One thing I will say, at least we have a left back going into first game of presason this year, was it the last 2 years where we didn't have a single one?5

In previous years we’ve seen us sell a key striker and then get a nobody in.
On this occasion we’ve acted quickly in replacing a proven goal scorer with a forward who also knows where the net is.It might leave a sour taste selling May to a rival but this feels like progress in some respect.I’ll reserve judgment on whether or not this was a bad move.3 -

There has been nothing 'bold' about this transfer window so far at all, not the good kind of bold anyway.
The same people who are using Mays age as a justification to move him on, are you happy signing Godden who's older?
I reckon Godden will end our striker business, wouldn't surprise me at all, or it will be a gamble/league 1 donkey and the usual spin about getting 'Chuks being match fit will be a force' will be the discussion.
Funny how we are targeting the goalies who are out of our price range, and now it's back to the classic 'they were mugging us off'. Surely just go and buy one of the better goalies from the league? Thought we were shopping in a different market after all..

Godden is a good signing if it happens but some teams build good squads not good first elevens, not that we have either currently.4

A question, if May gets 20+ this season and we replace him with Godden who then gets let's say 16 or so, considering the 850k would people feel that decent business?
Ie not fully replacing Alfie's goals but still respectable numbers + a fee0 -

I just hope we have somebody lined up to replace him as Godden was always reliable. His goal ratio was 1 in 3 which is great considering how many were apps from the bench this past season. Will be keeping an eye on how many goals he scores for Charlton.

That the line that has been served up on here is along the lines of 'we are shopping in a different market now' and already 'money' is the stumbling block. We even needed money so much so, that we have sold the biggest goal threat in the league to a promotion rival, that we can't get near in terms of resources.DubaiCAFC said:

I don't believe a word these owners say. This will be a constant thing this window. The harsh reality is, we had 4 good players last season, 3 have left/been sold, and the other is yet to sign a contract extension.
May has been sold to fund the incomings we have had, so far. It will not shock me at all if we break even this window, or thereabouts, which we cannot afford to do. We have all just witnessed one of the worst Charlton sides ever, the only ones who were stopping us from being the worst side in the league, are all gone bar a couple.
We need to spend a fair few million to turn this mess around, do I see us doing that? No. As we have already cashed in, or attempted to cash in (Dobsons case) on all our best players so far.
I just don't see how this is any different from the previous owners/windows we have had.27 -
In the end the if May only gets a dozen goals for Birmingham and Godden gets double that for us, if Birmingham go up an we don't then we still lost out.
We know May is capable of getting 20+ goals for us, we know he is capable of getting it for an even worse team then us, we should be adding to our very small number of proven quality players, not selling them to those we are competing with.

The obvious counter is of course to find that aerial threat IN ADDITION to Alfie not instead of but Godden does at least seem have the edge in physical terms.
Crosses are a large part of the Jones style so I imagine either way they'd be something gets a lot of work done over preseason.

Then you'll get comments like 'if May was so good, why didn't a championship club buy him', 'if Dobson was so good, why didn't a championship club come in for him'.
The same argument could be used about the players we have signed/will sign. If Edwards was so good, why was it only us and Bristol Rovers in for him, if Mitchell is so good, why was it only us and Lincoln interested him, and not other championship sides.
Which to make clear, I don't actually mind those signings, but that's how easily it can be flipped. I just don't understand the blind faith, when every window is more or less identical. I will be gobsmacked if we make more than 2 substantial bids to sign players.22
