Just looked at the England fixture list for this summer.
No Test matches during July AT ALL.........and we only have TWO in June, the last one finishing 5 days before the summer solstice. However in July we do have 5 one-dayers & 3 20/20 matches though - which is useful as 40 overs must be a bind to get in during 15 hours of daylight !!!. This is during the height of summer.
But then we do have a 5 match Test series against India starting in August, with 2 of them in September. The last one starting on the 10th, therefore likely to finish slap bang in the middle of the month.
How come we now don't play Test matches during summer, when the days are longer & (usually) the weather in better, but in Autumn.
Bonkers. absolutely bonkers.
Is that a tournament that takes place during the whole of July..?4 -
Golfie you are right it is totally bonkers and not what the cricket going public want either. It can't even be a financial decision. A 5 day test match, which are nearly always sold out for at least 4 days, must raise more money than a one dayer.0

As it is, in July, we will have to satisfy ourselves with just eight England men's international matches, four women's internationals, 39 Vitaly Blast matches, sixteen county championship matches, 30 Royal London Cup matches, eight domestic women's T20 internationals and the first 26 matches in the The Hundred.
I know that isn't enough for everyone's delectation, but the players have to have some time off.0 -

But a lot of the England Test team don't play the one-dayers, or the 20-20's. Or don't play for their counties. But of course, they play in the IPL (where Stokes got injured) instead of taking a break then.
silly me for thinking that playing Test matches, for England, in an English summer (like between June & August) should be the priority. And if the Test "final" was scheduled in England, in the summer, then the ICC are also partly to blame or the ECB for not standing up to them.
Don't worry, as i expect the youngsters we expect to attract to be the players of the future will have something better to do once they break up from school IN JULY.

NZ likely to rotate players for the 2nd test starting tomorrow, ahead of the WTC final against India the following week. Williamson unlikely to play.0

The bad news for England - Trent Boult is likely to play
Let's see how many ducks we can make this time...3 -

Despite the changes NZ slide looks a lot better balanced than ours.0
-
New Zealand do a Bowyer and change 6 players! Nice to see Matt Henry play.
Will Young is in the Kiwi side. I imagine that when he sees a wide delivery, he thinks to himself I think I'd better leave right now

Crawley with zero foot work. Terrible0

Crawley fails again, another nick to slips0

Crawley's confidence looks shot, I'd leave him out of next game in all honesty, unless he scores big in 2nd innings.1
-
That’s the end of Crawley England career ….6

Mewnt to post this at lunch but didn't press sned.
That's what this opening partnership is here for. Win the toss and bat on a decent pitch but with overcast conditions for the first hour and a half. See off the strong opening bowlers an set the game up for the middle order to cash in against the weaker back up bowlers.
Shame Crawley couldn't back it up.

Not that long ago people were calling for Burns to be dropped.
Then they were calling for Sibley and now Crawley.
The sad truth is that they are probably the best three we have at the top of the order.1 -
Now Root goes cheaply, cloud is heavier after lunch and bowlers are using it to their advantage.0

Pope and get Buttler back in.0 -
Crawley effectively just resigned
That level of simply not bothering to do one's job properly can't be tolerated
At least the captain will lead by example...
oh wait
nope
he doesn't give a hint of a shit either...

That could be time for him to get back into some sort of form.
If not then move Root up to 3 and Stokes at 5 with Pope to 4, just an initial thought. However with 7 weeks till the India game the selectors should have time to look at options.1 -
