England v Spain: Euro 2024 Final, 14 July

  • Rio and Micah have changed their tune. I don't remember them being so critical earlier in the tournament.
  • Painful though it may be no one, objectively, could look at that game and say the result was wrong.

Better than us all over the park BUT the post Southgate era coming looks very, very encouraging providing we don't appoint another overly cautious manager.
  • Imagine there's a bit of a sigh of relief on here...

Imagine had Southgate had won this Tournament with a lot of the comments on here this Tournament, you'd have looked mugs a lot of you!!
Zero negativity between the semi final performance and the final.

But sure crack on pretending people wanted England to lose.

Gutted today as it was within our grasp with 10 mins to go.

Piss off Lineker, with that "its a win for attacking Football"
He's not wrong though, is he?
They didnt attack when they were pegged back by Germany and France.

They just wasted 4-mins of injury time by rolling around on the floor, they brought foul after cheap foul against France, and managed a few tonight - Was that the beautiful game right there?
  • Well I’m gutted.

Our defenders ran out of steam on 80-85 minutes (more extra time played… a day less rest…) and it ended up costing us.

Fully expected a draw in 90 minutes or a narrow Spain win so at least it doesn’t hurt as much as it might have.

Keep getting to finals and we’ll win one eventually.
  • on the plus  side I predicted 2-1, Spain first scorer and named the scorer on my work prediction league so at least I’ve won enough for a good beer or two.

I hope Walker gets one more tourney. One of our best defenders still at his age. Just please stop tucking into midfield.
But got caught out of position time and time again tonight. He should realise that his pace can't save him every time.

Yeah because you suddenly changed your tune... Easy to do when that happens isnt it

Rice constantly gave the ball away and then missed the easiest third header from the late corner. Yet let’s make Kane who wasn’t even on the pitch the scapegoat.

Jeez, we got to the final and thousands of fans had a lot of fun along the way. Then we lost to the best team of the tournament.
Can we stop beating ourselves up just for once? Juan Mata is talking the most sense in the BBC studio.
Gary Lineker says it’s a painful business losing finals. He wouldn’t know for England, would he?
  • Great to see us in another final but in reality we played one decent proactive half in the whole tournament.

But did better that Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, and some other great footballing nations. And Scotland.

It says a lot about that game though that all our best players were defenders (or late subs).
  • Last time v Italy I was fucking broken. Felt like a massive missed opportunity.

This time I’m naturally gutted but we’ve stunk for pretty much the whole tournament and shithoused our way through.

Come up against a better side and the better side won.

Southgate won’t win a tournament with us. Off you fuck - get to as many finals as you want but we still haven’t won it so who gives a shit. No prizes for coming second
To win you have to get to finals first… let’s hope the next bloke is as good as Southgate at that.
Those who came before him managed well enough, so I'm sure Southgate's replacement will do just fine - Really hope he goes now, as the criticism that he hadnt won the Tournament during the Group Stages was just ridiculous

Because we performed well and actually looked like a team that had a chance?

Criticism happens with poor performance, praise happens with good performance. It's football.

The idea that anyone is rooting against England on here is moronic.
  • Spain were so obviously superior to us that only losing 2-1 makes us look better than we are.

Southgate needed to be braver with the selections and I think tonight showed that up more than ever. Yes I get it Kane is the captain and he was our top scorer, but you cannot tell me we look good with him in the side. Every time we took him off we got better, and we should have said fuck it, bench him and see if he can be the difference maker late on instead of having him stroll about for an hour
Taking Kane off made no difference tonight.

It made a difference initially as we had more tempo when Watkins came on but we needed the five subs on the field by the 80th minute to keep the momentum we got with the goal.
  • Been said before but, the best team won. This Spanish team will get even better.
I'm  still very proud of our team; as they should be

Lol ok, apart from the fact we played faster football, had a focal point up top in Watkins and scored a goal from the edge of the box because we actually had a couple of players in their box for a change?

Anyone watching ITV hear Dixon call Southgate a genius after Palmer scored. A genius for doing what 98% of the Nation have been shouting at their telly screens to do, for the last 3 weeks? Jesus christ.....
It’s a strong field, but I think Dixon is the worst  commentator.

I mean the entire Tournament, you've been screaming at Southgate saying who he should be playing, and who shouldn't - Cant wait to see your tenure as a Manager.

You're constant moaning, and slagging off whether its England / Charlton is just tiresome

    Around 2082?
  • Pity that Kane & Bellingham were way off their  best, especially Kane - carrying  an injury?
  • Sitting back.Spain score. Start pressing... we score. Sit back again..... Spain score.

It's very simple when you look at it, and they never learn. It was the same vs Italy in the final. We scored and sat back. You can't do that at any level of football.

Kane did fuck all again. Pointless him being on the pitch.
My goodness you’ve cracked it - someone at the FA needs to give you a call.
