So much for Bide and Bozo's strong talk.4 -
As is pointed out above, 'Abramovich's loans are reported to total £1.514 billion'. Loans. I wonder what they are secured against, if anything. I guess these loans are factored into the price.
This whole thing is horrible in ways imaginable and unimageable but if it results in those west London tossers choking on their designer burgers, some tiny good will have been achieved.7 -

Abramovich is selling Chelsea.
Sale proceeds to go to victims of the war in Ukraine.
£1.5B of loans he made to Chelsea not to be repaid.1 -
Will he come out and criticise Putin for his actions, I bet he won't go that far. Still need to freeze any other assets he holds in the UK., before he sells them.2
-
He actually calls it the war in Ukraine which is pretty remarkable.7
-
To be honest the fact that he's donating to the victims of Putin's invasion seems to distance him from Putin's actions quite a bit8

The fact he can wipe £3bn off his net worth just points to how disgustingly wealthy he is.
He's just future proofing his future UK investments, or safeguarding the ones he already has.
"Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated." - He's not donating the money to charity, he's letting his own foundation help out with the rebuilding of Ukraine after the war. Anyone that knows anything about countries rebuilding after wars means that Roman is putting his tentacles all over Ukraine no matter who comes out on top.4 -
Never realised how young Roman was when he purchased Chelsea in the first place.1
-
He's trying to make himself look the good guy, which was the whole reason he bought Chelsea in the first place. I question where he originally got that money from. Did he really earn it, or did he con the Russian public out of it? Giving his own money away is pretty laudable. Giving someone else's money away to save his own skin is about as scummy as it gets. I have my hunches. If he genuinely got it by fair means then fair play to him, but I want his assets frozen and a thorough investigation into how he came by that money before he gets any plaudits from me. It should go without saying, that such an investigation should have taken place years ago when the trail was fresh and when the circumstances weren't so desperate. Unfortunately, those in power run our country for their own ends not ours, this is why the UK has become a no-questions-asked haven for anyone with a big bag of cash to invest/launder.19

ME14addick said:How are we not freezing the assets of all Russians in this country with known links to the Kremlin? It is despicable that this is not being done and giving them time to move their assets is madness. There are Russians with assets in this country who are being sanctioned in other countries, we must ask why the same isn't being done here.2

Seems the majority are young blokes who have been fed bullshit and think they're doing their service to their country16 -
The social media love in for old Roman is pretty funny. Surely such a decent man who has made his money honestly and with no ties to Putin should have no fear of sanctions so why sell Chelsea.
Massive damage limitation exercise and whilst it doesnt look like it will happen I hope he gets the arse sanctioned off him.6 -
He'll probably end up owning Maccabi Tel Aviv before the years out.1
-
Getting a bit fed up with the Abramovic love fest on Social Media.
If he's such a good guy, why is he so scared of being sanctioned & having the source of his wealth looked into????
I have my doubts about where his wealth actually came from4 -
What does just wiping £1.5 billion of debt do to financial fair play?1
-
Glad he’s selling now sanction the hell out of him1
-
Highlights exactly what Chelsea’s success has been funded by, sickening.1

Or he’s desperately trying to avoid sanctions and is cutting and running - I look forward to seeing the detailed breakdown of how he donates all £3 - £4 billion to Ukraine once his old pal has pounded it to dust.
An absolute charade and a disgrace!
Why is the government being so slow to act ?
7 -
Because the government has a lot of Russian donors4
