Brief update on the  World Grand prix:

2 are through to the semi finals, Mark Allen beating Lisowski in a decider 5-4
Noppon has beating another former world champ MJW 5-3, so he's beating Selby, Ronnie and Williams now.

Today we have the last 2 quarters and a semi final this eve.

    Murphy v Mcgill
    Trump v Guodong

Tonight Allen v Noppon, the winners of the above play on Saturday night, on ITV3 or 4

The final will be the usual race to 10, 2 sessions, afternoon and evening.
  • Mark Allen beat Judd Trump 10-9, was 7-2 up at the break and a combination of an inspired comeback and Allen looking rattled. However Allen wins his 3rd ranking event of the season (World Grand Prix)

The infamous shooutout starts on Wednesday, i do think the crowd can be a bit over the top but generally there is normally a bit of drama and shocks. I've reverted to actually wanting to go one year now, although i am sure that will change come this week lol

Yeah it just seems like the darts crowd turns up for this - dont mind a bit of noise, but sometimes just goes a bit over the top.
  • And in the shootout I am gonna pick Hossein Vafaei

Think he is the one person you definitely wouldn't want to back

Shootout has been going for 12 years and we have had 12 different winners, can't see someone retaining the title(and he has a tough first match v Murphy)

I personally like the shootout I know it gets a bad rep from snooker connoisseurs but for me it makes a nice change, once a year, 4 day tournament.

Would hate it to be any more than that but what it is a once a year thing is good.

What I find weird is Judd Trump doesn't play, he spends all his time atm moaning in press about being restricted on what he can wear and other stuff, they one tournament he doesn't need to wear a tie can wear a t-shirt and trainers, can interact with the crowd and he doesn't turn up for it

    And Vafaei is gone

Still no one can successfully defend the title and wouldn't surprise me to see another first time winner

I watched that match, the first 5/6 mins noone had potted. Hossein got in first and fouled right at the end, should have won... still the stats don't lie and a good shout.

I see your Ken Doherty dancing on twitter, made me laugh.

I watched all of the day one yesterday and bits of the evening, found it quite fun just doing little double ups like £5 bets for when i think there is good value, did ok overall about 4 wins and a loss.

For those who haven't seen it

All the years I have been on twitter and this is my best tweet by far

  • Young Riley Powell (14 years old) Welsh protege, beats favourite Kyren Wilson 41-31, he was behind and brought it back and played a few good long pots and held his nerve, looked tidy and no doubt a great future talent. Practices in the same club as Jackson Page and Mark Williams, really impressed.

Last year must have passed me by, as dont remember him winning at all !!

And the 2 finalists(Wakelin and Lecercq) have never won this event before(or any ranking event actually)

So 13 years 13 different winners

Wakelin won and also took the highest break in the final.

I actually backed Leclerq from round 2/3 for 40/1, only £2.50, but would have been nice given the luck element, but what a break from Wakelin at the end classy
  • German Masters starts tomorrow, best of 9. 32 left at the entry stage, its technically the 4th round and there is 4 byes due to the chinese contingent on bans, including previous top seed Xintong.
  • Jimmy White has become the first player aged 60 or over to reach the last 16 of a ranking event since Eddie Charlton's run at the 1992 British Open.

Former Masters and UK Championship winner White hit five half-century breaks in a 5-1 win over China's Peng Yisong at the German Masters in Berlin.

The six-time World Championship runner-up will next play Jack Lisowski.

  • Stan Moody has just earned a 2 year tour card

You may remember the name from last years shootout, as a 15 year old he beat Lu Ning before losing to Oli Lines.

He just won the WSF final which brings with it a 2 year tour card.

I watched the final and he looked fantastic, definitely a name to watch out for over these 2 years and beyond

I watched it until 4-0, he was brilliant and definitely has it all. Great safety, didn't really leave Liam much chance but wasn't really his day he couldn't get into it. Really impressed me how mature and intelligent he was on the table too, will have a great future!

Not sure how he will do the first two years, i think its all about experience and picking up the odd win would be huge so early in his career, could be a tough school but fingers crossed he can settle and pick up a few wins.
  • What a player that Moody is, how many times does he address the shot and duck left before he cue's. Even Wilsonesque stroking of the cue every time about 10 times.

  • German Masters - Ali Carter beat Tom Ford 10-3 in the final

No Snooker this week, Champions league next week and Welsh Open the following.

The crucible is in sight, not long now. Not sure whether i will have time to do a prediction comp this year @paulie8290 fancy running it if you can or anyone else.

I lied, Champions league snooker is on as we speak. It popped up on my FB so find on there , currently Neil Robertson v Robert Milkins (semi finalist last week)

    Group:
    John Higgins
    Noppon
    Guodong
    Selt
    Gilbert
    Milkins
    Robertson
  • Yesterdays scores:
    Robbo 3-2 Higgins
    Guodong 3-2 Noppon
    Selt 3-0 Milkins
    Gilbert 3-2 Guodong
    Selt 3-1 Noppon
    Robbo 3-0 Gilbert
Guodong 3-1 Higgins (Highest break Guodong141)
    Milkins 3-2 Gilbert
    Higgins 3-2 Noppon
    Guodong 3-1 Robbo
    Robbo 3-0 Milkins
    Selt 3-0 Gilbert

I always like to follow this, however it is a short format so the results can be taken with a pinch of salt. This was being streamed on FB under Champions league snooker if anyone wants to follow.

Top 4 qualify, 5th will play the next day/group.

    Kicks off 11am.
  • Watched the German masters final. No contest really. Ford gave up for the last couple of frames.

Could never get totally into the champions league. Watched many a game where one player doesn't start well and that's it. Surprised no TV network has it other than it being on Facebook though.

I would sort of agree, although changing the format so no draws does help. Higgins needed to win his last game yesterday to get into the 4 place play off, then went on to win beating Selt 3-1 in the final.
    Higgins wins group 5

So we lose Higgins, who progresses. Next group(6) today/tomorrow:
    Guodong, Selt, Robbo & Milkins
Yuelong, Mcgill and Perry join them.

Starts at 11am, on FB/Youtube and most likely betting sites. (Just search Champions league snooker and it will come up)

There have never been draws in the non ranking version of it

It gets so confusing now there are 2 tournaments with the same name they really need to rename one of them

The non ranking version has been running since 2008 originally at Crondon Park in essex which is best of 5

Then during covid they created the new one as a ranking event for all 128 players who wanted to enter as the original one is invite only,  thats the one that is best of 4 with draws

You can pay to watch both tables here

Sorry for lack of updates last week, i was following the Welsh Open and it was quite exciting in terms of the bet victor bonus race and also players who could get into Players this week.

Milkins beat Murphy in the final, to win £80k for the title, following his recent win in Gibraltar. He got a £150,000 for overtaking Ali Carter by winning the title, so it was huge. Really happy for him and he has found a bit of form, Murphy did have a 147 earlier in the tournament but didn't really quite perform in the final. He's also due to make a minimum of £70k + based on tournaments he gets in now for winning the title.

    Yesterday's players Championship rests:
    Joe O'Connor 6-3 Mark Allen
    Ryan Day 6-2 Chris Wakelin

    Todays matches:
    1pm: K Wilson v Yuelong
    1pm: Murphy v Selby
    7pm: Carter v Trump
    7pm: Milkins v Ford

A reminder the players who missed out, Ronnie, Neil Robertson, Higgins, Williams (17th IRRC), Hawkins, Maguire. This event is for the top 16 in the One year ranking list. Ronnie's titles were both non-ranking so don't count
  • meant to post this last week  -Ali Carter re number of pro's / prize money etc

100% this is true, Milkins said going into this event that before his win in Gibraltar its ben the toughest few years for him, in the past he has never really struggled but was in debt and put a lot of pressure on him. Now he has won 2 events and the bonus etc. he is now fortunate, however there are many out of the top 16 who are literally struggling.

Petrov made a good point the other day, whilst the Bet Victor bonus is nice, they could have used the money maybe for an event without the top players which could help, i get why that will never happen and the bonus is clearly an incentive to do well in their sponsored events. But it does make you think, how they can do better when in the past Milkins who has probably been a 16-64 player most of his career and managed, there is more money in the game now so it should be spread around really.
