POST-MATCH THREAD: Charlton v Accrington | Fri 8 Jan 2021

Bowyer just seems to be lost in a downward spiral of negativity.
He's lashing out in a borderline unprofessional manner and chucking yet more players under the bus.
There can't be many left who want to do well for him.
You're hardly going to play well if your squad suffers from a climate of fear and fear of failure.
How is piling more negativity onto the players going to produce a POSITIVE outcome?
Maybe he is pining for his fishing lakes after all.23 -
Just listened to Bow's post match interview.
I'm certain some of you will say it's the same old, same old.
I've begun to calm down a bit since the final whistle & am now more worried than angry with tonight's performance.
1st half was a great watch for the impartial viewers, with Stanley edging it & a cringeworthy error from Jason making the difference.
Thought Millar looked very quick & promising - a touch of the Alfie Doughty's ? - and the diminutive Smyth was another positive for me. The energy from our lads overall was encouraging with a more attack looking team than of late. Still unsure why Maddison & Chuks were left out of the starting 11 once again though.
2nd half ? Well, I stopped watching after their 2nd goal. But what I did see filled me with dread. Can't explain except to say we weren't at the races. End of.
Back to Bow's interview.
Have to agree that we had players out there that didn't bust a gut tonight, and as others have already stated, looked a tad disinterested at times. Is this the result of too much tinkering with the squad and players being unsure of what they are expected to do/what role they are filling THIS time ? Has Bow lost the dressing room? Has the great team spirit we've boasted of in the past finally begun to disintegrate in the wake of ongoing dismal performances?
As always, so many questions, with not enough answers.
But, we now have to lock away this defeat and look to Tuesday's match.
No Pratley, no Watson and seemingly no Maddison in addition to our longer term crocks. Maybe the fewer fit players he has to choose from will make Bow's job somewhat easier ? I hope for all concerned that whoever wears the shirt plays their heart out & leaves us in no doubt that they've given their all.
The faithful deserve nothing less.
And neither does our Great Dane.
( An emergency trip to Lidl's tomorrow to top up with "essentials"....)5 -
Anybody that has any idea of people management knows that if you make statements like LB has tonight then you are asking for trouble. For whatever reason he is losing the plot. Yes its the players that are on the pitch and they are the ones that need to perform. But if they are being treated badly then they ain't going to want to put themselves on the line. Why should the substitutes run through a wall for you when the game is basically over when you come on. To publically state what he did tonight is just not right. Imo he is making himself look like a bit of a dickhead and tbh it wouldnt surprise me if he walks soon7

I didn't think it could get worse but have now seen Bowyers comments.
FFS Bowyer. We get rid of the crooks and now you are bringing an unwanted level of attention for the club with your interpersonal skills.8 -

Woaaaaaaaaooooowwwww... Bows lost it, how can you scapegoat Maddisson!?!?
Tonight shows its never personal with him
I've seen performances like tonight where the players would be jeered off the pitch with chants of: "Your not fit to wear the shirt" - But its only ever the Managers fault on here
Do you seriously think the players in that dressing room want or need to be slated live on air, and if when they hear it they'll be well up for the next game?
He picks the team, the tactics, the formation, yet blames everyone else when it goes wrong. He chops and changes from one game to the next, couldn't tell you his best team or formation and we're in January. In addition i don't think i've ever known a manager make so many subs at half time which suggests he doesn't trust who he starts with.
Not once have i ever heard him say 'i pick the team, i take full responsibility'. We've been a joke for weeks aside from 45 minutes against Wimbledon and i'm sick and tired of him blaming everyone else.
But when does a Manager ever come out and do that, I cant ever recall a Manager at any level taking the responsibility for a defeat
If anything you're right it is one of the infuriating things about them at times because its always someone elses fault, on this occasion (same with recent weeks) I feel it is!!

Please be a little more respectful though, I've not lost the plot!! - I just happen to have a different view
It's not about having respect or a different view, it's about you making stuff up to try and fit your narrative - and that's completely wrong. Especially when our manager has come out today and claimed he does not care if a player is injured or not.7 -

Bowyer is clueless re his team selection as the team changes indicate - it's not all down to injuries. It's just becoming embarrassing.
His post match interviews give nobody any confidence.
Whatever the shortcomings of our players they can surely do better than this? We're not far off getting to the stage of writing this season off.
Not enjoyable to watch...3 -

Wonder if it ten years time we'll look back at tonight's starting eleven and think of them in the same conversation as Llera, Fry, Semedo, McCormack, Parrett and Nouble...
Big Frank scored a header i think? Lots of banter with Roberts and our fans were fighting themselves and the coach got lost!
But it was a nice sunny day out
Lovely times

Calling out pretty much your entire team is surely not the way to go about turning a bad run around. By all means slaughter them in private, but don't do it on tv. If i was one of his players i'd be thinking 'fuck you'.
It's clear he doesn't rate Williams or Maddison but i think he's got that wrong. They are creative players who are there to create something. They're not there to steam into 50-50s and win you the ball, in the same way that Pearce and Watson are not there to whip balls into the box for a striker.
The fact is we've got 10 points from 10 games and as the stat on sky said tonight, we chop and change lineups more than any other side. So for how much longer can he go on blaming the players before he runs out of scapegoats?9 -
Just supped a bottle of beer brewed by Oakhams called Bishops Farewell.
Seemed appropriate given tonight's events in a masochistic kind of way.
Sad to say it but only one team deserved to win that match and it wasn't us.1 -

Looks like you are one of the few people on this board who lives in the real world.
That's normally the attitude I have; I certainly did when Parky was in charge. Regardless of whether a manager picks a wrong team, chooses wrong tactics, or stuffs up the subs, it's the players who miss tackles, concede penalties, can't pass the ball to a team-mate 10 yards away, fail to score open goals etc.; you can't pin those mistakes on the boss.
But when the manager effectively issues a declaration of war on his own players you know there's trouble.
There's only ever one winner.
And it ain't the manager.6 -

Bowyer still thinks he's playing fm2018. You can't keep hammering the aggressive responses in fm2021, gotta move with the times...4

I'll ask a question, can someone answer it.
Who tried to sign Marcus Maddison for 2 transfer windows, even traveled to Peterborough to speak to him, knowing we were under an embargo. Then signed him once he was out of contract?
Would that be the same person that publicly begged Williams to sign in the summer of 2019?
Did he not know they weren't a pair of David Batty's?34 -

However, after this evenings post-match interview I think the manager has had enough.
He hasn't just thrown a player or two under the bus, he's put on full Rambo outfit, lobbed a couple of smoke grenades into the dressing room and started spraying bullets everywhere.
There can't be a player left in that squad who'd want to run through brick walls for the boss.
It's a sad day for the Charlton Athletic Football Club.
Welcome to Danish Dan the next manager of Charlton some no mark that fans can get behind for a year.0 -

Wasnt sure who he was calling out in first interview about jumping out of tackles, I was adament it was Maatsen as in my opinion hes been doing it for weeks.5

Take no notice 1968, most of the posters on here believe that only they have a divine right to an opinion, write what you want and take pleasure in the fact that you are annoying the soppy little pratts.5
