Not gonna share it, but the same Doris on my Facebook from last night has now shared something saying that the image of a lad who passed away recently from C-19 has been used before in 2017 for a lad, different name, who passed away.

The 5G conspiracy theories are mental - although we had the same thing on 4G to a lesser extent.

5G is absolutely no different to any other mobile technology - except for the fact that it uses spectrum more efficiently than in previous generations of technology (4G-LTE, 3G-WCDMA and so on).

That's pretty much it, if the operators deploy 5G on the same spectrum that they deliver 4G on - and in the UK that is 800Mhz, 1400MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, 2300MHz and 2600MHz then you won't actually see much difference.

Yes, you will get faster speeds but the network is essentially the same as a 4G network.

The big difference on 5G is not so much the technology of 5G itself but the spectrum bands that the technology operates in - because these bands generally offer more capacity in them - which means you can deliver higher speeds to more end-users.

So, in the UK, you are initially using 2300MHz and 3400MHz spectrum - although 700MHz will also be used too as will spectrum in the 3600MHz to 3800MHz range.

However - although you DO get more spectrum availability (think of a bigger tunnel than can take more cars) in these higher spectrum ranges there is a price to pay for that.

Once you get above 2500MHz then you tend to get substantially poorer 'propagation' meaning the radio signal may not be able to penetrate the walls of buildings - not good when you are delivering a voice and data service.

So, that means that the end-user needs to install an external antennae to successfully receive the 5G signal - you have seen strong evidence of this from the 5G service delivered by '3' where many end-users have complained about signals dropping out.

In addition, the higher the spectrum range you are using then the shorter distance you can actually transmit the signal - that means that you need to build a much larger number of base-stations (normally linked with fibre) to actually serve the end-users.

So, in essence, there is nothing new about 5G really, it just means that you are using updated radio technology (simply more efficient software) and accessing it on a mobile network that has slightly different topography than a 3G/4G network.

If that doesn't convince you then please reflect on the fact that right now in the world there are roughly 2 billion homes connected to fixed-broadband and that 99% of these have Wi-Fi enabled modems that are using 2400MHz spectrum.....which is unlicensed spectrum but pretty much the same stuff that will be used for 5G anyway....so, if there were health problems on 5G then we'd all be dead by now anyway.....

Two birds, one stone.

Conspiracy theories give people explanations and someone to blame.

The universe is chaos, there is no simple explanation, things happen, there is no one person or power in control of it.

But some people struggle with that.

So they buy into conspiracy theories which give them certainty, explain the unexplainable.

Covid19 is horrible, it's scary and it just "happened" (yes, it has a cause which science will explain), it's hard to explain why.

So blaming 5g is easy. 5g is new, it's man made, it's "foreign" and it's appearing at the same time as Covid19 so obviously the two are connected. 

That's what conspiracy theories are for: to give certainty in an uncertain world and dismiss any cognitive dissonance.

They are mostly harmless but then people attack telecoms workers or don't vaccinate their children or believe the Sandy hook elementary school shooting was faked and then it's not so harmless any more.

Hadn’t seen this until I opened this thread this morning.  My nephew’s an Open Reach engineer, so I gave him a call to check up on him.  His team had been briefed on this attack. The lad was stabbed in the legs apparently.  They’re not going into people’s homes at the moment, just working outside.  He was more upset that one of their team had passed away from Covid-19. 

Oh, and Open Reach invoked mandatory weekend work. No overtime, no choice. should be on bloody danger money with the freakin’ space cadets out there!
