Post-match Thread : Charlton Athletic v Northampton Town | Tues 9 March 2021

Another clean sheet One goal conceded in the death throes of the match meant a bumpy landing, but three points nonetheless and a decent performance at home. Three points!

Over to you.

Scrappy win but will take them every week until the end of the season. Northampton were dreadful.

  • Apart from the last 5 minutes a rare game I'd say we full value for those 3 points.

Northampton were not great, but most of the teams we play are not great, but that was the most comfortable I've felt watching us in a long time.
  • Great 3 points, well pleased with that.

Dogged, committed performance throughout the team.  Well done Bowyer and the lads.

1 point outside the top 6. Let's build on this.

Finally. 3 points at The Valley. Thank feck for that.
  • Hanging on the edge of the Play Offs....we are clearly nowhere near the team that went up via them in 2018/19 but you have to be in ‘em to win ‘em.

Shame we conceded the late goal but a win is a win and we are at least keeping our season alive for a few more weeks.

  • Great to finally win at home, we deserved it as it felt that Northampton came to get a point

Dont agree with the penalty decision but could argue that its deserved after the second Blackpool one that got given, along with other moments that have gone against us of late at times.

Washington continues to really play for the team with his work rate and deserved his two goals tonight, whilst we werent brilliant with our build up play today I felt the second was at the end of a very nice passage of play.

Shame we couldnt keep a third clean sheet as that would have done wonders for us

Shrewsbury on Saturday will be VERY tough given their form!!

    Think we looked comfortable throughout.

The only reason my arse was hanging out it because we are Charlton.

Let’s here it for those TACTICS

Thought we played well and bar their goal and 1 shot first half we stopped them creating anything at all.

We looked better second half once Millar moved to the left so hope he plays there on Saturday.

An overdue good performance from Watson. Chuks was good once he came on and Washington deserved his 2 goals.

Feeling reasonably good about the rest of the season for the first time in months, hopefully Inniss and Famewo see out the rest of the season and we finish top 6.

Turgid rubbish. Zero quality.  Dodgy penalty made the difference.

How many shots did we have on goal ?

Good to get three points but we won't beat anyone decent based on that.

Chuks and JFC are doing alright.

Minto mentions the curly finger to Fortune as Washington comes to do the interview

Washington has a proper expression wondering what the hell they're on about

It's not exactly glamorous and hardly inspiring stuff but hey 7 points from 3 games is not to be laughed at after the run we were on.
Still not out of the woods as we hardly look imperious and dominant but we've played better and lost so I will take it.

Washington saying that Bow is very demanding but it's helped push him on and he's feeling the benefits of that now.
  • We're not as bad as we were!
  • Nice to hear Washington talking. Comes over as a really nice guy.

    Washington on VP:

”We’ll take that all day. Disappointing to concede late though. We’ll build on this”
”Gaffer has been critical of me. And it was deserved”
”Felt for Ronnie on Saturday. No negatives for me today. It’s a free shot at goal”
”As a striker you want as many shots as possible. Nice to get on scoresheet”
”Manager wants us to be moving all the time. He’s really demanding, but I’ve learnt a lot from him since been here”
“We had to win. If we want to do anything this season we had to pick up points and next 2 home games. Play offs is still on”
”Close to 10. I want more. Want to be the main man”

Proves that if you maintain shape and get our players behind the ball quickly when we lose it, most sides in this division do not have the quality to break us down. Even early season we weren't prolific in front of goal but we have to be patient.

At least we're safe from relegation... As for the play offs.... I think that is a bit thin to say the least. On another note absolutely chuffed for Washington.
