What if one injury could end your career?
What if your career would be over in five years?3 -

Joe wants to stay at Charlton, hopefully we offer close to or match the other offers, if so I think he stays
I hope this explains the situation. 😀2 -

Each to their own and all that, but I’m not going’s to expend any thought or energy into worrying about next season. This one is still very much alive and there are a load of variables in play which will determine how our squad and management team looks next year. Got all summer to ponder that.10

if we go up players will sign, if we don’t they will leave. it’s rather important, therefore, that we go up, as I really couldn’t handle the possibility of losing Parker!2

This is what people fail to understand.
I am certain Elliot, Hamer and Poyet are not in the slightest bit concerned that they have barely kicked a ball since they left Charlton. Good luck to them, they were given opportunities they could not turn down.

I would say Aribo needs to play at a higher level and if we go up, his best option would be to stay with us for another season. If we don't, it is wise to move. He seems like an intelligent lad and it wouldn't make sense for him to decide his future until he knows what division we will be in. But he is comfortable in our team and with us he could focus on the step up without having to negotiate his way through a new set up which may not be a problem but has more chance to derail things.0 -

A player might want to test himself at a higher level, play with and against better players, train at better facilities. Also in Aribo's case he'll be well aware of how many other players are out of contract and probably leaving in the summer and knowing it's unlikely RD will do much to strengthen the squad. He doesn't even know if Bowyer and Jackson will still be here.
So if we're offering (for example as i've no idea) 5-6k a week and a championship side is offering 10-12k a week, it's a no brainer for him to accept it.
Would you have been so keen to stay in your current role if you felt your current place of work was going downhill and 50% of the colleagues you liked working with and the boss you knew well and trusted were all possibly going to leave in the next few months?3 -
If I were a player at Charlton at any level from the Youth teams to the first team I would be looking around.
I have friends with kids in decent football g academies at the minute who wouldn’t think of sending their kids to Charlton.
if you had the option of a pay rose and getting away from the uncertainty, the lack of drive and the basic lack of u sweats ding of what makes a football club the Duchâtelet offers, definitely be looking around.0 -
I think Charlton is a decent bet as an academy as the route to the first team is likely to be easier.3

My son was a the Spurs academy a few years back and they were just trawling. Only an incredibly small amount of boys make it and a bigger percentage make it at Charlton I would imagine. Even if that percentage is still pretty scary.2

After that in the London area we compare very well to the other local sides. Brentford don't even have an academy0 -

Less than 1% of all the kids at academy’s make it into any level of paid football.
The sad thing is that the vast % of footballers who get ‘culled’ at a club leave football completely.0 -

We took him out and he joined the University of Hertfordshire football development centre which gave him better coaching twice a week, and it was local. It was aligned to norwich City and then Crystal Palace and had access to their coaches. He is 18 now and still trains there on a Saturday morning. He is not going to be a professional footballer, but he is a very good keeper and that will give him lots of enjoyment in the years to come.3 -

When I was a coach/manager in the massive Tandridge League with the catchment of Surrey/Kent and south London with Waterloo, where the likes of Lookman played for a season being a strong side.
The Situation where 6 year olds are attached to pro clubs and told not to play with their mates on a Sunday was crazy.
(Allowed to play for their school team)
One example stood out for me when Palace stopped an 8 year old lad playing. He was playing a year above his age group. The sad thing was he was released at 14 by Palace and then struggled to get back into his local side as he had put on so much weight after being rejected. His dad told me he knew from when he was 11 that the likes of Wilf Zaha who had recently joined the academy and was a year older were so advanced on the majority of the boys.
Out of the myriad of young players i saw the only one who "made it" was a young female player who played in the boys team till she was 10, before being attached to Chelsea ladies. I'm glad to say now in her mid 20's plays for Cafc woman as a semi pro and does football training camps for young boys and girls. Was good to see her play at the Valley recently in a win against Millwall.
A very long and hard road to make it as a professional footballer.1 -
Lee Bowyer has arrived for his final pre-match press conference of the regular season ahead of Saturday’s visit of @officiallydale. Quotes to follow... #cafc
LB: “Every game is important. Saturday is a game that we want to go and win. The play-offs doesn't change that. We want to continue this good run. We're all in a good place and the most important thing is to keep that wining mentality.” #cafc
LB: “ There will be changes again. We were without Pat, Lyle and Krystian last week, but I feel we need to give them time this weekend so they are sharp. So they will be involved.” #cafc
LB: “The lads that came in last weekend were outstanding and it topped them up for minutes which is important because you don't know what's round the corner with injuries and suspensions.” #cafc
MoreLB: “I think Portsmouth will finish third. I was at their game the other night and they should have won. Whoever we get, it will be difficult because it's four sides who deserve to be in the play-offs.” #cafc
LB: “We have shown we can beat anybody this season. We just need to make sure we're ready. There's no one I'm afraid of. I believe in the squad that I have.” #cafc
LB: “The emotions will be high, the adrenaline will be pumping so it's my job to make sure they stay level headed and treat it like a normal game. It's about playing the most natural game that we play on a Saturday.” #cafc
LB: “We've had a full squad, near enough and it's shown. We've been able to rotate and the lads deserve all the credit because they've been outstanding. When we have a full squad, we are a very, very good team.” #cafc

- LB: “Jonny Williams picked up an injury last week. He twisted his ankle so he will be out this weekend, but that's the only concern.” #cafc
- LB on contract: “Not really any update. I had a positive conversation at the end of last week, but we've got a bit stuck at the moment and that's where we are. But as I've said, that's not my biggest worry. I believe we will come to an agreement.”
- LB: “What I'm asking for is fair. I'm not a greedy person, it's just what I feel I've earned. I feel that we'll get there in the end, but I'm disappointed it hasn't been done before the end of the season.” #cafc
- That concludes this morning's press conference.
Valley Pass subscribers will be able to see it in full later today. #cafc

Whatever lies ahead (Championship or more League 1 dross), if we have Bowyer then we will give it a proper go.5

We had a player this season for the U18 team I manage, where he joined the mighty Royston and was told he could no longer play for us! I can understand there may be games that are close together and clash, but it was a blanket ban from playing for us in any game even though he wanted to. Now their season has ended, he can play for us in our cup final next week!0
