The Takeover Thread - Duchatelet Finally Sells (Jan 2020)

This takeover is a big worry now. If prospective buyers are being put off by the high monthly running costs and expect to get those down by refusing academy players toast and water, not turning on lights and other literally penny pinching savings then how on earth are they expecting to progress the club. What savings can be made that seriously put a dent in £10million a month. Certainly none of the above. Getting fans back through the doors and spending again will help but hardly significantly on the £10 million figure. The only area of significance in cost saving is on playing staff. I want Duchatelet out and as far as possible from our club but unless what we’re hearing is club spin it seems to me there is a lot more woe to come. Hope I’m wrong.1

Looking forward to finding out if the cost cutting as described in Shooties post, is down to the Aussies.ShootersHillGuru said:This takeover is a big worry now. I doubt that to be honest and the real point I was trying to make is that IF the ongoing monthly cost is such a concern as to put off potential buyers what scope is there to really save on that £10 million figure. Airman would be best placed to know but I fail to see where significant savings can be made without affecting the quality of the playing staff.i_b_b_o_r_g said:

A Saudi Prince was in town a couple of weeks ago, His Team played a Fulham side at their Training ground. Supposedly knew his football, just saying.0

You hear of fan buyouts! Is there actually a way of doing that?
I haven’t got 8k but I’d put in if there was any sort of chance of taking this into our own hands.LenGlover said:

There are clubs where the Trust owns shares and assists in the management of the club. Swansea on their way up to the Premiership are an example although it all fell apart in the Prem I believe.
@PragueAddick has researched this previously if memory serves me right and posted about it.
Does anyone know some like Varney who could organise something like this.
I’m not connected to the club other than being a desperate fan.
We managed to get the Valley party together! Could this be any sort of possible answer!
Aussies in collaboration with the fans etc2 -
Could we be their investor? I don’t know!!CafcSCP said:You hear of fan buyouts! Is there actually a way of doing that?

I think too many people got their fingers burnt with the previous share issue which didn't end well when the company was taken back to private status from public and the ordinary shareholders lost their money.CafcSCP said:You hear of fan buyouts! Is there actually a way of doing that?

We will all have our own opinions but I'd doubt much truth exists in the Duche statement to employees.
Cutting down running costs to make the club more attractive to investors - any invester will do their research and know a false economy is being created. Staff who leave will need to be replaced eventually. Not paying staff bonus, if they decide to work base hours only then services will suffer further etc.
We have a premier league stadium and infrastructure in league one! That's why he is losing so much. He is basically trying to spend the minimum until the club is sold. PR guy is attempting to cloud the issues.8 -
I would not be interested in a share, but if Charlton Supporters Trust or similar could become a genuine member of a consortium with the same deal, I would probably lump in.RedChaser said:

In reality the stake we'd hold would be tiny, as it was after the share issues in the 90s.Redrobo said:

As said elsewhere, whoever buys us needs to have deep pockets to sustain the ongoing losses. Even if Roland had run us properly and we had stayed in the Championship, we would still have lost money, albeit less1 - Sponsored links:

So it's the load of cobbers in a race against the load of cobblers?2

I'm really sorry for lack of info from the Aussies everybody.
Not a lot I can do, and I'm not holding anything back I can assure you.
Apparently GM went back for a bit of a break, but he wouldn't have done that if it would have slowed things down.5 -
First party to submit papers get the club, sounds like a hurry up1
-
I can submit papers to the club today, they will all say "Roland you are cockwomble, do everyone a favour and sell CAFC."6

The reference to cost cutting being at the behest of the Aussies is flagrant nonsense.
If you're buying a business you really need to take a hard look at all the cost lines and people yourself and quickly work out where and how far to cut. Leaving it to the current owner means there is no interest in ensuring the right (as opposed to easiest) things are cut, and in keeping the people you want to keep, who are very often the ones most likely to walk.18 -
Nope. If it's not a house buying analogy I'm not interested.Davo55 said:The reference to cost cutting being at the behest of the Aussies is flagrant nonsense.

I genuinely don’t believe that they were ever going to purchase us at the price agreed as they did not and do not have the funding in place to follow through on the deal .carly burn said:

No offense, but who told you that? They may be right, or they may be wrong, but unless you say who told you it's hard to judge really.nth london addick said:

But yes, they may still be struggling to make up the numbers, I wouldn't know. I guess we may not look a very attractive proposition to some, investment wise, especially if you're trying to attract funding for a five year plan.
Duchâtelet won't care about that. He just wants his money back.
What a bloody mess.3 -

According to CAFC website re some sort of fans meeting, looks like its pretty much done. Two parties. Price agreed with each. First one to finish and it's theirs. Director's loans no longer an issue. No exclusivity.12
-
That's reassuring then. If it's on the official site and is info put out by the club then I can't think of any reason to doubt that it's all true.NapaAddick said:According to CAFC website re some sort of fans meeting, looks like its pretty much done. In this case, WIOTOS is also proved to be a fallacy.NapaAddick said:According to CAFC website re some sort of fans meeting, looks like its pretty much done. Two parties. Price agreed with each. First one to finish and it's theirs. Director's loans no longer an issue. No exclusivity.

My guess is he Aussies are looking for another investor. That would explain the rumours of the deal being dead and other talk that they’re still around.
Still not convinced the second party are real.
We could be weeks or months away from the deal going or falling through completely. Saying it’s just down to the Aussies to submit documents suggests it’s close but I don’t get that feeling from everything else that was said.
If it was very close there wouldn’t be much point other parties looking at the club.2 -
Any news on the nationality of this second party that’s recently come back in, don’t think it’s the mentioned British bid as they had been in for a while (if they were real in the first place)1
