I quite like the jacket/track top though

So they are getting rid of lightweight double skulls rowing from the Olympics, but horse dancing to shyte music remains. And that global sport, baseball, will appear in Los Angeles.
Great to see Team GB ahead of the medal tracker compared with Tokyo. Hard to imagine team GB came 36th at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.1 -

Why add it?
If the number of athletes is an issue, scrap horse dancing and their huge associated entourages and horse transport [carbon and financial] costs. Not exactly sport for all.1 -

Because every country who hosts can add a couple of events to the main rotation.Baseball and softball were also included in Tokyo as they are mad about the sport. Will probably be dropped again in 2032
this year the French added Breaking/Street dance1 -

I'm happy to accept that baseball has a less strong case for inclusion than basketball or ice hockey (to pick a couple of American sports). But how many countries play hockey? Or rugby sevens? Or synchronised diving? Should we just restrict the Olympics to athletics and football as the only truly global sports?0 - Sponsored links:

Aren't we getting T20 cricket for the LA games too? Or is that more likely for Brisbane?0

That's going to cause some interesting discussions about selection etc and what happens to the domestic game during it!0 -

After the Scandal of Charlotte Dujardin, none of the competitors use a whip to lash their horse's hooves to make them dance.
Burning embers work just as well 🐴😱0 -
Minji Song of Korea could be worth watching in the Women's road race.
Lizzie Deignan nee Armitage has longevity as she is still in the GB team.

on that basis I'd be ditching the following from this year's program-
football
breaking
road cycling
golf
skateboarding
basketball probably stays because the olympics is the pinnacle to everyone but the americans
boxing stays but must remain as amateurs only
-edit- forgot to add, tennis stays as while the olympics isn't the pinnacle of the sport the golden slam is regarded really highly
and there are a few that are in a grey area
I'd also get rid of swimming because it's really boring

Jon Rahm four shots clear of the field heading into the last nine holes of the golf.
Fleetwood hanging in there, in a tie for 2nd with Matsuyama.

Our tennis commentators are now showing an obvious bias to Alcaraz. ‘Novak is living on scraps’ as Djokovic pulls off text book serves and returns to win the first set tie break.0

Two bogeys in a row for Rahm and two birdies in a row for Fleetwood. Neck and neck, six holes to go.0

But that's the point with Djokovic (and other champions etc) isn't it? Even when he's looking second best he scraps for his life, then wins the set.0 -
Unfortunate fall for Becky Downie on the Parallel Bars when she was looking very strong.0
