London Overground - new line names revealed.

Lucky it’s not extending to Charlton as we could have had the Relegation Line.15

Lioness and Liberty are shit names.
Not too bothered about the rest of the names but I do feel it could have been a bit less divisive, it's obviously going to wind people up when it doesn't need to.
Would have liked names like Brunel etc.6 -

Over £100bn and counting so far (30bn for London alone) which massively reduces government revenue, which could have paid for all your thousands of doctors and teachers.
6.3m as a one off cost to TfL is nothing worth moaning about. How did it cost £6m. Hire a company, pay them £2k for a couple of days work, job done0 -

i generally thin khan is a waste of space but am i triggered over the naming of a tube line not really.
all politicians are spineless cnuts in my opinion that sqaunder money on a daily basis
is london a shit hole yes
is there an out of control knife problem and general violence yes
is it all khans fault probably notBoth of these statements are absolute bollocks.London is the greatest city in the world and remarkably safe given its size.
Knife crime is very much out of control otherwise you'd expect children not to be stabbed and often killed on a weekly basis if it were under control.
Can't blame the mayor for that as it's a multitude of problems probably stemming from lack of (decent) male role models and gang culture in inner and increasingly so outer london.
Great city on the whole though.
Anyway don't want to derail (boom boom!) such a wonderfully balanced and non partisan debate lolz.4 -

The reality is, is that did we really need to change the name of these 'lines' when we have been using them for approx 15 years with general ease?1 -
Why can't they name the lines after white blokes?
Yeah, where's the Terry and June line?
I don't think the trans community have been fairly represented here at all
What a waste of money how many homeless ex soldiers that I've never mentioned or cared about before could have been houses with that
Actually it's a tiny amount of money in comparison, they should have spent a lot more on it
...something about suffragettes being fake or something
It's all part of the woke agenda they should have called one of them the woke line woke woke woke
(Insert snide comment about specific geographical design of existing lines, surface nature of some underground stations)
You don't even live here why do you care
Right - round the back of Makro's car park in 2 hours - you can team up if you like and you can bring yer dinner
That about cover it?25 -
The number of lines is going to make the TFL ‘rainbow’ board of status even more busy than it is today!
My serious point being it’s a lot of new names to adopt into your general recognition/awareness.

Always thought the rebranding was necessary considering the current ‘orange’ set up has about 100 stations all over the place. Whether it was a critical issue worth the spend is up for debate. No problem with it representing different pieces of history, but would have preferred names that are a little more linked to location/landmarks without tenuous links that feel a little shoehorned in.Got a lot of time for the Lionesses and their achievement, but if you’re going for a sports/Wembley connection then 1966 or Live Aid are far more significant moments IMO.Does feel as though the options have been selected with political thinking over logic.I’ve actually just moved to the borough of Havering. Didn’t even know it had its own line (of a whopping 3 stops!)8

I will personally find the rebranding useful. When I'm travelling to somewhere unfamiliar in the city, I often discount the overground lines as it all seems a bit complex. Anything that makes it a bit clearer will definitely help me and will surely prove positive to many others.
The names are alright. They wouldn't all be my choice and some seem better than others but there's absolutely nothing for any normal person to take offence at in any of them.
As for the costs, I don't think it's a lot in the wider scheme of things. Sooner or later the old maps would get updated anyway so it won't all be new costs. And if it helps to make the stations and trains look a bit more kempt and cared for that will be a good thing. Six million is enough to look like a lot of money, especially to those who would would like to use if for a spot of mayor bashing, but in the bigger scheme of public finances in general and in terms of the London Overground operation it really is small fry. Everyday 625,000 journeys are made on the Overground lines. The rebranding costs amount to just 10p per journey for a period of 2½ months.
My only hope is that the newly named lines now get included on Metrodle. That will make it more challenging.5 -

Miss your influence here4 -
Cheers. Fell out of love with football in the last few years, and Charlton have tried my patience far too much in the last decade 😂
Find most of my time on here was spent arguing, so stopped bothering!
Hope (most of) you are well... 😏8 -
Great thread, classic CL.
Fwiw I didn't realise there was a London Overground until about 15 years ago, when I discovered you could go to Alexander Palace on the overground, rather only Wood Green on the underground.
It's definitely a good idea to have the underground, overground and DLR all on the same map.

Needed to be done and names could be worse. The money is a lot but probably about what it costs and hardly much compared to other bits and pieces.
Nothing compared to the money wasted on the garden bridge and chairlift no one uses1 -

Thing is, these lines arent new and most of them had pretty good names already before they all got lumped together under the "Overground" heading.
For example, the North London Line, the East London Line or the Lea Valley Line all sound alright to me. At least the name gives you a good idea of where they are.12 -
