No let up for the players now, straight back to Test and domestic T20 cricket! They could probably do with a break, but the Ireland test starts next Wednesday!
It'll be interesting who is picked for that match, as while many of the players need a break, they also quickly need to get back into red ball cricket before the Ashes so need the matches0 -
Archer is surely nailed on for the Ashes.
You've got an ageing Anderson and Broad. I always thought we were going to struggle to replace those two. Then bang! Archers on the scene. He must play.
Roy I'm not so sure. He really struggled yesterday in conditions that resembled a test wicket.
Might not be his game but he does deserve a chance.0 -

Would also give Roy a chance. Given the recent track record of Jennings and James Vince, Roy deserves a shot in the test team.0 -
Jimmy is injured. Broad has been unexceptional for Notts this season, it'll be very interesting which bowlers they choose for the Ireland Test, especially if any of the WC squad have injury/fatugue issues0

Unforgettable game. Watched the highlights again last night, slightly less bleary eyed.
The Ross Taylor lbw was a bad decision but all part of the game. Not quite so sure about the “6 not 5“ decision which has been well canvassed on here. All credit to Kane and the boys, not a word of complaint.
Now they have to re-group for a tour of Sri Lanka in a couple of weeks.0 -
We have had some mediocre batsman fail multiple times in tests, but the one day successes don't get a 2nd chance. Malan, Westley, Stoneman FFS! For instance Roy and Morgan for 2 and 5. Trickier with bowlers. I'd say Jimmie & Broad have the shirt to lose.0

Harsh on broad but would personally go with Ali at 7, Curran at 8, Woakes at 9, Archer at 10 and Jimmy at 11. Got swing, pace and left arm variations in that attack.
Batsman wise, no idea but would probably go Root 3, Bairstow 4, Stokes 5 and Buttler 6. I would happily have Roy in the test team but not above 5.0 -
Root refuses to bat at 3 - which is one of the reasons we will end up, once again, with three inexperienced bats up top. Roy will be in the Test team against Ireland next week and will play at least the first two Ashes Tests. Smith and Bayliss have both said as much. Agreed he doesn't look totally convincing against the moving ball but he must be a better bet than the likes of Vince.1

Complete farce that the domestic 50 over competition will be completely marginalised by the 100 next season. Played at the same time and reduced to a micky mouse competition for younger players
It's not as if 50 overs skills can just be honed in T20 matches, being able to pace an innings is something that T20 matches don't allow.3 - Sponsored links:

I see there are still rumblings for NZ about how the final should be "drawn" and we share the trophy.
Apart from the fact that everyone knew the rules & signed up to them before the competition started, would someone care to point out the following to the disgruntled black caps:
If the "decider" went on a head to head basis then England would have won, based on the fact we beat them in the group stage.
If the "decider" went on net run rate in the final table then England would have won
If the "decider" went on the final places in the table then England would have won, being 3rd to their 4th.
Jeez............how many times do we need to have won the bloody thing !!!

Yep, all about encouraging attacking play. Cricket's equivalent of the away goals rule. If it achieves what it's supposed to, it's a good thing. If it doesn't, it's a bit of a joke. Either way everyone knew the rules from the outset.
