Just saw a Facebook post shared by my cousin who lives in Canada. Huge list of schools where there's been a shooting. Looked up a full list on Wikipedia, there are two articles with too many to count, one for 21st century, one 20th and earlier.
They tend to have several every month. Last month without one was July 2021.
Horrendous. And yet so many Americas wouldn't even entertain the idea of just restricting the type of guns that can be easily purchased.

Just seen on the news that the husband of one of the teachers who was killed, suffered a cardiac arrest and died today when visiting her memorial. They leave behind 4 children.0

Saw a few clips on the news earlier. Some woman still spouting the "it's not guns that kill people.. its people who kill people".
Immediately thought of the Monty Python sketch where John Cleese is the army officer training his men how to disarm someone with a piece of fruit. Michael Palin runs at him with a banana & John Cleese pulls our a revolver & shoots him dead.

I can't imagine what these families are going through. It is a grief of a magnitude that is beyond thinking. I pray and hope that political point scoring takes a back seat and everyone really focuses on what makes life worth living for young people in this age. The gun licensing debate needs discussion for sure. As does mental health and a disintegrated society which no longer has family values and faith and the faith community to give our children the very best start and support.

So there is an annual meeting of the NRA this weekend, being held in Houston (in Texas where there is an open carry gun rule). Trump is a guest speaker.
Guess what? Guns are banned.
You couldn't make it up. They won't push to ban guns anywhere else, but they will at their own meetings. This doesn't appear to be a new thing either, they ban them at most of their meetings. Quite ironic if guns are so safe.
Surely they could just hold the meeting at a venue where there is just one door, and have a couple of security guards sat there.......7 -

schools make a nice soft target for a cowardly killer .. I just cannot imagine the rage and hatred running through this teenager's mind as he murdered nineteen infants, two teachers and wounded seventeen more ..
it's not just a question of the ease by which lethal guns can be obtained, though that makes the task of a potential killer that much easier, it's also a question of what drives these young people to such extreme and wanton violent acts .. this latest tragedy was wrought by a teenager against his own community .. There are already two bills in Congress to enhance gun control. Both have passed the House (Dems in favour bar a couple, Repubicans against (bar two). Both are stuck in the Senate.
As someone esle pointed out guns can't be banned entirely without a constitutional amendment. That requires (amongst other things) a two thirds majority of the Senate, whcih is completely impossible.4 -
The right to bear arms is as sensible, appropriate and forward-thinking as the right to arm bears.7
