Wrexham have told manager Sam Ricketts to stay away from their FA Cup game against Newport tonight as he has been heavily linked with the Shrewsbury job
Strange timing, why now? It's not as if they got a bad result on Saturday.
Good result and performance on Saturday, and they're away to Spurs on Wednesday, so it's not as if the next game is one where you'd think the lift from a new manager might make the difference.
Very odd timing but it's the right decision I think, or rather the correct acknowledgement that it was a mistake to appoint him in the first place. Can't see anyone else taking him on, a 15 year career in (mostly top-flight) club management is pretty good going considering he's rarely actually shown any aptitude for it.

I'm not convinced he's ever shown aptitude for it.
Another gravy train pay-off. He'll emerge somewhere else, although not in the Premier League.

He rescued Blackburn from relegation danger and then took them to sixth and seventh-placed Premier League finishes, reasonable achievements. After that, brief spells of mediocrity are about as good as it's got.
Ralph Hasenhuttl (ex-Leipzig boss) is set to be named as Southampton Manager
Might well be good a appointment in the style of Koeman and Pochettino for them seeing that Hasenhuttl took Leipzig into the Champions League last year - Hopefully be a blow for Crystal Palace and their hopes of finding another side worse off than them again

Signed Lookman for Leipzig as well - so maybe he will be his first signing in Jan.
It will be all about how he adjusts to English Football.
It will go 1 of 2 ways, he will do great and keep them up, or Southampton will be looking for a new manager before may.
Personally I think they will be looking for a new manager before may
He has two disadvantages going into this role too
(1) He doesnt have Ralf Rangnick to find him players, who I imagine is a lot better than the bloke Southampton have now
(2) He only has the January Transfer Window to try and get some additional bodies into the club, no doubt will mean that they'll mainly be the panic cast offs that no one else wants at that time of the year, although be curious to see if they try and get Lookman on loan as thats who he'll have played under in Germany
The one benefit is I dont think that Southampton have that bad a team - Their issue has been the same for a few years now in the fact that they need to find themselves a bloody reliable goalscorer as Shane Long and Charlie Austin arent the answer, nor is Danny Ings

Did he or was that Rangnick? - Its why I dont like the Director of Football role and am happy with how the setup is at Charlton as there is clarity and we know whose fault it is if the signing doesnt work
i.e. If Bowyer signs someone then we know its his fault because Gallen cant force him to sign someone and so he takes the blame - For a DoF they sign the player when the Manager might not even want them yet is the Manager that gets sacked rather than the DOF if everything goes tits up!!

A lot of clubs in their position would have gone with a fire fighter type manager and appoint Big Sam or Moyes Well done Southampton for having the forward thinking to go against the recycling of washed up Premier League managers and appointing someone who has potential to take the club forward.

I think we are slowly but surely finally getting rid of those types of manager.
I'm sure big Sam will be back at some point, but hopefully we have seen the end of the likes of Pardew, Pulis, McClaren and Moyes getting recycled around various premier league clubs.

Massive news - Wally Downes appointed Wimbledon Manager. But they have already warned him about his use of social media!!!
A surprising choice. Yes a former Wimbledon favourite, but not actually been a manager since 2004
So Curbs still has a chance
Still not been officially revealed why Wally was sacked as first team coach at West Ham under Big Sam. My Hammers supporting mates are still mystified .

Southampton have not had a good record with transfers recently. Carillo came in for £19m in January, and was loaned out in the summer!

And the former Dons midfielder will have Glyn Hodges, who also played for the South London club, as his assistant boss.
First-team coach Simon Bassey, who had been in interim charge, continues as first-team coach but Steven Reid, who came in temporarily to boost their backroom team, has moved on.
