You have to say that with Arter, Watson, Kirk, Schwartz, Souare and to an extent Matthews our recruitment has been expensive and fairly poor.
Certainly well under performing the budget for a few transfer windows. So the question would be why? Insufficient scouts? Poor judgement? I know not all transfers come off but these are likely amongst our bigger ones from an income commitment perspective I would think.1 -

They may be right, of course. But I don't believe Jacko and his coaching team are ready to surrender this season just yet - although no doubt they realise it's a tough ask. We have a very decent team for this level, providing we can field our best XI every game. But if one or more key players are missing, that's when we struggle.
This transfer window, that surely is the issue that will be addressed?
I just wanted to say that some people have been very quick to already surrender this season at the half way point ...... but perhaps they are not listening to what the manager is actually saying?
Jacko himself has acknowledged that it's a tough task - but it's evident that, despite the points gap, as it stands the playoffs are still the management team target.
We've got a decent first choice XI. I reckon any transfer business will address strengthening that.
We don't need a rebuild now or in the summer.
But we do need to strengthen what we already have.
Without spending too much money, there's bound to be some wheeling and dealing. And some squad players will surely move on to make room for a couple of younger or upgrade players?

And to be fair, Pearce has been very good this season, and I had 100% written him off after his appalling displays last season. So hands up from me on that one.ElliotCAFC said:

Agree Pearce has been a great player for us and is still doing a job. But I also agree on signing older players is a bad thing we should be building a squad that will grow with the club. I would also add that we should stop hanging onto players from our academy that plainly are not good enough the sentiment does them or the club any favours2

A well run club is not a club buying/signing players over the age of 30.
The last time it worked out is Pratley. Even he was a limited player surrounded by much better younger players.
Since then we've tried:
Hemed, Ledley, McGeady, Gunter, Watson, Schwartz, Shinnie, Souare, Henderson and Arter.

Fair enough. To be fair, I'm not massive on Marquis but I also think we need to be realistic about where we are. And to be honest, Stockley and Washington are a decent partnership, we're just looking for one or two that can come in and compete because we are half the side without either of them. Marquis is no superstar but no absolute donkey either.king addick said:

Leaving Pearce out of this at the moment, it can work and has for us in the past, Harry Cripps, Terry Naylor. I know that everyone wants players for the future but I believe we have them and will soon be knocking on the first team door. I don't think that Jacko and his team have wrote this season off and if we were to win the next two league games we are back to requiring two points a game, which everyone thought was possible before Plymouth and Wycombe.0 -

He is not a promotion chasing CB anymore and hasn't been since we got relegated from the Championship.1 -
There are 18 year olds out there that would improve us. There are 35 year olds out there that would improve us. There are players of every age in between from the "super league" clubs to the dog and duck second 11. The trick is finding the RIGHT ones for us.
All this talk of going on journeys is bollocks while we are midtable in league 1. Powell signed a mixture of gambles, proven league 1 performers, old hands, steddy Eddie's. Some worked , some didn't, some push on to the championship, some didn't.
There is no magic formula but you need balance and we don't have the right balance.21 -
I think 2011-12, you would've been able to pick holes in about half of the transfers we made... Hayes, Taylor, Sullivan, Hughes, Euell, Kermorgant, Clarke, Cort, Haynes... all on the older side and/or injury prone.SELR_addicks said:
