Doughty is the only player in our current line up who hasn't come from another club. That is the way of the world now. There is no loyalty simply because clubs can't afford to offer the security of long term contracts and whether we like it or not the likes of Taylor and Bonne are playing for clubs at a higher level.
We have been equally guilty, in the past where we have been the "bigger" club, of "stealing" players for next to nothing, But that was OK because it was us doing the "stealing". We got £2m for Bonne and it is possible that we were the ones who committed the crime in selling dodgy goods! Equally, what's he meant to say on joining his new club " I really didn't want to leave Charlton but they thought they would cash in on me even though I'm not worth that much!!!"
But we got £2m for a player who is not absolutely proven at that level and who was not guaranteed to get us 20 goals at this level simply because of the way LB sets his team up to play - 5 shots on target (and 5 goals) in the last 3 games suggests that you need a player who will bring more of an all round game than a poacher's instinct because we actually create so little. LB even turned on him via the media because of his misses but also because the reality is that we have to make the most of the few chances we get.
Bonne apologised for what he said yet people still want him to fail and can't forgive or forget. Or accept that the money we got for him gave us more financial stability. We didn't get a penny for Lockyer after all but because he kept his mouth and say how much he was looking forward to the step up to playing for Luton that he is a modern day saint by comparison. And Luton are a step up whether we like it or not because they weren't relegated and currently sit in 9th place in the Championship. Although some people still insist that he isn't good enough for that League too.
A supporter scorned and all that!5 -

I don't think he should be leading the line even in league one and I wouldn't want him to start too many games if he did end up playing for us again. That said he has enough about him to be effective as an impact sub and with the right partner he could be successful as a second striker.

I think some are a little peeved he's gone because it appears we've got very little up top.
I wasn't a huge fan, and we've all heard the stories of his agent being a bit of a prick, but I think the hate towards him is a bit strong1 -

Be interested to check when in the timeline of this season did QPR's interest in Bonne started. I'd take him back on loan in January if it meant his head was in the game for us.
But it'll never happen, QPR are more likely to recall Smyth than they are to send Bonne to us. And now he's done all the stages of the break-up with our fan base, it'd probably be too awkward anyway. Hopefully we'll have some room in January to try for Schwartz again.1 -

Lot of direct comparison between Bonne and Bogle which I find slightly strange as I don't see them as the same type of player at all, but I think the pair of them upfront would have worked very well. Bogle to collect the ball and hopefully lay it into Bonne... who fluffs the one-on-one
A pretty moot point anyway, Bonne's gone and won't be coming back, but do genuinely hope he does well. Think we've had the better of the deal anyway and think we'll at least make Playoffs without him thanks to the rebuild that he partially financed through his 2m sale - thanks for your service Macauley1 -

Not saying that we an abundance of wages but I cant believe that they have nothing in the pot for January.1 -

I could only see three potentials and I don't think we would get the benefit from selling them, we'd damage our squad depth... (Williams, F.Caskey & Purrington)2 -

I’d rather Bonne than what we have now , in terms of strikers- taking on board Leuth’s point about what the wages have freed up for other players . Compare the goal records1

Bogle is a big lump but his first touch is a absolutely appalling. His goal scoring record shows you that he will not succeed as a striker here. Anneke is a better player and his goal-scoring record is better but it's e pecting a lot for him to up it considerably to spearhead a promotion bid, especially as he is injured so often. Washington looks best bet for goals and he isn't exactly prolific. In my mind, Bonne would have scored more than any of them but may have missed Lyle Taylor more than we will know.3

I really can't fathom people getting upset by Bonne saying his head was turned. He's clarified that he meant he wanted to carry on playing in the Championship, which isn't exactly an unreasonable way to think. We also got over £2m for him. Let's look at it another way; Lockyer could have not activated his clause, but he could have come to an agreement with the club where he would sign for Luton if they paid a fee for him; we wouldn't stand in his way but we would expect some money in given that we were desperately short of cash to keep going He didn't do that though, he walked for free first chance he could. He doesn't get any grief though (and nor should he, it's business) but Bonne gets pelters because people feel slighted by him not saying that Charlton are the biggest club in the world. It's really bizarre. I guess I'll just never understand how a player we signed from the National League who scored 11 goals for us in the second division and kept us going when Taylor was out injured/refused to play is thought of so aggressively negatively

The problem with Bonne is just that he didn't add a lot, and we've seen what Gallen and Bowyer can do with a bit of money. 2 million should buy you a much better player than him. You get 3 or 4 great goals a season, a few tap ins, and one off his arse. An out and out striker, with the decent service he got, should've got more. And we're now playing a system relying more on the midfield and set pieces, where we need hold up merchants and wingers. It's not pretty yet and I doubt Bonne would've scored in the last few games given how we've played. So when you sell him you pray it's not a big mistake and he doesn't turn out fantastic, come back and haunt us, or haunt the decision. So far, so reassuring... hence a jocular bit of schadenfreude at the expense of a player who made the same comment any player makes when he gets an unexpected leap in division and salary. I wouldn't want him back, but a better player of his type... sure!3

Some of the hate may be OTT, but I think most of us are just enjoying be proved right.
The blokes been there 5 minutes.( And scored)
If 5 minutes is the litmus test then I think we can safely put Bogle in the same category.
QPR fans seem to be in agreement with us, he's not Championship quality.4 -
Some players are badly advised / don't know how to play the PR game / haven't had the right media training - choose any or all of the above for Bonne.
Whether or not you rated him as a player, this thread would be full of support had he balanced his words....
"I had a fantastic time at Charlton, they are a great club and the management, players and fans were good to me. QPR made an offer which gave me the opportunity to play at a higher level and the manager was prepared to let me go. Like Charlton, QPR are a great club and I'm looking forward to challenging for a place in the team and to continue developing as a player"
On the interpretation of words hangs a reputation. Get it right you are fine, get it wrong you are hung out to dry, irrespective of your ability as a player.
