Callumcafc said:I was under the impression that the Super 8s are determined by finishing position in the first group stage. But that would make too much sense.
Instead the top 8 teams were pre-allocated into Super 8 groups:
A: India, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka
B: Pakistan, England, West Indies, South Africa
Given the teams that have/haven’t yet qualified, the current group make-ups are:
A: India, Australia, Afghanistan, TBD1
B: TBD2, TBD3, West Indies, South Africa
TBD1: Bangladesh or Netherlands or Nepal
TBD2: USA or Pakistan or Canada or Ireland
TBD3: England or ScotlandUpdate after the rained off USA v Ireland.A: India, Australia, Afghanistan, TBD1
B: USA, TBD3, West Indies, South Africa
TBD1: Bangladesh or Netherlands or Nepal
TBD3: England or Scotland

SA beat Nepal by 1 run
Mad finish think Nepal needed 17 off 16 balls and got 1 run and lost 3 wickets in 8 deliveries to go 6 down
so 16 off 8 needed, six and 2 , so 8 off 6 needed
dot dot 4 , so 4 off 3 needed
2 , so 2 off 2 needed
goes through to keeper standing back and they don’t run
2 off 1 needed
goes through to keeper on the last ball De Kock throws it to bowlers end batsmen runs down the middle hits his back and drops to Klaasen and the batter hesitates for a brief moment and is just run out , carnage

Looks like a 20-30% chance of rain in Antigua tomorrow, and less than 5% chance in St Lucia.

been discussion about Dylan's 'Times They are a Changin' recently, very true in cricket, at least 20/20 .. Afghanistan and USA through to the 'super 8s', NZ and Sri Lanka out, though some freak outcomes owing to terrible weather0

They have to try to play it or the tournament becomes a farce1

I thought I saw a great puddle just beyond the covers. Looked like water had just ran off them onto the outfield.SpaldingRed said:Looking a bit brighter. Cover coming off the spider cam0 -
Never known a cricket WC have so many games affected by the weather.1

Same here, might as well have played it in Manchester.golfaddick said:Never known a cricket WC have so many games affected by the weather.0 -
The puddles are on some ICC advertising which gets removed before match starts. Just waiting for one black cloud to pass over before the covers come offgolfaddick said:

What kind of nutter organises a cricket tournament somewhere during the rainy season? There's a 60% chance of rain each day (normally in the afternoon) in Lauderhill, Florida and around 50% chance in Antigua - which is about the driest of the Caribbean Islands. Bonkers.1

The nutter who sells out to the highest bidder.cafcfan said:What kind of nutter organises a cricket tournament somewhere during the rainy season? There are so many franchise T20 tournaments around the world, that scheduling a world cup isn't easy.cafcfan said:What kind of nutter organises a cricket tournament somewhere during the rainy season? As it is, it clashes with OUR T20 Blast. I'm sure the ECB wouldn't have let it be played at the same time as the 100...2 -
Golfie just had a cloud burst and there are puddles on the outfield now0

Could be karma for Scotland in a different sport here…Tartan Army went to the wrong tournament.1

So we could end up going out of a tournament at the group stage with a nrr of over 3? Does seem a little unfair. Thing is, if we had played better against the Aussies but lost narrowly, we could have been eliminated with an even higher nrr…0

There is a puddle on the cover, rest of it's wet too. So, not great signs. The skies have gotten darker and there's no one on the ground half an hour ahead of the next update.0

Could be that the Scottish cricket team will still be competing after their football team has gone home0

Wrong thread lol0

Even the corrupt cash obsessed ICC hadn't (yet) scheduled a major tournament at the start of a region's rainy season and doubled down on the chances of washed out games by timing some matches for early-mid afternoon when thunderstorms are most common.golfaddick said:Never known a cricket WC have so many games affected by the weather.
Much lower chance of rain after 7pm in the Caribbean at this time if year
All grounds have floodlights so daylight not an issue.
Could it be Indian subcontinent tv coverage timing plays a part?
Even the group structure - odd numbers - speaks to ICC's disregard for tournament integrity - teams playing the last game in each group have the massive advantage of knowing what they need to progress, points NRR, etc.
Group outcomes more influenced by the relative strength of the opposition in washed out games v the games teams get to play1 -
The weather is deciding who qualifies in this competition.
It's an absolute joke.
Hopefully August will be nice and sunny back in England so we can watch some good quality county cricket.
Oh hang on.3 -
3pm: Update is in, and it's predictably grim. Ian Ward says we are losing overs already. 4:46pm local is the latest point at which a five-over game can begin. But it's still raining, and every time it has stopped and the staff come on to clear things up, it restarts. At least it's not stopping the cricket fans are playing in the concourse.
