Fair play to him though, he's been a tremendous servant to the club.
Thank you for your years of service to the club, Chris. You will leave big boots to fill. I hope you have a long and happy retirement.7 -
Enjoy your retirement Chris, well deserved.0

To whom it concerns,
Christopher Parkes has been Club Secretary at Cafc for 34 years and has never been late, or complained when asked to stay late on the last day of the transfer window when we need to get important paper work to the EFL on our ancient fax machine so we can sell a player or two to balance the books.
CP as he is known, but not SCP, will always go the extra mile, especially when he had to work at Selhurst park in a porta cabin when he first joined in 1988.
Chris is a loyal employee and his lovely wife Sue, AKA vol-au-vent Queen, has kept out of the politics and survived the odious Matt Southall who stank the place out.
Chris Parkes book will be in the club shop in the spring, entitled :
34 years, you get less for murder.
Wishing the silver fox, a very happy retirement and many more years supporting Charlton.

Enjoy every minute.
Well deserved.
May it be a long & happy one.
Thank you for everything ♥️2 -
This has caused havoc on the Vol au Vents futures exchange3

All those years spent keeping quiet about the goings on back stage…….he has never once spilled the beans on any negative matter that might be of concern to the club. Try as one may (and many did), you could never get so much as a whiff of scandal out of him, he had a very classy and much practised way of side stepping controversy.
Known as Mr Charlton at The EFL and FA as well as very highly thought of and respected by back room staff and directors at hosts of clubs throughout the country.
As has been said already, he could write a book on his journey with the Addicks…….now what an interesting read that would be!
He’ll be delighted with the ambassador role…..a role well deserved one has to say.
Have a happy retirement mate…..you deserve it.7 -
Happy Retirement to you Chris, enjoy, well deserved, thanks for all you have done for the best interests of Cafc,I’m sure your input will still be required along the way…& i am certain it will never be a problem for you either…1

Fantastic service from Chris Parkes for all these years, we owe him a debt of gratitude and I would love to see some sort of permanent commemorative gesture made towards him at The Valley for all those years of service.
After experiencing the highs of 1997-2006 under the great SAC Chris must have found parts of the 2013-2021 period extremely hard to take under the Spivs, Roland and the badly northern twat with a penchant for large chested women.
Still, he pressed on with the job as best he could, even when things were at their absolute worst, and for that we owe him our thanks and deep gratitude.6 -
Congrats.... write your memoirs... it would be an interesting read.0

His mum was getting openly slagged off, mocked and derided (regardless of the fact her views were wrong). I imagine most sons with half a backbone would stick up for their mothers in that situation.
Awful chapter that whole thing was.

I should imagine that it will be difficult to fill his shoes, he must have such a wealth of knowledge.

Chris is a very good and honest man - devoted his working career since the 80’s to Charlton Athletic - he is also a fan - to be a club secretary of an English Football League club is a niche job - it’s a minefield, especially if you have to deal with the joke outfit that is the EFL - I certainly could not apply to replace him - I would have no clue whatsoever what the job entails
To those who have posted mickey taking posts - you are way off the mark - cut him in half and - like a stick of rock - it says ‘Charlton Athletic’
End of13 -
Excellent servant. Thank you Chris for all your hard work.0
