A team that beats Germany, France and England to win the Euros deserves it. Weird that all were 2-1 wins.

Yes you make your own luck, but we had a much easier route to the final. Once we came up against a top side, our limitations were exposed.

This defeat doesn't feel as gutting as the Italy one. Spain were a better side. Frustrating is we have players who can keep the ball and look threatening but all throughout we scrapped past teams.

Maybe that is it for Southgate, I wouldn't be against a change but he's done wonders for the national side compared to the past

We were shit all the way through the tournament. one decent half against holland the rest was dog shit, all boils down to the palace cu*t in charge. He should have been sacked when we lost to croatia all them years ago. Boring scum of a manager who has failed with the best squad in europe and possibly the worlld. Fucking loser.

Last time v Italy I was fucking broken. Felt like a massive missed opportunity.

This time I’m naturally gutted but we’ve stunk for pretty much the whole tournament and shithoused our way through.

Come up against a better side and the better side won.

Southgate won’t win a tournament with us. Off you fuck - get to as many finals as you want but we still haven’t won it so who gives a shit. No prizes for coming second
To win you have to get to finals first… let’s hope the next bloke is as lucky with the draws and byes to the finals as Southgate at that.

Silly argument when it was Iceland who knocked us out in the tournament before Southgate… fat lot of good a nice draw did for us then
We’ve had the easiest draws we could have asked for
shitness previously doesn’t mean we should accept us being shit in the future

we were favourites against Croatia and Italy and failed like we did when even bigger favourites against Iceland

yes you can only beat what’s in front of you but we never punch up , we always eventually punch down

would I want Southgate to manage Scotland , wales , palace or millwall … yes please everyone of em and twice on Sundays
We were favourites against Italy and Croatia. But those were in a final and a semi final. It’s arguable that we only managed to get to those games in the first place because of Southgate.

We would’ve lost the shootout to Colombia in 2018. We would’ve lost to Germany in the Euros before we even sniffed the final against the Italians. Hell, we would’ve lost to the Dutch in the past midweek or the Swiss before that.

Ultimately if you don’t win the whole thing it doesn’t matter when you get knocked out but I just know already that we’re going to go back to losing in the Round of 16 and Quarter Final as soon as we try to employ Eddie Howe or Graham Potter.

Williams is the type of forward I like, he plays as a winger and central and Yamal couldn't get away from Shaw 1st half but as the attacks increased in the 2nd half  he received the ball wide and set up Nico Williams for the winner.
Dani Olmo had a great tournament after replacing the injured Pedri and did the header off the line.

I was gutted after losing to Italy at Wembley in the last Euro's but this would've been a mugging and I wonder if Gordon will do a Ben White if GS stays ?
Had a great 5 minutes in a group game and then no more minutes !

we are in an era where people can be circumspect about the quality of the oppositon after losing multiple finals - 14 year old me was in tears and devastated after losing in the last 16 against Argentina in '98 - I won't even go into '96 - that's my era - I can sleep tonight knowing we are on a wildly different projectory now.

Hard to know how to feel after that. As much as we weren't horrific, Spain were comfortably the better team.

Did we sit back after our goal due to our mentality? Or was it due to the fact our players are absolutely knackered?

I'll always view Southgate as a manager that brought hope back to the national side. But surely after two final failures he must be ready to hang it up. I wouldn't be totally opposed to him taking one more tournament, but I don't think it'll yield a different outcome.

I love Harry Kane, but I think this could probably be the end for him (at least as a starter) in an England shirt. We need a striker that can stretch that play and press with intensity.

The quality is there in abundance, it is a young squad, but it needs a manager that is going to promote confident, flowing attacking football.

Let's hope for the best for the next World Cup and a good season from Charlton to ease the pain.

    Gutted.

Am I right on saying Southgate is a Palace man, and that the first goal was Guehi not getting close enough, the second was scored by the bloke Guehi was marking and Guehi headed a weak header straight at Olmo on the line instead of equalising for us.
Looks like we can simply lay the blame on our neighbours and move on.

Doesn’t sting anywhere near as much as Italy. They were fucking crap. At least Spain were a good side
100% this, Italy were there for the taking in a very winnable final. We needed to catch Spain on a very bad day to win tonight.

Better team won. Gutted but as others have said, Italy hurt much worse.

Kane left on too long imo and I'm hoping that's his last major tournament. Spain were simply sublime at times. The speed in which they can move forward was brilliant.

We go again in 2 years for the big one.

Expect a semi final kick in the bollocks by Argentina, no doubt

And one final thing - that second Spain goal was superb.

I was mad losing to Italy. I do think that we had the players to beat Spain, but they did outclass us tonight in the crucial moments.

Spain win 7 out of 7 in the 90 minutes + added time.
England win 1 out of 7 in the 90 minutes + added time which included being in the poor group C.

    First defeat under Labour.

    Starmer Out.

Yer but we got to a final in the first week of new government with no experience of a major tournament.

We were favourites in all those games you mention , we were undefeated in 1982 and still went out cos of the pony format ,
England have been beyond lucky with their draws and not capitalised
should, have lost in final to France 2018 beaten Italy 2021 and losing to Spain is fair this tourney , there’s nothing majorly impressive results wise with these players against those opponents we’ve faced , of course losing to Iceland is shittier than any of it
losing to Germany 1990 and 1996 is fair Argentina 1998 Brazil 2002 as soon as anyone decent comes along we lose in the knock outs , fair enough and we do throw in crap ones but Croatia should have been some and so should Italy , they were under par results .

The original post said 7/7 for Spain so it’d be 3/7 for England - Serbia, Netherlands and Slovakia.

If you’re not including Slovakia for England you can’t include Germany for Spain, making their count 6/7.

This is a minge of a tournament anyway , it’s all about The World Cup and Spain are the team to beat , these players with the right manager( if one actually exists) and a favourable draw  could give them a run for their money

Italy was definitely the one that hurt the most, but we were only a couple of penalties away from winning the trophy, the closest we’ve been since 1966, and then we’re having a completely different conversation.

It’s typical England that we’ve won 3/4 penalty shootouts under Gareth and the one we lost was the final in our own national stadium.

You are correct Neil, Watkins scored in the last minute of added time against the Dutch. It's been a long tournament.

Alf Ramsey was ballsy dropping Greaves in 1966 for Hurst
In Hindsight could Safegate have gambled and binned off Kane at any point .

And Spain needed 30 extra minutes for one of their victories so not technically 7/7 in 90 minutes and added time. Unless you want to give England the victory over Slovakia too…
