First game 1967, ST holder for many years, was at Wembley for both play-offs, done Selhurst, Upton Park and was at the Pompey game and one of Belgium 200. I was a prolific poster on this site, why do you doubt I am a supporter?  Guys like you with inane posts make me fall out of love with our club.

To give context, I am a pensioner with a bad back and in lower North, plagued by standers in front of me who have threatened me when asked to 'siddown'.
  • Tbh, how you can see anything in north lower without standing,  I dont know.
  • North lower has the old style rake doesn't it?

All this just shows that we need safe standing.
Not coming any day soon so perhaps could show areas that sitting will be active stewarded and have areas where this is not shown. This way the club is not seen actively supporting fans standing, but would help fans get the match experience they want.
  • But did the ball "come out" once it hit the post. The keeper tried to save it.....got fingertips to it which pushed if onto the post. It then hit him & goes in. If it hadnt of hit him it might have gone in anyway.

An OG should be for players who either strike it directly (like Naby at Wembley) or if a shot is off target the ball hits them & goes in. Not if a ball strikes them on the way in.
Having watched the replay I would suggest it is coming out. Obviously cant say for certain but it does look like its rolling out. Although we had 2 players waiting to tap in. If that's the case it's an own goal.

I agree with your second statement and that is the rules. If a shot is on target and takes a deflection the attacker gets the goal. It's not clear which is the case here.
  • I suppose the difference is whether you want to give the goal to Lockyer or not. I think if another player is involved it sort of changes things. But if a keeper gets a touch to a goalbound shot that goes in, it isn't considered an own goal so I son't think there is too much of a leap to say Lockyer's goal was his. If you desire to.
I dont really get your comment. Of course I would prefer Lockyer to get the goal, doesnt mean that's correct. I dont think it changes if another player is involved.

It's an own goal if the ball was coming out, its Lockyers if it wasnt. Unfortunately I think the keeper saved it but we will never know for certain. Either way it hit the net which is the main thing.

You fall out of love with the club over posts like that? Bloody hell I dont think forums are for you...

I mean, if you want an outcome and it is 40/60 one way, make it 60/40 the other. Rules are there to be challenged and broken. You have said you think the ball is coming out from the post but can't be sure. So that not sure bit could be used to give Lockyer the benefit.

Yeah maybe and I hope it does go to Lockyer. Although I dont think the OG rule needs to be challenged or broken. The goal yesterday is a rare example to be honest, its usually pretty clear.

To be honest, from my West Stand Upper view, I thought the keeper had pushed it wide and in all honesty, he probably should have. I had to double take that the ball was actually in the goal.
  • Has to go down as an og for me - if it hadn't hit the keeper it would have stayed out.
  • I was absolutely disgusted when people stood up at Wembley. Anyone would think standing up is a natural reaction to excitement.

    Legs OUT!
Especially when a goal goes in. It’s not on.
  • I’ve been in the west lower for years, and for me it’s just a choice based on the view.  I have pretty much accepted that you will never get chanting and singing etc, but I’m disappointed to read of people getting annoyed when others are standing up etc.  Supporting your team means you can’t help but get involved emotionally, particularly in a game like y’day.  I love losing the plot when we score and going for it.  Seeing all these limbs videos these days, it’s great to watch and great to be a part of it.

100% have family areas, but I would love where I sit to have the same atmosphere as the north.

  • Phillips: fine save early on, some wastefully hot-headed distribution but that's not the worst fault - CAFC's #1 by a long way
Lockyer: awful, weak, dopey, culpable for both goals, decent connection for our 2nd goal but that went barely half way to making up for just how hopeless he was throughout
Oshilaja: fractionally better than Lockyer but if he's really an option at CH, Jason Pearce must have a broken leg and pleurisy
Sarr: critical interventions in both boxes our best defender by miles (!!! christ !!!) few blemishes
Matthews: mostly decent against tricky quick cynical diving opposition
Pratley; one of the best Charlton performances I've seen in years, without him yesterday we'd have got drubbed, was everywhere possible his legs and lungs could get him, conducted affairs throughout, must have eyes in the back of his head, schooled the Baggies midfield in 'game management', had the measure of the fucktard referee right from the off, one critical ball winning tackle late on I still can't quite believe he got to, without fouling the cheating yellow prick.  M-o-M by several miles
    Gallagher: he's really very good
Dempsey: decent showing, against skilled powerful opposition, will have served him, and us, really well
Doughty: looks like he's been playing at this level for years, rather than weeks
Davison; tremendous shift against significantly bigger more experienced and cynical opposition, terrific instinct for the goal, stayed on the pitch giving it all for at least half an hour longer than his body was actually fit for, such was the pounding he'd taken, no protection at all from the laughable knob with the whistle
Green: quiet game, lack of sharpness probably understandable, aversion to the muck and bullets of the game in these situations less so.
Forster-Caskey: good to see him back, shored things up nicely
Williams: good to see him back, rusty as all hell but if he can stay out of the way of too many of the sorts of challenges he was greeted with he'll be invaluable
Hemed:  n/a! as in no application. waster parasite prick didn't try a leg, spent more time sat on his fat arse complaining to the ref that he hadn't got a free kick for sitting down on his fat arse, if I never see him again in a Charlton shirt it will be too soon.
    Referee: no words, absolutely none
Would have given this a like all day long if it hadn't been for the Hemed stuff which was out of order. Maybe the lols would have been likes too. It's all about opinions, but that seems way ott (sorry).
  • Covered End - most people stand
East and West stands - everyone sits

As it happens many people in my section of the East stand missed their second goal as someone was returning late from half time with a burger...

Unfortunately atmosphere goes hand in hand with standing up and getting involved.. not sat shaking your fist at people showing emotion and getting excited (not a dig at you btw). I'm pretty certain the noisesiest grounds are where more people stand.

  • North Lower had to stand up loads Saturday.

So grateful..... I’m 6ft 1 and for the past 4 years have had to sit with my knees around my ears. Worst seats in football stadium history but I love it there. Been pretty much on my own with my Dad and my 2 boys as no one like North Lower Season Tickets (either that or didn’t like my family)

Bring back 20k + crowds, rather stand all game long 👍

I sat there for an FA Cup game last season, possibly for the first time since 1994 and had forgotten how uncomfortable it was there! I assume the JS is the same
  • Another point towards safety
    blood and thunder loved it
    Pratley was our enforcer
never thought we had 2 goals in us (thankfully the oppo give us one ;-)
Feel a bit more confident after that display but where will that next win or a clean sheet come from

I think it is ok for people to stand and believe there should be safe standing areas in grounds. Where I have an issue with some people who stand is those that don't respect that the person sitting behind them may have a reason why they can't stand and having no sympathy with them or respect for that condition. Some seem to have an attitude - F off, I am a better supporter than you because I support the lads better than you. I can stand if I want to.

These tend to be the same sort of people who let one go in the middle of a crowd and think it is funny. At least be embaressed by it FFS!
  • Remember when I went to a Buble concert at o2 couple of years ago - I know.... was with family and was a present....

Buble said I know it’s proper dodgy right up there in the 400’s seats and you get vertigo. Also for anyone who wants to party and have a good time, stand up and party !!

“If they moan or argue, turn around and tell them to F... Off !!”

Probably not the best advice in the West Lower but Buble did make me laugh !
  • The tannoy announcement yesterday asking for someone to make themselves known to the nearest steward. I’m sure it started with, this is a customer announcement, at least it wasn’t in a Belgium accent.
  • I agree it's a bit of a grey area. The panel will say the keeper touches it onto the post, and it is coming out until it hits the goalkeeper again, therefore o.g. But I get the argument that the keeper wouldn't touch it in the first place if it weren't for Lockyer's header, and the only reason he is in the position to deflect it back in is because he is dealing with the original header. An o.g just feels wrong in these cases, even though it is technically correct.
It isn't a grey area at all.  The rules of the game are quite clear.  If it's heading toward the net after an attacker touches it, regardless of if the 'keeper's likely to save it, and it touches a defender, it's a goal to the attacker.  If it's not heading into the net and it touches a defender, it's an own goal.

Campbell's against Denmark in the World Cup was never his goal as it wasn't heading toward the net when the Dane touched it.  Lockyer's yesterday isn't Lockyer's as the 'keeper had saved it and it wasn't heading toward the net when it hit the 'keeper and went in.

Would it be a good idea to sit along the sides so you can enjoy the game better?

Rightly or wrongly, fans behind the goal tend to stand.  You would not have this problem in either the East or West stands.
  • Spirited performance. Good result against a quality side, albeit one playing like an early '70's copy of Leeds United. But: we're in trouble. Any more one goal defeats in our remaining fixtures and it'll be a desperate relegation fight.
    Strange comment considering we drew.

North Lower's seats are palatial compared to the away end at Luton.
