Brilliant. Thank you very much!Addick in SW16 said:
Okay, I 'll continue to collect album names on here and will develop a knock out competition. I was determined that my geeky side wouldn't come out, but it's too late now.Stig said:
I like your idea Addick in SW16. I'm just thinking we could play this like a knock out competition where albums are drawn against each other until there is only one left.Addick in SW16 said:I just love the music threads and am still yet to whittle my favourite songs down in order to contribute to the desert island discs thread.
But what are your favourite music albums? I was thinking that we could all vote for our top five music albums and after a while I could present the results if we have enough and there are multiple votes for the same records.
I think the rules should be that if more than five are listed by one voter, the top five will be counted and no greatest hits compilations.
Over to anyone else who wants to vote while I think over what mine are...0 -

What a question. I have three all-time favourites, and then cannot narrow it down for the life of me. I'm limiting mentions of bands in the post to one album per band, despite the fact that with several of these artists (Miles/Zep/PF/Bill Evans/Beatles etc) there would be more than one record to consider...
1) Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
2) IV - Led Zeppelin
3) Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
then, currently:
4) The Complete Live at the Village Vanguard - Bill Evans
5) Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
----------------
Honourable mentions:
6) Grace - Jeff Buckley
7) Is This It - The Strokes
8) Illmatic - Nas
9) What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
10) Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
11) Sgt Pepper's - The Beatles
12) Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
13) A Love Supreme - John Coltrane
14) Family Dinner Volume One - Snarky Puppy1 - Sponsored links:

Dang, didn't realise the best of would be enforced so strongly! Though, in the case of 20 Golden Greats, it's an album of my parent's that I grew up listening to, and it's really cohesive as a record (see also: Bob Marley Legend). I've not listened to that many beach boys albums all the way through.
Looks like I'll have to pick a Hendrix record... I'll go for Axis Bold As Love. The other two experience albums have better songs, but this is the better overall record I reckon.0 -

I liked them in about '73, but I think their music didn't age very well. Just a personal opinion, mind. I'll have a listen on Spotify....robinofottershaw said:None of you oldies went for Argus, one of the best guitar albums ever. No fellow Wishbone Ash fans on here?

Personally I prefer live albums to studio albums, the work tends to be more authentic and contains more soul.
I agree that 5 is very difficult but after much consideration, and in no particular order.
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Live at Montreux 1985 - The greatest live guitar playing ever and of what it represented.
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - just a brilliant album, off its time, and the grandaddy of punk albums.
Status Quo - Live Glasgow Apollo 1977 - the best live album by any rock band, by a country mile.
The Stones - Exile on Main Street - The best album by the greatest rock n roll band ever, the album equivalent of The Shawshank Redemption.
Eric Clapton - EC was Here - again another live album, but just listen to it, EC is a bit off his nut, but shitting hell its top draw ;o)2 -
