I'm not even sure white ball captaincy skills are that transferable to Test matches anyway, as the games have diverged so much.3 -

If anything Billings might be a decent option as England white ball captain. Proven success with Kent and good with the media side.0
-
Rob Key expected to be named England Men's Director of Cricket.
Edit - Now officially named DOC2 -
Congratulations to Key, I think it is a good appointment, very well respected in the world of cricket, and has some great relationships around the world for his work with Sky.
Looks like they may go down the path of 2 coaches for White & Red ball cricket.. With that being said, could they appoint Morgan as a player coach?2 -
Another ton for Buttler in the IPL. Surely it's time to call time on the Ed Smith gamble, and let Buttler concentrate on becoming the best T20 player in the world, and England white ball captain.0
-
...and another ton for Buttler 116 off of 650
-
Outrageously great spell from Malik in the IPL. Might not even win the game, but incredible bowling0
-
England have confirmed they are advertising for separate coaches for tests & limited over cricket2
-
Malik completely betrayed by his teammates. Makes for an incredible scorecard though0

Ben Stokes set to be appointed test captain.
I guess he was the only viable option really0 -

Stokes named Captain of Test team0

What's your team for the first test of summer?
Lees
Tom Haines
Root
Harry Brook
Stokes
Bairstow
Foakes
Parkinson
Wood
Broad/Overton
Anderson
Would be my choice.. Give the 2 young batsman a chance, while they are in decent form1 -
Way too early for Brook. Parkinson is a number 11 bat but I'd pick him, sure
Haines
Root (lol deal with it m8)
Bairstow (lol deal with it m8)
Stokes
Lawrence
Crawley (where he can attack from the off)
Foakes
Barker
Robinson
Anderson
Parkinson
Spot the one nobody's mentioned at all

Oh, if Moeen unretires he's straight in for either Crawley or Lawrence, haha0
-
Well, they did it. Going to be interesting to watch how Stokes balances all of this responsibility. Is it time to focus on being a specialist batsman?0

Crawley
Haines
Root
Stokes
Lawrence
Bairstow
Billings
Wood
Parkinson
Broad

Found this interview with Key from back in February interesting. He was still working for Sky at the time & Silverwood had just been sacked. I wonder if Ponting is under consideration, as that's the 1st name he mentions

Moeen would've been a fantastic completely left of field choice. But i can see how that just wasnt an option. Stokes has impressed me every time he's captained and seems to have the backing of the team around him. Root let games slip away from him, hopefully stokes will not let that happen. I think it might be time for him to play as a specialist batsman.. he's already one of our best anyway.
Hopefully he's aggressive in his selection and picks parkinson and others who's show promise on the county circuit. We need a hussain style captaincy where young promising players are given priority around experienced players - thorpe, butcher and gough were the experienced core of a side that gave debuts to vaughan, trescothick, jones, harmison, flintoff, bell etc and we become a hard to beat side. Think we need the same long term thinking and hardiness.0 -
I know I said 'way too early for Brook' but fuck me he's in form0
-
My own call of Keith Barker looking more and more sound each day. He may be 35 (who isn't) but...a bowling allrounder? In imperious form?1
-
I agree with Boycott that they should have given it to Broad on a short term basis, to allow other candidates to come through. He's perfectly fit to play every game, especially as the Test schedule isn't that arduous this year anyway, and unlike Stokes, can rest during the white ball matches
Stokes if anyone is the one with fitness issues recently0 -

Jamie Smith is in great form as well, indeed the averages are insanely high for the end of April (other than at Kent of course)
