Adil Rashid has backed up the allegations against Michael Vaughan0 -
That’s Vaughan’s career as a broadcaster finished, unless gb news decide to make a sports channel. Could’ve probably found a way back but his stonewall “I didn’t say anything racist ever” doesn’t hold up. We can’t control what happened in the past, but we can own up to it and learn from it.killerandflash said:https://www.thecricketer.com/Topics/countycricket/adil_rashid_corroborates_azeem_rafiqs_claims_against_michael_vaughan.html

And in a sport dominated financially by India, allegations of racist comments against South Asians won't exactly help him get future work abroad either...kentaddick said:

I well remember a comment from Colin Cowdrey about the 1963 series v Windies in England. Cowdrey said that the most difficult thing he had to do when batting, was to shut out the constant chanting from Joe Solomon who was permanently posted at short leg .. the chant ? .. Big Fat White C*** , this, over and over and over, over after over .. how things change .., I'll leave you to guess the word hidden behind the C***1

Was Colin Cowdrey Known for having a big fat white cock?0 -
He was known for being a racist - look at his despicable treatment of basil d’oliveira1

Doesn't have much of a leg to stand on now. If it was just him and Rafiq, then it's just one persons word against another, but Rafiq has 2 others backing up his allegation.kentaddick said:

Goodbye Michael.1 -
Some historical racist comments being unearthed in Essex with a resignation if the chair. New chief executive John Stephenson is saying the right things. New report today that a cricketer was racially abused in 2001. Shame he couldn't speak up until now but hopefully can clear the air. Essex are a pretty multiracial team, at least historically, so this was a bit of a surprise0

Also the fact that Rashid is a world class white ball spinner who’d walk into most IPL sides pours cold water on the idea the other players are looking for a final pay day.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

That period of time coincides with a serious downturn in black British cricketers coming through. Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot more going to come out, as moeen Ali says.oohaahmortimer said:0 -
Harsh to suggest the late Colin Cowdrey was a racist because of Basil D'Oliveira. The decision was not made by Cowdrey alone but the selectors as a whole. One could suggest that Cowdrey was weak in not backing Dolly more for selection than he did but weakness does not make a racist.kentaddick said:He was known for being a racist - look at his despicable treatment of basil d’oliveira4 -

anyone keeping up with rafiq's evidence? Devastating and disgusting what he had to go through3

I'd like to say I'm shocked... but I'm not surprised sadlykentaddick said:anyone keeping up with rafiq's evidence? Devastating and disgusting what he had to go through0 -
I am genuinely very impressed that he's managed to speak about it so clearly and with composure, though this does not at all excuse the fact that it should never have happened for him to speak about.kentaddick said:anyone keeping up with rafiq's evidence? Rafiq's treatment has been undefendable.0

looks like morgan was absolutely right to drop hales like he did at the first opportunity. Really, really bad.0

I was listening to it on Talksport.
With the Alex Hales / Ballance thing, where did the 'Kevin' reference come from? Was that something to do with Pietersen?
I understood Hales called his dog Kevin, because it was black. But obviously I've missed the link between.0 -
It's been grim reading. And quite sad when you see some of the names involved.
It's the sort of thing, which if it happened in the 70s you could sort of excuse it as being part of the "older generation" or "culture of the time", but this has been happening in the last 4 years.0 -

Watched, not that unsurprised, the news coverage of the sad testimony from Rafiq. I dare not say more on this thread as I would be accused of derailing it.1

Edit - this appears to have been deleted now probably because Rafiq's witness statement actually has his home address contained therein0 -
From the Guardian. The man has more interest in promoting and profiting from his pet project than anything else that is going on in the game:
There was a startling point of contrast later in the day as the chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board, Tom Harrison, gave evidence and produced a wretched show of prevarication, flannel and non-speak buzzwords. Truth? Meet bluster. Corporate evasion? Meet the real-life consequences of your inactions. Quite how Harrison managed to avoid walking into that room already penitent, pleading forgiveness for the harm that has continued to flourish during his own regulation of the summer sport, is the acme of shamelessness.

just been watching it on sky sports news. Not a good look for a lot of people.Expect to see lots of denials in next day or so.0

There are several excellent articles in the Guardian. I found this one truly compelling in describing the game of cricket and the society in which we live
