Had MRI scan on my knee. Haven’t been able to walk very far for a few months, let alone run. It’s improved a bit in the last couple of weeks, so going up and down stairs isn’t quite as bad.Sold both of my road bikes, and bought an electric version which has been brilliant, and has got me out and about again.Waiting for the MRI results, and hoping it’ll reveal something that can be fixed with a minor op, like a meniscus tear. But either way, I doubt I’ll be doing the park run again.

I notice that there's a lot of out and back loops in your course too. I've always preferred to do one big loop if I could than running back down the same road but the other way.
Well done...another couple like that and you can do the tapering!1 -

Earphones have definitely helped, that and not seeing the same places twice will give me another boost on the main day.
Been a great learning process, 12 months ago a 10k run was the dream. Now I smash those out without thinking about it5 -
Saw a couple of Charlton and CACT shirts yesterday during the Big Half.
I somehow knocked off 10 mins off of my half marathon PB with a time of 1hr 43mins which I was delighted with. Not sure where it came from to be honest.11 -

Enjoyed doing the Big Half last year. I was going go to do it but bailed the day before as struggling to get my fitness levels back after an enforced break from running due to injury.0 -
I very rarely go above 12-15km in runs due to a dodgy knee so haven’t attempted in a while to be fair.
Everything held up though so got ahead of the 1.45 pacers at about 8km and stayed there!1 -
I did Bromley PR on Saturday, the summer course is quick but has too much grass for PBs. In winter it's all tarmac apparently.
Anyone know please when Parkruns confirm volunteers for a week? I emailed Shorne last Tuesday and haven't heard back. I'm not on their mailing list, if that makes a difference.0 - Sponsored links:

I did The Big Half on Sunday, had never managed this distance before. I did it in about 2:20ish.I had decent preparation up to the final week but a big wedding into the early morning from the day before pretty much killed me off. I'd kidded myself that I wouldn't have much to drink but this ridiculous idea was out the window within about 15 minutes. I woke up on the sunday still half cut and unable to have any breakfast.After going through the start line everyone was just continued going past me and I was like wtf, is everyone an elite here. This had the effect of making me run a lot quicker than I'd anticipated yet I still don't think I passed anyone for at least the first 2 miles.Coming out of the Limehouse Link I think I was overtaken by Garry Nelson, well it looked like him anyway but I didn't call out, I already had no energy to engage and didn't want more embarrassment factor added to my run if it wasn't him.I think I had my first walk at about 5 miles and I continued the way home with a run/walk.. There was a lots of encouragement about, people giving out sweets and things that they'd cooked to help the journey. Then coming over the last little bridge and seeing a big crowd at Greenwich was invigorating and there was no way I wasn't going to run in. I was a great feeling of accomplishment.I saw a couple of injuries on the route, there was one near the end that looked quite serious, I hope everyone was ok.I've signed up for the Royal Parks in October and I certainly won't be drinking so close to the start this time8

Well done @ThreadKiller on your first and for getting round when not in best condition.
Ive only ever done one half, the RuntotheBeat one loads of us did about 13 years ago. I’d had knee surgery earlier that year and think I only got up to 6 or 7 miles in training. Just wasn’t prepared and had to walk quite a few times after 5 miles. Got round with @T_C_E for good company but deep down I was pretty disappointed and always wanted to do one ‘properly’.Unlike then, I run regularly now but just don’t think I’ll ever get up to those distances now.Reckon you’ll smash Royal Parks now. Well done @WSS on the pb. And @ThreadKiller well done on surviving after a different approach to carb loading, I am doing royal parks half too.Working up my long runs now, did 9 miles on Friday and have started training with a local running club too. It was really good to join a few people for a run last week.2

I did my first track session since my late teens/early twenties today. Hard work but absolutely loved it. Not sure my legs will take it but think I could really go for getting back on a track and doing some 800m racing. Maybe a goal for next summer.5

Just knocked over 2 mins off me 5k PB and got 26' 11. First time I've done one in months, only went out for a jog and felt good so gave it beans. Not much use for my marathon though lol.
Another year of regular running and getting in the gym and I reckon 20mins is doable.6 -
Managed my first ever top-15 parkrun finish yesterday by going to an event with just 15 people - Wienburgpark in Münster, Germany. That said, got my fastest time since the pandemic because I was being paced by the tailwalker/runner who wasn’t messing around!
Haga parkrun in Stockholm next weekend, all being well.11 -

I'm with you @AFKABartram - I've gone from either running or volunteering at Danson every week, to nothing for the last 3 months or so.. Am going to be in Yorkshire this weekend tho, so will make an extra special effort and get up and go to Dalby Forest, as it is a bloomin beautiful course...

Not sure it's in keeping with the PR policy of being easily accessable to all though as it felt like it was in the middle of nowhere and you need a car to get there, but it's so picturesque, I didn't mind.1 -
you're quite right @swordfish - it is pretty remote but it is bloomin' beautiful... I've done it 4 or 5 times so far as my in-laws live right near there....definitely not easily accessible but it's the only one for miles around (think there are 3 or 4 in York itself, but that's a good 25 or so miles away..) and most of the locals have cars as public transport up there is spread pretty thin... It is also the course where I have my parkrun PB, so am particularly fond of it, even though I am never getting anywhere near that time again!

Meant to do 20, but got carried away with my pace lol. Pretty sure if I try stick to 10m miles, I should be able to make it round OK. My VO2 has improved dramatically though over the last few months.

Yeah go for that slower speed then any energy saved will be useful at the end.
It should be a few degrees cooler as well on 2/10, when I also have my marathon. That'll increase your capacity, an overcast, cold morning will help everyone out - especially me! I got to 19 miles on Sunday then had to walk.1 -
