I thought our subs were a little too late, I wonder if Jones is really using these final fairly meaningless games to give as many minutes as possible to the players he think will form part of his plans for next season, hence the late subs.
I’d like to give some praise to Daniel Kanu. We created almost nothing for him today, but he didn’t stop chasing down every ball, giving their defence a tough time for the whole time he was on the pitch.

If the pitch cut up, as most did, the grass was never going to fecking grow back again, until it was relaid in the summer.
Players just had to adapt, it was just the way of things.
Yes, it did kill a lot of the free flowing football in the dead of winter.
It was a standing joke as I recall that West Ham's perenial expansive style would fall apart in the mud of winter.
"They fly so high, they reach the sky, then like West Ham they fade and die".
Luton and QPR gave up and introduced "Astro Turf" pitches, plastic shit that you played on in trainers and got "burns" if you slid on it. No wonder both had untouchable home records when other teams only played on them once a season.
The quality and longevity of modern pitches never ceases to amaze me.

Was busy this afternoon so not able to go to the game or watch the stream, but would note that building a successful defence is as much about coaching and teamwork as it is about the individual players. This summer is the time when NJ has to decide his preferred system and defensive combination, and train them to death.

Terrible match on a terrible pitch against a terrible team as expected. All we had to do was not lose and that’s what we did. It wasn’t one to write home about but the fact is we’ve just come through a period where we played three of the teams below us and got 7 points. Two wins to push two of them down and a point to keep the other one on course for the drop. That’s job done across these three games. A few weeks ago we would have been ecstatic with that set of results, let’s enjoy it for what it is instead of reading too much into failing to play well on a potato field17

It was a bad goal to concede and even under Jones we still have a very bad habit of giving away needless goals due to individual errors by one or two players. That much is definitely something that we need to improve next season.
However with that said, while we didn't get the three points to near enough guarantee safety or move us any further away from the bottom four, nor did Fleetwood succeed in making any ground up on us so net result is fairly neutral.
I'm fairly sure that while he talks positively Jones will be under no illusion about the size of the challenge he's facing turning this team into genuine promotion contenders.

That was awful of course but one more serious concern for me..
I am fully signed up to the Nathan Jones renaissance but despite improvements across the pitch our defence still inspires no confidence at all.
Fleetwood were hardly cutting edge up front but we looked like the Keystone Cops at times. Balls bouncing in our penalty area, failure to win second balls and stupid unforced errors nearly caused two own goals. I could feel the panic and terror out here in southern Sri Lanka.
I would like to see Jones back asap and Ness given another run once we're safe.0 -

Why are people a bit down with it , well it might be the fact we currently sit 16th and have only finished below there once (1926) since we joined the football league in 1921 . Pathetic times

we certainly defend the ball a lot better now coming in to our box. All in all, positive signs moving forward1 -
Pretty awful game on a rubbish pitch with a depressingly familiar type of mistake to gift them a goal out of nowhere.We continue to have at least one hapless error in us per game with the players just rotating as to whose turn it is to fuck up next. Dont know what it will take to get the whole team to switch on for the whole game but i hope the answer arrives soon as we must have lost 20 points this season from hapless errors mostly late in the game.1

The pitch no excuse. Other teams have won there which is why Fleetwood are so near the bottom of league. A comparison with another London club thought provoking. Leyton Orient have fewer resources much lower crowds ( even local derby against us on Boxing Day had less than 9000 )yet they are 13 points ahead of us. Perhaps the clever chaps who have been running Charlton could explain that sometime.10

No investment in the pitches from the clubs, poor understanding of the required maintenance and no specialist body to look into pitch science and support those responsible for the upkeep.
I didn't go, but I did watch on the stream and I thought that the biggest problem was excessive bounce, it reminded me of the QPR plastic pitch back in the day. It seemed to me that the pitch was hard and too dry, I would have thought that keeping the ball on the ground as much as possible would have been a better tactic.0 -
I definitely don’t see that as a good point. It’s two points dropped. We got ourselves ahead, dealt with Fleetwood only spell of attacking player straight after the half time whistle. Thing is, we have a lot more quality than Fleetwood and other teams rightly scrabbling around the relegation zone. But not so much more quality that we are able to impose our style of play on them. So we get dragged down to their level. It's why we looked so good at Derby and so crap yesterday.3
