If 400 tickets are sold that would bring in £22,000.
Does VAT come into play? It takes it down to £18,600 if I have calculated that right.
There is venue hire, staff costs and sundries to take into account, if the food is £6 per person that is £2,400. That would leave £16,200 to pay for venue hire and staff costs. If you employ 30 people for 3 hours at an average of just above the London living wage that will come to around £3000.
That takes it down to £13,200 for venue hire. That would presumably include a PA system, and a fee for a host like Scott Minto (£1000?).8 -

What if it wasn’t mandatory for players, or any other ‘guests’, but if anybody chooses to attend they all pay the £55?The award(s) can be presented ‘in absentia’ like sometimes happens in other award ceremonies if the winner isn’t there.
Any idea how many players and other ‘guests’ those who pay will be subsidising?3 -

Of course you have the right to have your say, it's a public forum but the people organising this are the best of our fans in my experience and I think the points you are challenging them on are a touch disrespectful to them.16 -
I for one need to know a lot more about the vegetarian menu options and seating plan before committing.0

If talking about costs and catering is disrespectful I suppose I owe some mysterious people an apology for not knowing my place in the hierarchy of fans.
As a fan I am of the level of ballast I suppose, but if you can quote something I have written that is objectively disrespectful then I will apologise to the mystery high ups.
An early post (and others) was a piss take of vegetarians. Do you think the piss take is aimed at all vegetarians or just one individual? Was that being disrespectful at all, or part of the jolly rough and tumble of message board interaction? In the highly unlikely event that I were organising a player of the season ceremony next year I wouldn’t offer food, and the cost would cover the basics like venue hire, security, and a PA. Attendance would not be mandatory for players, and if they wanted to come I would expect them to pay their share.4 -
I actually thought this was an official club event, I had no idea that its organised by fans.0
-
It is advertised on the club website but that advertisement says the event is organised by the ‘fans forum’.
It says it is organised by fans for the fans, and that we are all on this journey together.0 -

I'm not trying to twist your arm, just offering you the perspective of an outsider on the tone of your comments. I'm not one to pile on you or any poster on here and I respect your point of view. Whether or not you have been disrespected is immaterial to my point.
All that said, I don't care how you would organise a player of the season event, until you do.3 -

You make it sound as if the players turn up for such occasions as free loaders, there for a free meal.
They are there as part of the experience for the fans, to have a player on their table, to be able to take photos with them etc. They are giving up their evening to talk to fans, pose with them, answer boring questions etc, of course they shouldn't have to pay to attend.

Tickets booked as soon as they went on sale, as if previous years are the yardstick as to who you get on your table, the earlier you book the higher the profile of player. No complaints around those sat on our table in previous years, great company, but booked as soon as they went on sale with that in mind.Looking forward to it, have enjoyed going to lots of these in the past and what food is served up doesn’t bother me, as it eating stops me from chatting (non-stop 😂). We have just got to make sure Dobbo doesn’t go Hung(a)ry…Alfie will get my POTY vote and Anderson YPOTY.5

It beggars belief how every year (most probably), seth plum comes onto a player of the year thread to cause maximum disruption and disrespect to Charlton fans, players, management and the organisers.
It's shameful and I'd like anyone from the club reading this thread to rest assured that his warped views are his and his alone and do not represent the views of any other Charlton fan as far as I'm aware.
I'd like to apologise to the organisers and the club and let it be known that it's not in my/our name.15 -
Just a few comments from me as one of the POTY Dinner organisers since 2012. First of all, the menu. The main course is braised steak, with vegetarian lasagne as an alternative. Sorry if that does not float your boat. It is perfectly true that the event is organised by the fans, but it can not of course take place without the full co-operation of the club, so in reality it has always been a joint venture. Over the years, we have managed to keep the ticket price artificially low, because the club has picked up some expenses, such as the cost of the meals for the players and management. This is now a major issue, because by including the women's team, the total number involved is more than 70 people. The new senior management team are no longer willing to subsidise the Dinner, as before, and state quite properly that all available funds must go towards strengthening the team. Whether in favour of the Dinner or not, I think we all support that argument. So that is where we are, and I hope that those who oppose the event and always slaughter it on here, will cut us some slack and allow those who look forward to it and attend every year, to enjoy themselves. Although I would like to see you on 28th April, attendance is not compulsory.38
