Poor stuff that one.

Some advice on the game of football: 1. It's a team game, so it's good to pass the ball. Do try to remember though that not everyone is in your team. The opposition, their trainer, ball boys and St John's ambulance volunteers, don't play for Charlton so don't pass to them. 2. If you're not sure of your short passing options, a workable alternative may be to miss out the midfield and hoof long balls up the pitch. For this to work you should aim the ball at someone who is good enough to score on their own or hold the ball up for others. 3. Those players in blue hanging around in your box might get lonely. If you spot one, try standing next to him. 4. When they place the ball in the corner, take that as a sign they are going to cross the ball in an attempt to score. Don't stand rooted to the spot, try to get to the ball before they do. 5. At the other end of the pitch behind the man in the green jersey is a contraption called a goal. When you have a shot, it's so much more satisfying if you aim at this.

Hopefully Bow is very honest and says it how it is. Seems like he had/will do.

Next week a big one as Leeds are a very good side. With two defeats in a row now, I think a change in setting up could be needed, especially against the league leaders. I’d start with 5 in midfield and go from there, this is a game where the ball ought to be on the ground far more than not.

Two defeats against sides we maybe could’ve expected to have got points from and that’s what hurts more. Losing Taylor is a blow beyond words as I genuinely don’t believe we would’ve lost both had he not been out.

Need to learn quickly and that’s where Bow earns his salt in a way. We know he’s a fantastic manager already, but how he gets us to respond is key.

2 games, 0 goals.......with shots on target in both games coming well after the 60th minute. I dont give stuff what "expected goals" says....the more you shoot the more likely  you will score.

Did Dillon come out for the crosses from corners when they scored? Should he have done?

Thought we were outplayed from one end of the pitch to the other. Lockyer was by far our best player.

Reminds me a bit of our first Premiership season. Great start, ran into an ordinary but streetwise Derby team and lost 0-1 at home, went on a run of defeats.

Powell's first Championship team also went on a poor run but finished 9th.

I think Bowyer has the right attitude, and won't allow the players to get too low after a couple of defeats.  It's an unforgiving game if you can't take your chances, but these are still the same players who started so well. Taylor will be a miss, of course, but we do have other players capable. I think we'll be OK. 

At the game:

My third visit to the DW stadium and I still have yet to see us win there with two defeats and a draw to my name. It was a blue sky, warm, albeit breezy early autumnal day in Lancashire.

 Several changes saw Sarr, Oshilaja, Williams and Pratley in for Pearce, Solly, Oztumer and Field respectively. Usual diamond formation although we were off the pace early on and handed the initiative to the home side almost from the off. Any forays we managed down our left either came to nothing with Purrington either running the ball out of play or being dispossessed. This malaise seemed to creep through the team with Sarr and Pratley misplacing passes. The Latics seemed to open us up at will and how they never converted several balls across the face of our goal I don't know. Ironically that all important first goal came from a corner as Oshilaja was outmuscled by their larger CB who wrapped his foot around the cross and with no one on Phillips right hand post we went 1-0 down.

 Without testing their keeper in the first half Bowyer must have read the riot act as furthermore several of his players were not giving 100%. We started the second period much better and gave me hope that we would get back into the game. Alas this was not to be as shortly after Hemed was substituted on the hour Wigan scored their second yet again from a corner by the scorer of the first but this time he attacked the ball unchallenged at the far post.

 We kept going and Tom Lockyer who had defended resolutely had three glorious chance  to score and then to top it all he skied a longer range effort over the bar in the dying embers. Fair play to him for being in the right place which apart from one Bonne snapshot you can't say that of the rest of our forwards.

 A very disappointing performance for the circa 1000 travelling Addick's to witness who tried their best to spur their team on. Even more gutting is that we got sucker punched from two corners and failed to find the net from enough chances to have got at least a point from the game. Chucks impressed in his brief cameo and must be worthy of a start next time out.
