The ball played over the defence for Bent to run on to, what a player.

Think Bent is probably the best striker I've seen for us given the level we were playing at.
That said I wished Mendonca had stayed fit. Always remember his goal at Villa Park where he made the faintest of dummies, which Southgate bought completely, before scoring. Such a clever player and brilliant finisher.6 -

One of the rare home games I missed back then as it was my wedding day. Sitting at the wedding breakfast I kept looking over at my brother in law who was following the game on his phone and would keep signalling 0-0 to me.Exiled_Addick said:

All of a sudden he coughed, waited for me to look at him, then signalled 1-0, then got a straw and bent it, then held up a pen. I was proper chuckling inside. ladyromford twigged what was happening with all the signalling and just rolled her eyes. She knew what she was getting into. 😎

The interview was repeated on Talksport earlier this morning, for those that missed or want to hear it againThe Prince-e-Paul said:The interview on Talksport was really good. Comes across as a very humble guy that wanted to be the best he could be. Talked about breaking into the training ground at night with Darren Ambrose. The two would leave a ball in the bushes during the day session and collect it later to do some extra training. Also spoke very fondly of a landlady he had whilst playing for Charlton. Only with Charlton a year but very well thought of....and he knows it....and gets us. Us. Quality right through.

My favourite goal too. Still amazed to this day... It was Wenger who got in Svens ear about taking him, so I blame him for part of it. That, & taking a clearly unfit Owen, who immediately got injured.

Going in with Rooney half fit and Walcott as an untried 17 year old was so daft, basically left Crouch and a not completely fit Owen.

In my time of supporting Charlton, Bent is definitely in my top 10 of all time favourite players who never got the recognition his obvious talent deserved. Was gutted when he departed and no amount of money that Spurs paid for him really made up for the disappointment of losing him.7
