I don’t think 6 months coaching at Chelsea is enough for Burstow to be ready to lead the line in league 1. As he had limited academy background I thought they’d have him at Chelsea for this year at least and then loan him next season. I doubt they’d send him to us anyway as he’d be 3rd choice for 1 spot in the team11

Personally we need to aim to finish as high as possible in the league to remain an attractive proposition to young players that could earn their first silverware with us getting promoted next season.2 -
WHAT DO OUR SCOUTS DO FOR A LIVING??????

The difference between Chin or Clayden and Sess or hopefully Edun is massive. Same could be said for JRS compared to Campbell. Or Bonne (who was originally supposed to be loaned) compared to Daniel Kanu. Our players are just not as good now, and I think all of the loan players have more potential for the future. Worst case scenario is if Clare goes on a brilliant run of form, or Egbo comes back and is excellent, you can just not play Kane. But Kane looks like our best "fit" RB at the moment, and again, there is a chance of signing him at the end of the year.2 -
Can't say I see a need to consider resigning him now we have Bonne, but anyone know how young Mason has been getting on at Chelsea? Personally, I thought that was an over promotion for him based on his performances for us but would be interested to know if he's actually standing out in their academy or not.1

That's not a bad return in the U-21s. Based purely on those numbers alone, you can understand why Chelsea feel he might be ready for another loan.

That being said, I don't know that he is what we need. I don't know that he'd get much gametime here. Even if we move Stockley on this window, I'm not convinced that Burstow can play up front on his own. I feel like he played as a wide attacker for our U-23s, so maybe looking to use him wide left cutting in and running in behind would be a potential use? It's not one that makes a lot of sense apart from "we need bodies" and "we know him."

I wouldn't worry about it. Lazy journalism. Easy to just link us to all our old waif & strays.1

Burstow may have improved, he had potential, but based on last season, I hope not. He was far too easy to defend against. It actually looked to me like he was marking the defenders at times. Leaburn battles with them which makes a massive difference.
I think we pulled Chelsea's pant down with that one. My biggest disapointent, and I said it at the time, was that we loaned him back and didn't try to get an oven ready striker back.1 -
Think Burstow should go to Oxford. Would much rather have Jack Marriott.0

So Sess, our only LB, still has an ongoing knee problem...
We really need another option for that position.9 -
We've needed our own, proper left back for about 5 years! Nobody seems to listen!12

I know of a left back we have been monitoring - a proper left back.
I've always said a decent Left Back is so hard to find. Firstly there are relatively few left footed players and secondly it's hard to find a player who loves to defend as a priority. Finding a good one is really difficult. Powell, Minto, Wiggins to name a few but they were proper left-backs. Throw in the fact nowadays they need to be able to attack as well and it's become a difficult role to fill.
That's why I loved Wiggins. He was quick, had a trick or two up his sleeve and he seemed to refuse to let a cross into the box. Such a shame he got so many niggles
We have been looking for a left back since summer but don't appear to have found the right one just yet - but the club have been looking. It doesn't help that you look for a player to fulfil a role and then the club changes manager and therefore what they are looking for. I hope we get one over the lin e soon though as I firmly believe we are still in the playoff race if we can put a bit more of a run together17 -

Wonder if the Kane injury then happened, because he didnt do a full warm up prior, as he didnt expect to start.0 -

This is just a story made up by a Chelsea podcast and I can't people are taking it seriously and then getting their knickers in a twist about how we then "have" to sell to get Burstow in the team.5
