Anyone watching ITV hear Dixon call Southgate a genius after Palmer scored. A genius for doing what 98% of the Nation have been shouting at their telly screens to do, for the last 3 weeks? Jesus christ.....
Do people watch ITV given the choice 🤷‍♂️

Let's not turn on one another chaps. It's frustrating but we all follow in different ways.
    Piss off
     Well it is bed time.
It is indeed. When England equalised my two boys were hugging me and crying. I'm gutted for them.

Gutted but realised a long time ago I’ll never see England win a major tournament. Spain were by far the better side

Mind you we are still streets ahead of the jocks.
The Jocks & Columbia are the only teams to best Spain in the past 40 matches.

It hurts that Spain played at a higher level of intensity than we were able to.

We have a manager who is tactically naive. Why would you wait until the first round of the competition to try out a right footed left back. It was not Trippiers fault.
Spains left winger Williams was their most dangerous forward yet he was left in acres of space tonight.

    Well I’m gutted.

Our defenders ran out of steam on 80-85 minutes (more extra time played… a day less rest…) and it ended up costing us.

Fully expected a draw in 90 minutes or a narrow Spain win so at least it doesn’t hurt as much as it might have.

Keep getting to finals and we’ll win one eventually.
    Around 2082?
Maybe 2082 until we get to another final if we f*ck it up from here and try to be clever by appointing a successful club football manager.

Southgate has shown us the path to success in tournament competition. Whether it’s him or a successor, keep doing what we’ve been doing the last 6 years and we will win one sooner rather than later.

Last time v Italy I was fucking broken. Felt like a massive missed opportunity.

This time I’m naturally gutted but we’ve stunk for pretty much the whole tournament and shithoused our way through.

Come up against a better side and the better side won.

Southgate won’t win a tournament with us. Off you fuck - get to as many finals as you want but we still haven’t won it so who gives a shit. No prizes for coming second
To win you have to get to finals first… let’s hope the next bloke is as lucky with the draws and byes to the finals as Southgate at that.

Southgate needed to be braver with the selections and I think tonight showed that up more than ever. Yes I get it Kane is the captain and he was our top scorer, but you cannot tell me we look good with him in the side. Every time we took him off we got better, and we should have said fuck it, bench him and see if he can be the difference maker late on instead of having him stroll about for an hour
Taking Kane off made no difference tonight.

It made a difference initially as we had more tempo when Watkins came on but we needed the five subs on the field by the 80th minute to keep the momentum we got with the goal.
That was more to do with having to up the tempo to chase a goal than Watkins coming on. I’m not disagreeing Kane is a problem
and may not fit this team as we go into future tournaments, but Watkins barely had a touch, had little space to run into, and couldn’t control the ball when the one half chance came his way. He wasn’t a particularly impactful sub imo.

I hope Southgate moves on, it feels time, I hope whoever replaces him is less conservative in their tactics. BUT we got to the final, we battled back from losing positions, we had a plan today that worked for 45 minutes. It hasn’t been a total failure and Southgate has got things right as well as wrong.

My England supporting experience started with Italia 90 and losing narrowly in the final is a different kind of disappointment to losing to Romania or Iceland or not even qualifying in 94.

The better team won. I didn't expect us to win but felt Spain were not as special as i expected them to be and if we were a bit braver maybe we could have produced a few more chances. Nevermind, another 2 years of my life until I might see my country lifting a trophy.

My daughters are Spanish but swung right behind England. The one bright spot in an evening of typical England Misery.

Piss off Lineker, with that "its a win for attacking Football"
He's not wrong though, is he?
They didnt attack when they were pegged back by Germany and France.

They just wasted 4-mins of injury time by rolling around on the floor, they brought foul after cheap foul against France, and managed a few tonight - Was that the beautiful game right there?
No one attacks when they are being pegged back. That's in the nature of being pegged back.

As for the other stuff, rightly or wrongly, that's what coaches call gamesmanship. Unfortunately, it's a necessary part of the game nowadays. It's got nothing to do with attacking football though. Attacking teams do it, defensive teams do it, good teams do it, bad teams do it. You don't like it, I don't like it, it just is.

Nothing you have said alters the glaringly obvious fact. Spain were the best attacking team both in the tournament and on the night. And by that what GL said was entirely fair.

    Disappointed with Malta, frankly.

I mean it's just clearly fake. Portugal preferring Spain to win?

Not even all of Spain would be supporting Spain :joy:

Catalonia are like the Liverpool of Spain.
The Basque Country even more so.

Our players play like Spain do for their clubs. Southgate is too old fashioned and cautious to get them to play like that for England.
I will never forget us going on the back foot against Italy three years ago. We would have won that game had we gone on the offensive.

They've just said that Kane has had one touch in the penalty box in total in the last two Euro Finals. He wasn't fit but, equally, he didn't score all 44 goals for Bayern Munich this season from outside the box that's for sure.

Tbf mate, I like Roy Keane out of all the offerings across the board, so nationality not really an issue for me.

Difficult to touch it in the box if you spend 50 of your 60 mins strolling around in midfield

We’ve had the easiest draws we could have asked for
shitness previously doesn’t mean we should accept us being shit in the future

we were favourites against Croatia and Italy and failed like we did when even bigger favourites against Iceland

yes you can only beat what’s in front of you but we never punch up , we always eventually punch down

would I want Southgate to manage Scotland , wales , palace or millwall … yes please everyone of em and twice on Sundays

Let's pick a winner as manager next. Southgate has never won anything major as a player or manager bar one League Cup. He is out of his depth with the young players around him and only still manager because the FA suits like his media friendly image.
