Barnsley threatening EFL ahead of Disciplinary action for Wednesday, Derby & Birmingham
Comments

The lack of a known verdict seems to me to show that Wednesday have been found guilty and the EFL are waiting to announce it so they can apply the punishment next season. Not because of us, but because an appeal makes planning impossible. I suspect it gives us the opportunity to take legal action against the league if we can prove the verdict was know weeks ago but that probably gives us some sway in mitigating any punishment the league has in store for us. Ultimately, we are in League One. Now we have to hope we are in league one with decent owners which in the long term would be a better outcome than being in the championship with this mob or Roland.3

If the EFL looked, checked and signed it off, why have the Club been taken to an independent tribunal then?2

I reckon if we had billionaire owners who wanted to get us to the PL as quick as possible and utilised a load of loop holes (fake sponsorships etc) to inject equity (not debt) into the club then most fans would not care a jot and would question why owners are not allowed to chuck their own cash in when it is not being put in as debt.
If Sheffield Wednesday have cheated they should get a points deduction. As fans of the club who finished third bottom we of course want that imposed this season.
But let's not get too hysterical and high and mighty about what cheating is. Lyle Taylor cheated for 18 months and KAG was very adept at lobbing himself 10 yards from a foul to end up in a box on the floor and win a penalty, both were heros whilst doing it for us...4 -
You would imagine that suppressing a verdict to avoid acting on it in a timely manner could lead the EFL open to legal action.1

If you don’t understand why football needs FFP then you will never understand why so many fans are angry - and it has nothing to do with us being relegated.3 -
Shouldve sent that bottled water, from a couple of years ago, to the efl instead as they might need some more after bottling so many decisions0

To be fair its only right that Barnsley continue their campaign against Sheffield Wednesday - If clubs are allowed to cheat the rules then Barnsley will forever be fighting against the tide in the Championship which shouldnt be right21
-
Have to say that I am impressed by Barnsley's owners. They have been pretty consistent all the way through.

FFP needs tightening and punishing clubs who are not following the rules now would be a start. The very future of football in this Country is at risk at the moment.2

All this and the EPL does nothing but accumulate interest on their billions in the bank1

I think Barnsley must still have a teeny tiny worry that the EFL might back down on Wigan so they're keeping the pressure on.
Fair play to them because our team of amazing lawyers certainly won't challenge any efl points deduction failure.
To back that up the statement by Farnell yesterday when Jim White asked if Charlton would challenge any Sheffield decision he said 'we'd certainly look at it'....WTF.....we'd look at it?
It's not a pimple on your face mate...its a football club that is at risk of going out of business....and we need to take action.
That reply for me if he and Elliot were really look looking after our interests should have been more like;
"Fcuking right Jim....we won't let it slide and will go to court...fight them on the beaches...give em a slap....."
Sadly this won't happen so I say Go Barnsley!
Never thought I'd say that in my life!10 -
If the Sheffield hearing was as complicated as we are supposed to believe from the ridiculous delay, Wednesday would have been absorbed of all guilt. We can be confident this isn't the case and the League has been sitting on/delaying the punishment for a reason known to itself. This is almost certainly an absolute scandal and if it comes out, will be of the EFL's making and leave it open for them to be sued and will remove any credibility they have.1

Im not sure if there will be a huge backlash, there doesn't seem to be much public interest outside of the clubs directly affected
Even comparing to City, everyone seems to have just moved on despite we all know them being guilty

Had they not scored that late goal at Brentford, it would have been a terrible outcome for the EFL. Wednesday are going to get the deduction but it will be next season. They know we are in no position to kick up a fuss and they don't want the appeal going into next season.4
-
Could we raise the money to appoint a lawyer to sue the EFL on behalf of the fans? The Wednesday hearing reportedly ended weeks ago. The minimum penalty for the infringement would send them down. They may stay up despite the penalty next season!1

Well done Barnsley.0

I don't understand how and why it takes so long.
How difficult can it be to get all involved parties sitting round one table or dialled into one zoom call, the EFL, the Independent Disciplinary Commission, Sheff Weds and anybody else who needs to be involved in case Sheff Weds want to appeal and just thrash it all out as if they were all in court on jury service.
It's a real pet hate of mine in life in general why things have to take so long when all it needs is to get everybody involved around a table.3 -

Yes, you can argue the infringement was in a previous season, but if they strengthend due to this, it surely impacts on their playing strength this season, making the league an unfair playing field. The League has a punishment for this and charged Wednesday in good time (October). Something corrupt is going on here.2

Are we meant to believe the independent panel are still mulling over Wednesday's punishment?2

Some detective work is required to find out a bit more about this hearing. Who is on it, are they meeting now or have they paused for some strange reason.2

Can't believe Barnsley stayed up they was bottom three since last September.0

All the best to Barnsley19 -
Who appoints the independent panel and who funds it? If the answer to both questions is the EFL it isn't independent.0
