If the Kayak Cross is as good as the Snowboard Cross in the winter Olympics it should be worth watching.1

Does she have an uncle Jack?Chizz said:Yesterday, Charlotte Dujardin was profiled in Horse and Hound and described as someone who "could become Britain's most decorated female athlete of all time" were she to win any medal at the Paris Olympics.
Today, she has pulled out, following a video released from four years ago. Heroine to zeroine.0 -

This is an absolutely amazing story:

I’m looking forward to the road and track cycling and the athletics.0 -
I see Snoop Dog is gonna carry the Olympic torch. I hope it’s a massive spliff.1

Emma Finucane is in with a chance of three sprint golds according to Dame Laura Kenny.
She is the fastest woman on two wheels - holding the sea level record time for 200 metres.
As an aside she is the great niece of Paddy Finucane a fighter pilot in the battle of Britain of whom a Netflix film is being made.2 -
For me he’s the greatest British sportsman (his Olympic golds are pretty important too, if not quite the equivalent in my eyes to a slam). It’s an entirely subjective thing though and can understand the arguments for others. We’re fortunate to have many to choose from!MrOneLung said:But in the biggest tournaments (The Slams) he won 1 in 20

🤣 that’s on purpose (the Daley post)
Impossible to call greatest British sportsman. Redgrave, Hoy, Peaty, Brownlee, Calzaghe, all dominated their events but require different athleticism.2 -

These cross sports Superstars debates used to be resolved with, well Superstars. Wasn't it Brian Jacks who kept winning that? Can't remember if he ever came up against a Jockey Wilson or Steve Davis though. 🤣4

looks like Dujardin was jumping before she was pushed. now banned for 6 months for whipping a horse 24 times in a minute. wonder how many more times she's had 'an error of judgement' that didn't get filmed8

They're always so sorry. When they've been caught.rina said:looks like Dujardin was jumping before she was pushed. now banned for 6 months for whipping a horse 24 times in a minute. wonder how many more times she's had 'an error of judgement' that didn't get filmed10 -
I watch the dressage and wonder, how do they get a horse to do that? Now I have a bit more information when I ask myself that question.1

Reigning champions and have a great shot at retaining the gold.mr.se7 said:Men’s 4x200m freestyle relay. A few different teams going for it including GB. Always a cracker2 -

You missed the greatest of them all - Lester Piggott!

This is the one of the new sports that I'm most looking forward to. It sounds completely mad.fat man on a moped said:If the Kayak Cross is as good as the Snowboard Cross in the winter Olympics it should be worth watching.
Other than that, track cycling, athletics and watching the new sports out of curiosity will be the plan. Baseball's not back until 2028 otherwise I'd be planning things around that.0 -
Not for me - how about Lennox Lewis, Mark Cavendish, Ian Botham, loads of others ahead of MurrayChizz said:I am looking forward to seeing Andy Murray finally bow out of his tennis career. Britain's most successful professional athlete, in my view.2 -

It's so subjective when comparing different sports.
Horses and cars have a lot to do with how good, jockeys and drivers are. It really isn't a level playing field in Horse racing and F1.
Even in Olympic Cycling don't the teams with the biggest budgets have the superior bikes ?
I'm talking a split second maybe ?

Lennox Lewis, Mark Cavendish and others are brilliant athletes, no doubt. But did either of them demonstrate they were so far ahead of every other British competitor in their sport?Blackheathen said:

The list of Britain's World Heavyweight Champions is Lennox Lewis, Michael Bentt, Herbie Hide, Frank Bruno, Henry Akinwande, David Haye, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
The list of British Tour de France Winners (in recent years) is Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas.
The list of British tennis Grand Slam winners in the open era is: Andy Murray. The list of Men's Singles Olympic Gold medals retained is: Andy Murray.1 -
Back to Olympics 👏🏼
Tug of war should be in the Olympics:
Since 1920 it has had the old heave-ho and is only seen at Village fetes.
Wouldn't seeing both men and women having a good old tug make for a good spectacle 🙄
Plus seeing how good our rowers have been in the last 6 Olympics another sport where you go backwards would be advantageous for GB !3 -
Difficult to compare Cavendish to those that you mention though... Seeing that Cycling has different categories with riders, is a very narrow minded approach classing them together - Its like comparing Ederson with de Bruyne as Footballers.Chizz said:

Although "technically" Cavendish has won the Tour de France (x2) - He's won the Points Competition, rather than the GC.
Not to mention he'll go down as one of the greatest Sprinters in the entire Sport0 -
Kicks off today at 2pm!!1

We've had plenty of sportsmen that were the unrivalled best in their sport at one time or another at their peak.
Murray didn't really crack the top 3 in his sport at any point. Yes he won tournaments but he was always considered 'best of the rest'.0 -
Strange for me to disagree with Chizz! Don’t forget that you are comparing Murray to others in different sports. Just because he was the only British winner in the Open era doesn’t, in my view, elevate him to the greatest or most successful British athlete of all time.Chizz said:

Im not going back on Lennox although Randy Turpin’s win over Sugar Ray Robinson was one of the great sporting upsets in my memory (not the same thing I know)0 -
