Something nice happened today

As a counter-point to a recently-closed thread about shenanigans and fisticuffs in Greenwich, and as a reminder that nice things happen everywhere, but aren't reported on, I thought I would start a thread to post about trivial and surprisingly enjoyable things that might happen to each of us. The world really is a good place.
What nice thing happened to you today that you would like to share?

I had a day trip to Coal Drops Yard by Kings Cross and was mightily impressed by the design and calibre of nearly every offering. Lots of pleasant interactions and smiles.3

Today, I had an impromptu picnic in the park. I went for a walk at lunchtime, but, as it was really warm, I nipped into a sandwich shop and bought a beautiful sun-blushed tomato and mozzarella panini and ate it in the park in the warm, windless, glorious summer sunshine.9

It's my daughter's first proper day of her summer holiday and although I'm WFH am stupidly busy. She's arranged to meet up with friends during the week but today it's just me at home with her. Looked after herself most of the day, brought me up a cup of tea mid morning and made luch for me.12

Found a really good ‘scene’ online….16

Easy win for the day.Covered_End_Lad said:My son said "Love you daddy" for the first time.
My son was wandering around earlier shouting "Dag" every few seconds...
I thought oh god he's a Pikey or a Daggers fan...
He then saw me and waddled over excitedly saying it over and over before hugging me... Heart melter as I realised he was desperately looking for me, not the Mrs or my daughter he just wanted to see me.11 -
Our sons gone from non verbal late April (2 yrs 3 months old), to now knowing 1-20, A-Z, upto 100 words and the last week saying Mummy/Daddy. Buzzing, doesn't quite do it justice.53

My eldest son is 21 today , spent a lovely day with him , my other son and my wife , sitting in a pub garden , enjoying the good weather and cold beers .13

I finished making this table which considering I’ve not tried to make anything out of wood since I was twelve when I made a bird table I’m actually pretty chuffed at how it’s turned out.

What a lovely thread, just being alive on such a beautiful day will have to do from me.

It doesn't get better than that, does it?Covered_End_Lad said:My son said "Love you daddy" for the first time.
I was lucky that my toddler said Daddy fairly quickly. Its taken her another 13 months to say Mummy. That's gone down well in our household as you can imagine.
Right good things happening in my life...
My eldest got a brilliant Year 10 report on Friday and as long as she maintains the same effort through Year 11, she should do well in her GCSEs. When the Head of Year writes that she's an exemplary student, you begin to wonder who the real Dad is. Clearly gets her brains from her Mum.
Oh and HMRC sent me a nice letter on Friday, saying I overpaid tax last financial year and I'm getting a rebate. Nice little bonus which I didn't know I had coming

Our daughter has Autism and until she was around 4 didn’t particularly engage with much, to the point we were concerned she wouldn’t feed/drink much either.shine166 said:Our sons gone from non verbal late April (2 yrs 3 months old), to now knowing 1-20, A-Z, upto 100 words and the last week saying Mummy/Daddy. when she started school it was like lightning a rocket, couldn’t keep her down and today is her last day at Primary school, she’s going onto one of the top Grammars in England after smashing her 11+.This morning she told me I am a “great Dad, just like Grandad was”: my dad passed away on Friday and it’s his fault I support Charlton as he used to take me to every home game since I was 5.40 -
My daughter is coming home after an operation today that could have gone wrong, My mate who's a plumber is sorting out a leak we have got in my kitchen before we go "down the van" later tonight for a week in the sun. My dog is so alive he's getting on my nerves.

Yesterday my son (in his CAFC PJ’s) decided - having never even tried riding a bike without stabilisers before - to pick up his little sisters and ‘have a go’ jammy fucker literally nailed it first time, I genuinely couldn’t believe it…no sprinting behind him in the park for hours etc. Never really shown any interest, just basically said ‘can I have a go’ and off he went. Within 30 mins he was shooting up and down our cul-de-sac - was hilarious

Nice lunchtime walk on the sand (tide out in Bexhill) with Mrs Ashers - perk of still working from home. Our daughter is also picking up a GSD puppy around now with her other half and will meet him at the weekend.5

Saved a dehydrated hedgehog this afternoon. It visited the pond for water and then collapsed. My other half moved it away from the edge, put down some food and fresh water. 1 hour later he was trundling about. Happy hog, happy household! 😊
