If Wigan win their appeal against their deduction then Barnsley are relegated so they may still well have an interest in the points being deducted this season. e.g. Do they want Sheffield Wednesday to get the points deduction this season because it fits in with when they commited the "crimes" and is the fair option as they will be relegated
Or would they prefer it get applied next season so they've already got an advantage over one of their rivals
Sheffield Wednesday on the other hand have quite blunty cheated and deserve any action coming their way
I agree that Wigan deserve to stay up and they've been shafted by the owners but you can't go into admin and get away without a points deduction as it opens up all kinds of issues for when it happens to the next club.
Agree that any team that goes into Admin should get a points deduction and it does open up all kinds of issues
In Wigan's case though its not the same, the owner only took over a month before making the decision - Foul play has to be at work and if Wigan get saved on that basis then I wont have issue with it
If we're saved because of Sheffield Wednesday AND Wigan then I'll be delighted but I'll still feel sympathy towards the latter, whereas I wont at all for the former5 -

The EFL can't seriously expect us to believe the hearing is still going on and the independent commission are still deliberating? Sheff Weds lawyer has been on holiday for a week!

The adverse effects of Wednesday's cheating occurred to their Championship rivals, THIS season.
Therefore any punishment has to be handed out and applied to their standing, this season, not next, in order to compensate their rivals.
It should be an iron clad legal argument !
We currently have the most eminent Lawyer in the whole of football working for us, so we should be absolutely fine

How hard is it for EFL to say that in independent investigation found Sheff and Derby guilty and the penalty is a 12 point deduction applied this season FFS1

But why....?? Just so Sheff W dont go down this season. ? They had plenty of time post Covid to win enough games to stay up. Not anyones fault but theirs if a 12 point deduction sends them down. Even a 9 point one would do. Also starting next season on -12 could have the same effect so why prolong it.Nug said:

Because Sheff Wed can appeal if found guilty which will cause a lot of disruption for the affected clubs, especially if the appeal is upheld. Just seems it will make life easier to apply it to next seasongolfaddick said:

I can see them being told they are very naughty boys and not to do it again. No points deducted.1

The EFL won't dock Wednesday points this season as it means we would stay in the championship, and the EFL's agenda seems to be to either relegate us or expel us from the league. At the moment, expulsion seems to be the EFL's preferred choice.0

I do t think the efl have a deliberate agenda to pick on Charlton. The English Football League is under renewed pressure from furious Championship clubs to resolve the charges hanging over Sheffield Wednesday and Derby.Wednesday and Derby are facing the prospect of points deductions if found guilty of breaking EFL rules, and rival clubs are growing increasingly frustrated that the disputes have not been concluded.Both clubs have appeared in front of independent disciplinary commissions and the EFL is now waiting for the verdicts, with the majority of the Championship now demanding a resolution by the end of this week.Wigan Athletic’s appeal against a 12-point deduction for going into administration will be heard on Friday, but at this stage they will be relegated along with Hull City and Charlton.Yet a heavy points deduction for Wednesday, who ended the season eight points clear of the bottom three, could have a huge impact on the final relegation places.Wednesday were charged by the EFL in November with financial misconduct, relating to the sale of their Hillsborough stadium, and are still waiting to discover the outcome of June’s hearing.Derby’s own disciplinary hearing concluded earlier this month and sources close to the club insist there is no possibility of a verdict this season. Derby were charged with exceeding “excess losses” in a case also linked to their stadium.Barnsley ensured their survival on the final day by winning at Brentford, staying up by one point, and the club have been vocal on the lack of action.Paul Conway, Barnsley’s co-chairman, told Telegraph Sport on Monday: “We at Barnsley want a stronger and more strict English Football League. We want to empower the EFL to make quicker and stricter decisions.“[But] Much of the blame needs to be put on the clubs themselves.
