We looked like we'd blown it after 2 overs and we had.
Jacks going for 22 was always likely to be crucial.

Embarrassing in all departments. Much like last year’s 50 over competition.

No confidence at all in Buttler or Mott’s leadership.

Buttler should not be keeping and captain especially when we have Salt in the side - the messaging from him to the bowlers is confused and too lengthy in delivery with him having to run up and down between balls. We need that fourth seamer (Australia had Stoinis and Marsh if need be) and Brook is wasted batting at 6.Drop Bairstow (7 off 13), move Brook up to 4 and bring in Sam Curran.

Australia came with a plan which they executed.

England decided to put a line up of their supposed best players on the field and hope it was enough.

Secret agent Mott has done a great job for Australia.

I see the (non) warm up matches in soggy England has helped enormously.

Bairstow a pitiful 7 off 13 just at a time when we simply had to push on was one of the pivotal moments……IMHO.

  • England have been poor in limited overs cricket for a while now.

Some big calls to  be made after this tournament

There's certainly a tournament that needs dropping

I'd expect Mott to go and Butler to lose the captaincy at least. Just so many weird decisions.

Decided to bowl Jacks 2nd over as a gut feeling after Moeen went for 3 in first over …

No other country matches us The Hundred format though.

This T20 squad is rotten from the head down
Numbskull selection No Topley v all those lefthanders Part time spin in the PP
Captain Butthead tries reverse sweep 3 times in same over 1st pops over fielder lucky into space 2nd tamely along floor to fielder 3rd tamely in air to same fielder and he’s already hit a 6 in same over so no real pressure
And Bairstow confirming his use only as a flat track bully who melts under any pressure at all
  • Totally agree with Addick Addict. I would also play Topley for Wood. Wood has shown he can bowl fast, but on these slower, variable bounce wickets he does not have sufficient variations to trouble the batsmen. So my team for the next match would have Salt wicket keeping, but Buttler still in the side. Curran in for Bairstow and Topley in for Wood.

The whole "we want to bat second as we aren't sure how the pitch will play" decision forgets that the team bowling second also has the advantage of seeing how the pitch will play, and which balls will get smacked when they come to bowl.

Can never seem to be good at red and white ball at the same time. Significant improvements in the test side then awful at limited overs cricket again

Indeed. It take us a long time to work out that pace off was the way forward. As was pointed out in commentary, Wood hasn't really developed the skillset to do that and when a batsman can just set himself for the quick ball then it makes it so much easier for them.

wise after the event ? .. giving Jacks the second over in preference to (say) Archer was a very bizarre piece of captaincy and cost us dear

Pakistan look like they want to win the game, as Azam Khan has been left out.

    India win by 6 runs
  • Pathetic run chase that was. Needed a run a ball 48 off the last 8 overs with wickets in hand and didn't even get close.

1 boundary for 7 and a bit overs overs until they decided to play some shots............with 3 balls left of the innings. Then hit 2 fours when it was too late. Absolutely no idea what they were trying to do.

A grim scenario where England NEED Australia to heavily beat Scotland, to bring down their NRR. Knowing Australia they'll push singles so that they only reach the winning total with an over to spare...
