That is amazing Danny; great that the club will honour your father in this way. Hope you are ok.
  • I’ll be doing a tribute to Les on the Charlton Fan Show on Lovesport radio at 7.00pm to 8.00pm this evening.

for those interested Dad (Les) will be the pride of the Valley on Saturday. I’ll be pitch side with my kids before KO about 2.50pm apparently

looking forward to it, will be very emotional and I’ve sent across a few pics for the programme.
Pleased to hear this and not before time. I will break my usual habit and be in early to see it. Enjoy it, your Dad would.

Is this available to listen to by podcast or something?, I’m not around until Friday really. Thanks

Funeral details for those that wish to know as I’ve had lots of requests

The service will take place on Thursday the 19th March 2020 at 12.30pm at Falconwood Crematorium, Crown Woods Way, SE9 2AZ. The service will be conducted by Matt Baker (Charlton Athletic club Chaplin)

The Wake after will be at The Boathouse, Danson Park, Danson Road, DA6 8HL

All are welcome, I would ask that anyone wishing to attend either or both, please advise by return, in order that we have a rough idea of numbers.

Flowers can be ordered from Regency Flowers on 01322 526252 or alternatively should you wish then donations to Demelza House, a local charity very close to CAFC’s heart.

    Many thanks

    Thanks.
I would like to pop along. I didnt realise Les was your dad.
I first met Les when i was about 11 and at a game when we were playing at Selhurst. Id got a bit lost and split up from my mates and was in a bit of a panic but scared to ask for help. Your dad took the time to walk the stands with me and sorted me out with my mates. Never forgot that.
Saw him plenty growing up at Charlton home and away and so pleased to see the photo of him at Wembley, i didnt know he had made the game.

Would have preferred it at some point during the game but at least it was done.

Couldn’t fault the club today (well off the pitch anyway!), Keith Peacock is an absolute legend, also big shout out to Chris Parkes, Brian Cole and Tom Rubashow for everything they did. Nice piece in the programme and we’ll get some great pictures from on the pitch.

the flag was superb @northstandsteve and got loads of great comments and I know the kids will take it everywhere. It’ll certainly be draped over the coffin and the funeral.

whilst Dad liked flowers, a few people have asked if we had any alternative for those not wishing to send flowers. We've set this up for anyone who wished to donate.

    Many thanks

For anyone wondering (or who may have been planing to attend) the funeral tomorrow goes ahead as scheduled. Have had a few drop outs (mainly from those who were travelling some distance) totally understandable in the current climate and everyone has to do what they feel is best given the current situation. However I for one am just very glad we didn't have to delay it.

Details further up this thread, Falconwood Crem @ 12.30 then the Boathouse in Danson Park after.

    Thanks

Can quite understand there being some very disappointed people around, who,  because of the current situation will have to choose not to attend.
No doubt they will be well choked.
One comforting thing is the knowledge that Les, being a kind and considerate guy, would have completely understood their decision.
I hope the day goes well and that the service reflects the high esteem in which he was held by all at the club and beyond........I’m sure it will.
    RIP.....Les......RIP.

cheers @sou@"SoundAsa£" yes I've taken calls from some very disappointed friends (none more so than Keith Peacock) who have made the difficult decision not to travel for obvious reasons, however we are planning a summer memorial service to scatter the ashes at the Valley once all of this is over and will ensure those that miss out can come along

Great send off today, thanks to those who came (totally understand those that didn’t come and the reasons for that and I know some made some very difficult decisions) brilliant service conducted by the CAFC Chaplin Matt Baker and a great send off after. Tracey Leaburn came on behalf of the club which was a fantastic touch and just reinforces my thoughts as to what a great club we have.

we will be having a memorial service at some point in the summer and all will be welcome, I will post details once all this is over.

All the best, Danny.  Nice touch by Tracey and the club. Good to hear Les had a good send off; and yes, he did touch so many with his kindness.

  • You, Laura and all your family did yourself proud today. Will miss Les so much.
