogant non football people .2

None of us can help with the basic gap which is knowledge of professional football. For that Charlton need a new owner, a new CEO, a new manager and some experienced players.Henry Irving said:All that energy, all that enthusiasm, all those skills, all the unpaid commitment.

No, you're wrong. Quite a few fans know about running a football club and one club in particular.kentred2 said:

We urgently need a leader on the pitch.2

Really? So Target 10,000 (the original not the sequel) Valley Express remind who ran with those ideas?kentred2 said:

Wait, is the aim of this protest to get the club to employ(re-employ in some cases) certain fans in high up positions?Henry Irving said:

When handing out leaflets today I was surprised by how many fans asked what it's all about. I was surprised how many did not know. If nothing else, today's protest will have got the message out to the masses.Hex said:
