    I suppose Boro's logic is that spending a fortune on wages for 6 month loans is a far smaller gamble than spending £10m on a transfer fee.

    Exactly. They’ll offload Uche Ikpeazu for more than that loan costs.

    Brighton have signed Poland midfielder Kacper Kozlowski, who last summer became the youngest player to play at a European Championship. The 18-year-old has joined from Pogon Szczecin for £8m on a contract to June 2026 but will go straight on loan to the Belgian club Royale Union St-Gilloise.

    Kozlowski made history when, aged 17 years and 246 days, he came on for Poland against Spain at Euro 2020, breaking a record set less than a week earlier by England’s Jude Bellingham.

    It's more mental that they've also paid his agent a 'large fee'. As if the 42k a week for a 20 year old unproven kid isn't enough.

    Not technically a January signing as he signed 2 months ago, but Dani Alves has returned to Barcelona and they were only able to register him this week.

    He is earning €155k a YEAR, the lowest possible salary permitted by La Liga’s collective bargaining agreement but agreed to it as he was desperate to play for them again.

    Well yes it's still a lot to the average man in the street but he's earning less than some players at Wrexham! Not that he needs the money of course after 20 years at the top of the game.

    £2m spent by Sandgaard in League One could equally be considered silly money by the majority of clubs at this level

    But that in its self is a conscious choice.  Championship clubs basically have 3 options.  Try not to lose anything and ultimately your get relegated sooner or later.  Spend a bit more and be lower mid table or shoot for the moon. 

    At the end of the day, with all the clubs, anything above zero is the owners, not the clubs, money.

    Agreed, but regardless of whose money it is, the point I was making is that having to/choosing to pay that sort of money is crazy.  For want of a better analogy, but we do love a house buying one on here, if I want to/choose to live in London and the South East, I think it’s crazy to have to pay the sorts of prices the inflated property market asks me to, but I will have to.

    I don’t care for how Gibson decides to spend his money, I just think it’s an obscene amount of money

    No doubt we will "have a budget".
    We will at some point secure some much needed acquisitions, hopefully of sufficient quality and in the right areas.
    I don't expect to be excited by any of them, just as don't expect us to blow league one out of the water at any time. At all.
    We will be strengthened and we will be competitive and Jacko will see we give it a good go

    On the flip side of that though, if they bought a striker for say 3m on a 3 year deal and gave him 15k a week it would cost them over 5m.

    At least this way they're 'only' spending 1m.

    Yep, has been for years, hasn't stopped them recently buying two other 'sister' clubs

    They've been in the league 7 years, they're an established league 1 team, unlike say Morecambe.

    They've been in the league 7 years, they're an established league 1 team, unlike say Morecambe. 
    they might be 'established' by your definition but a t m they are in a precarious position .. a £Million will allow Fleetwood to buy a couple of good lower league players to get themselves out of trouble, IF the owner is prepared to spend it or a portion of it ..

    This is Morecambe's first L1 season and their highest ever spot in the pyramid, their position is also precarious .. selling Stockton, their star, to allow for all round team strengthening might be their only way out .. could be that there are too many west coast minnows for them all to survive EDIT .. prosper (see AFC Fylde's recent history as well)

    Are you sure about that bit, @Swisdom ?. They are all certainly with the same agency, "Elite Management" but I learnt a few weeks ago, and posted, that the agent concerned  was one Dominic Yardley. I say "was" because unfortunately he committed suicide in December. Which is not anything I wish on even Willie McKay.

    Anyway I rather doubt that an agent has a big role in whom Chelsea let their youngsters out to. As I've mentioned many times, they have a big internal team that supervises the development of  their 200 plus such players.

    Only Michael Smith has scored more for them.

    Presume he'll be off to the Championship, but wouldnt say no if we brought him in
