I will however say that if Mr Lineker knew anything about the rise of Hitler and his mob he wouldn't make the comparison. He owes an apology not to the government but to the memory of all those who suffered at the hands of the Third Reich.
If you think the language of our Government resembles Mein Kampf well....I cant really explain that to you.
Your analogy is as much nonsense as suggesting a Corbyn vctory in the 2019 election would have resulted in Gulags up north and the purging of the Milliband brothers..

The_Organiser said:That’s exactly my point SHG, people here are saying GL only said the language was the same, yes? But imo the implications of GL saying that actually mean much more for the exact reasons you state above. And I think by implying that is where this govt is heading is quite frankly ridiculous, insensitive and irresponsible. In my opinion.
I do however believe he should be free to state his opinions, even if I disagree with them.
But equally, I’m pretty certain that if GL had been speaking from a right wing perspective that the same people on here would have been calling for his head.
Wasn't suspended for them though.8 -

If anyone thinks that the language is all that different, you are wrong. And there are people who do actually think this way, and are the targets of such language.8 -

All the talk of 'we know what he was implying' and the outrage that he compared what is happening in the UK with the Holocaust (which he wasn't) is, with all due respect (and we all know what that euphemism means), completely conflating two issues. He wasn't suspended by the BBC for using insensitive language, he was suspended for allegedly breaching BBC rules on impartiality because he had the temerity as a private citizen, and not in his capacity as the MOTD presenter, to be critical of Government policy.

Spot the difference. Lineker is a freelancer too. Lineker did not express or tweet his views when on air.

It was an observation, not a criticism

The “ moderate “government’s policies are motivated by a desire to stop them drowning in the Channel.
Sending them to Rwanda is the government giving them a free holiday in the sun.
That’s what they mean by “Swamping”.

Likewise, with the presenters that have essentially gone on strike in support of him. Surely that’s breach of contract in anyone’s world. By downing tools, they’ve completely screwed up the beebs programming schedule for the indefinite future. As a licence payer, I’d be very annoyed if they let them get away with it.
As for going on strike? Have the tories actually made the right to protest by witholding your labour illegal yet?
I know they would like to.0 -

I am not aware that anyone on this thread, any other thread, or any other source you care to mention, want the boats to continue.
