The ref and the 2 VAR officials won't be working this weekend. Yes the ref was at fault, but it's VAR's job to overturn the howler. No point having it if they get such easy decisions wrong.0 -

I broadly agree with this, but I don't think referees should be operating the VAR at all. It's not the same job and requires and overlapping, but different skillset. I want expert VAR operators, not referees stuck in a box trying not to upset their mates too much so they don't get the same happen to them next week.Stu_of_Kunming said:

We have millions of hours of football footage. It should be straight-forward to train analysts to look at that footage and make the right decisions.0 -
Give the job to AI, there must be enough machine learning they can do on footage etc to get it to a point where it can tell you what a foul is and isn't0

Every single week there's simple errors owing to the referees themselves clearly not understanding their own job, even with being given all the help in the world.1 -
How is this going to sort the issue... European / ROW Referees look just as crap, if not worse come the Euros and World Cup - The bloke who took charge of England vs France was supposed to be one of the "best" in Brazil for example.Stu_of_Kunming said:

Remember that Aussie bloke who has moved to England when we faced Reading? - He's now a Premier League referee too, or at least he was
The bigger issue for me this season, isnt VAR (Although it showed how controversial it is last night... It'll ALWAYS be controversial) - But the fact that the Premier League has turned down the opportunity to use the automatic Offside system that has worked so well elsewhere up until now, simply because "they're" not happy with the tests0 -

I know, I know but Simon Jordan said on Talksport that in his opinion refs are getting lazy, not fitness wise, but they know they have VAR as a back up so dodge out of making decisions leaving VAR to sort it out. My thoughts exactly. On field refs will always miss things, through being distracted for a split second - there could be 2 players having a bit of a scuffle at the same time which attracts his attention as well - but VAR officials don't have that excuse.Elthamaddick said:on field refs will miss things, might not always be looking directly at the incident or have their view blocked.

So is that a "Arsenal are skint and can't afford his fee right now" deal, and a new way to try and circumvent FFP rules? Or just a fairly normal transaction that has just been worded a bit weirdly0 -

Recurrence of the hamstring injury he suffered in the Champions League Final.
That's going to be a tough one to get over for a 32 year old, both physically and psychologically.
I know they get the best medical treatment but once your hamstring goes, it's always in the back of your mind when you're playing that it could go at anytime again.
I was never the same once my hamstring went and I'm convinced it was connected to other niggling injuries.0 -

I know they're the best team in the world right now, but they can't go from now until De Bruyne returns in early 2024 with their attacking options being Haaland, Alvarez, Grealish, Foden, Bernardo and Palmer.
Obviously any team would want them and they are 5 great players and also Palmer (who is not at that level yet though) but 6 players for 4-5 places when they're competing on all fronts isn't enough depth.0 -

Olise to Chelsea just seems weird , they got rid of Pulisic but still have Madueke, Mudryk , Hudson - Odoi, Ziyech, and Jackson they signed from Villarreal.
Does mean JRS might get a chance at Palace though.1 -
