Tony Watt returns (a wishful thinking thread)

He gone back on to twitter which I initially thought was a bad idea as it proved a distraction last time and didnt help him settle.
It appears he has someone helping him so no silly stuff this time I hope.1 -

Maybe he's got worse? He's an attacking player - where's the end product in terms of goals and assists? He should be a big threat in this league.FishCostaFortune said:

Oh but he is, and you drag up one random goal he's scored, so I done likewise for similarly shit Charlton players. He's rubbish, he can't pass the ball, isn't quick enough to beat players regularly, hasn't not a rocket shot, can't head the ball and is incredibly unfitFishCostaFortune said:

Indeed, I do not dispute either of these points, however he is still not 'shite' at football. Football fans as a whole seem to have a very black and white view of things. If a player under performs, or if he is simply not good enough to play in the league he is in, he is automatically labelled as 'shite'. If anyone genuinely thinks Tony Watt is 'shite' at football, literally meaning 'worthless or rubbish', then I would like to know how they would describe me playing football down Eltham goals on a Thursday (and I think I'm above average).FishCostaFortune said:wmcf123 said:

Tony Watt is clearly a talented football player, whose potential sadly is (and it may never be) unfulfilled.
Yep, because someone who is 'shite' at football could not do that.sam3110 said:

Watt is, undoubtedly, capable of the odd moment of brilliance. But those moments are so rare that he ends up becoming a liability.FishCostaFortune said:

At the end of the day the stats don't lie - 13 goals in 83 appearances for us, Cardiff, Blackburn and Hearts is bad enough but to only have scored once and had no assists in 24 games this season is positively awful for a player who is, allegedly, a creative forward.
Talent is a fantastic asset. Misused talent is a complete and utter waste. And I'm afraid that is what Watt has become - a waste of space.2 -
Set up 2 guilt edge chances last night. We should have scored both. Just saying.3

Why Holmes didnt shoot first time from the Watt lay back I really dont know.1989cafc said:Set up 2 guilt edge chances last night. We should have scored both. Just saying.
Instead he appeared to deliberately try and get a penalty.0 -
Holmes is in the centre of goal - all he needs to do is shoot.Henry Irving said:

Magennis is let down by his touch, one on one with keeper.
In my opinion they are guilt edged. We should be scoring them.2 -
Seen this said a few times, but I thought it was he was SENT back because Hearts didn't want him anymore?sam3110 said:

That pass to Magennis was ridiculously good.4

Hearts but you're right. Hearts didn't want him, Charlton didn't have a choice over Watt and I doubt Vetokele was keen to return either.AFKABartram said:

Not wanted in the SPL- a league in which Church got goals. I've absolutely no time for Watt- it's been 2 years since he put in a useful performance for usHenry Irving said:

I've seen most of Watt's appearances this season. He's better than Ajose for sure.
He needs to play nearer the opponents' goal, which sums up Charlton generally I suppose.
His turns and tricks tend to happen near the touchline/half way line where they're fairly pointless.
I don't know what he's like behind the scenes, but on the pitch he always seems to be trying to me.
But if he's a disruptive influence, it's best that we move him on asap.
Team spirit!0 -
I know he hasn't set the world alight since getting back, but to suggest he can't beat players regularly is way off the mark IMO.sam3110 said:

When it comes to dribbling and having a deceptive pace, he is up there with one of the best we've had in a long time.0 -
He seems to have changed his game since he first came to us. He now likes to come much deeper rather than play further up. And he's on a goal drought which affecting his confidence, whether he knows it or not.1

Some of the comments during Robinson's post-match rant last night seemed to be aimed at Watt. Has there been yet another falling out?0

More than likely.mogodon said:Some of the comments during Robinson's post-match rant last night seemed to be aimed at Watt. Has there been yet another falling out?
Someone posted on here at the weekend saying that KR was trying to talk to Watt on the bench before he went on and Watt was pretty much ignoring him. Great decision to get rid of Ajose!0 -
I hope it was him and he told KR where to stick it. I also hope every single one of those players who played last night have heard his awful post match statements and want an explanation from their manager on why he thinks it's appropriate to throw them under the bus to cover his own arse4

I'm 100% confident if he keeps his head down and focuses on the path he's on, keeps applying himself, he could be a labourer on a Glaswegian building site in a couple of years telling all his fellow (non eu) workers he used to be a footballer9

Its about time someone dug them out, sick of them being sugar coated.3 -
In Watt's case his reputation stands before him which is why no one is banging down the door to take him. In the last three seasons he has played exactly 100 games and scored just 15 times but, as if that isn't bad enough, only one of those has come in his 26 appearances this season with not a single assist. Most goalkeepers create more than than that.charlton_carl said:I hope it was him and he told KR where to stick it. To date, I would estimate that Watt has had at least 15 managers in his career, none of which have managed to get any semblance of consistency out of him - but plenty have openly criticised his attitude.
As I've said before a team can accommodate a maverick like him such as a Le Tissier but those individuals not only have to demonstrate that they have "it" but that they want it enough too. Watt is too comfortable with his failings and the lifestyle that a Champions League goal afforded him. A goal that probably has done him, ultimately, more harm than good.1
