We all know that had England replaced either team last night we'd still have lost on pens before sudden death4

This will be Germany's sixth Semi Final in a row at major tournaments.
Incredible really.
They expect to reach semi finals at a minimum, we put out the bunting and have street parties if we reach a quarter final.0 -
The four players that missed pens last night, all played in the premiership last season. So the English penalty shoot out success is spreading.0

I watched this in the old Olympic football stadium in Munich alongside 20 or so thousand Germans.
What a stadium that is and the Germans know how to celebrate.0 -

there were 7 missed pens2 -
The Italians looked like they were playing for penalties from the start. Glad Germany won.1StevieG said:
I was quite happy to see Germany go through only because of all the gamesmanship crap the Italians get up to. Play the game you might win it.lordromford said:I watched this as a genuine neutral and really didn't mind who won.
Maybe because of this, I noticed just how dejected the pundits sounded at the result. I would understand this if the game involved England or one of the other home nations. Even Republic of Ireland is understandable. But why the assumption that we all want Germany to lose? I know there's history, but aren't we past that now? And surely the broadcasters have a duty to be neutral?
I guess it doesn't matter that much, but it did irritate me.0 -
No goals yet between France and Germany, but a really good start to the match and a great atmosphere1

Germany are so good0

What a game so far. Some amazing stuff from both teams and still 0-0 and not that many chances.0

Portugal must be shitting it a little. Mind you, they're doing to this tournament what Greece did to their own glorious parade back in 20040
-
Germany pass the ball with purpose all the time. So much better to watch than someone like Spain.3
-
Portugal would surely prefer a France win. Yes they'd have home advantage but at least their defence can be got at, i can't really see any weak links in the German side0
-
Germany play like England should. They're not direct, as on long ball, but they are direct as in, they just want to get on the front foot and into the attacking third as quickly as possible.ValleyGary said:Germany pass the ball with purpose all the time. A top manager like Mournho or Pep G would have sorted this out by now. Deschamp has not changed anything yet to try and deal with this.0
-
After initial pressure from France the Germans are now keeping France in their own half.0
-
France started well but now they can't get the ball.0

Germany are by far the best team in this tournament.0

Either of these two should easy turn Portugal over.Leuth said:Portugal must be shitting it a little. Mind you, they're doing to this tournament what Greece did to their own glorious parade back in 2004

Can't believe the time and space the French are letting the man with the ball have.0

Penalty? Really?0

Hmmm. Not for me that one.0

Saw the handball straight away.0

Undeserved lead. Not a pen.0

Germany starting to get a rep for giving away penalties.0
-
If that penalty decides the match, expect Mrs Merkel to lead Germany out of the EU as well!0

I reckon it was the right decision. Schweinsteiger can't complain, he can't go throwing his hands up near the opponent's head like that.0
