++++ Official manager rumours thread! ++++ (ed. Slade confirmed)

Cannot believe people are going have a hissy fit if we appoint Slade. We've been served up cheap crap foreign managers one after the other who have no idea of the English league. We have been begging and crying out for someone with the relevant experience needed to do the job and I don't think anyone can argue Slade has that?
I mean a serious question to those questioning the potential appointment, really who are you expecting us get who's better!???10 -
I would be happy with Slade in the way I feel he would be a safe choice and knows what is needed in this league, not sure if he will take us forward but he will do enough to prevent us dropping any further.
I hope!3 -
It doesn't matter what manager we appoint, unless RD and KM get out of our club. If they remain, they will fiddle and interfere, and whatever a new man tries to do will be undermined. I don't want Charlton to fail, but if getting Nobby Vinegar and another six months of poor results means that RD will bog off and we get a new owner in, then that will be fine by me. What we as fans cannot do is support this regime, even if Ryan Giggs comes in and we win our first ten games.5

I wouldn't do somersaults over having slade appointed but he is by no means the worse person to have. In recent years I've only really been excited about Powell taking over just because of his passion for the club.
I don't think any manager being mentioned would get me excited. But as long as they don't make me angry such as nobby vinegar then that's fine2 -
I'm not sure that's actually a secret or that you need to be expert to form that opinion! Of course, if the squad that got you relegated is utterly and completely hopeless (Villa) rather than just a bit crap (Newcastle) then a wholesale clear out might just be the only option.Redrobo said:
I forget who the football expert was that was being asked about clubs being relegated from the Premier League, but he said that the secret was to keep as much of your squad as possible. I think he is right. Let's hope Lenny told him the same.

Wasn't excited by Slade until I spoke to some Orient supporters. Appears they seem him as their Chris Powell. He is very highly rated at Brisbane Rd.2

It is now exactly a calendar month since Riga resigned, Happy Anniversary everybody.6

So where are we on all this? Ourselves Bolton and Forest, basket-case clubs in one way or another, are still to appoint someone, are we all waiting for Slade to come back on holiday, or is it just us? And what about Dough-boy Evans, is he out of the running? I'm confused.0

Hahaha, just decided to skip the last 270 posts to see this.HarryLime said:So where are we on all this? But I really think that success in getting back to the Championship will actually improve the chances of our excuse of a director to sell-up.Pedro45 said:It doesn't matter what manager we appoint, unless RD and KM get out of our club. There is a saying that "Beggars can't be Choosers"
It would appear that Wilder and probably other possible managers have already turned us down, and therefore it it appears that no decent managers are prepared to work for Roland and Squirrel face.
Where does that leave Charlton, well it leaves us in the shit!
If Russell Slade is prepared to come here I say yes please, because make no mistake who else is there likely to be?
Unless Roland has something up his sleeve Russell Slade is probably the Best of a Bad Bunch. At least he is English and knows League 1.1 -
In our current situation I actually think Slade would be a very good appointment. I'm really not sure why people think he's just best of a bad bunch. The fact is. Charlton are a league one club. Russell Slade is very much our standard.
Exactly who were we expecting to get ?
Giggs ? Ffs. Don't make me laugh.8 -
At least someone with something to prove. The Bristol Rovers guy or our youth coach and Jackson. Something more inspiring and quite frankly, more Charlton, than Russell bloody Slade.3
-
give it to Simon Clark - backed him to the tune of twenty english pounds at 28/1
give me something you belgian home wreckers!!!!!4 -

Will be interesting to see what shit Daisy comes out with when announcing him - "wanted him all along ... just the man ... hugely respected ... really gets what we are trying to do ...". In other words, the only man who needed a job and agreed to Roland's terms. Suspect the line of questioning from any remaining media who actually bother to turn up will centre on his autonomy to make decisions and what the hell he has joined.
Grossly unfair as it is, I am not going to get behind anyone who agrees to work for this dysfunctional regime on their terms.1 -
So appoint someone with no experience. A punt as they say. Completely what this forum has been railing against for months.Valley11 said:At least someone with something to prove. Can you point out why " The Bristol Rovers guy" is more Charlton than Slade ?

There is no evidence to suggest that the Bristol R manager, who has never managed in League 1 or The Championship, nor Simon Clark & Johnnie Jackson who have never managed in the football league, would be a better appointment than Slade, who has 10 years experience.Valley11 said:At least someone with something to prove. Slade may not have a dynamic personality, but nor does Alan Curbishley, so what.
Luzon was "quite dynamic" leaping around the touchline like a demented fool.
Slade is safe, more experienced and more likely to succeed than your suggestions.
However, the truth is NO ONE knows, who will be a success, not even the club or the man himself.
Sometimes a manager can have great success at one club and none at another club for no apparent reason.
Let's give the guy a chance.
Our bigger gripes about the owner are that he won't appoint a manager with experience and competence of League 1 and The Championship and now he may well be doing so.
Our other big gripe is about the player recruitment strategy. Let's see what develops.
Ok I'm not at all confident, but let's see.17 -
There is no reason for anyone with proper ambition to come to Charlton though. Next season, for the first time since the Belgians arrived, the ambitions of supporters and the ambitions of the board will be roughly aligned (putting aside our overriding ambition for them to sod off). The supporters want Charlton to get promoted, and Roland wants us to get promoted because even he recognises that his ridiculous plan won't work in League 1.Valley11 said:At least someone with something to prove. If and when we get back to the Championship, Roland's ambition reverts to finishing above 21st on a ridiculously low budget. Even if you can find someone who's willing to put up with interference in team selection and not having the final say on transfers, how do you sell the vision of aspiring to treadwater to anyone with ambitions above and beyond just receiving a salary?2 -

I'd be very happy with Slade. Knows L1 well, has experience of the Championship too, plenty of experience and contacts.
Having said that, if this drags out for a few more weeks, I'll be happy with anyone (other than Karel Fraye obviously)0 -
I just want someone who will keep us somewhat stable in League 1 whilst we wait for Roland to realize he is never getting us back to the Championship so might as well sell up for what he can get before he starts throwing the best part of 10 million down the drain each season.
Slade will do that and when a proper owner comes it, then we can get back to having actual ambitions and wanting to be excited by a managerial appointment.2 -
You know what sky are like - they love to add a bit of drama. However break some news about a bit of forthcoming breaking news is stooping to a new level.Lazy_eye_metaphor said:

I just wish they would get a shift on and appoint somebody.2

Is it because it's a "safe" appointment and one that doesn't exactly inspire. I can get that but under the current circumstances I will happily take it.The Red Robin said:
