Emile Cairess fourth in the marathon. We do seem to be getting a lot of 4th places, but this one was a case of winning the sprint for 4th when the top 3 were a long way up the road, not the usual thing of missing a medal by a tiny fraction. And he'd been contesting the medals for quite a lot of the race which can't have made that sprint any easier. Well done.

I find it bizarre, and actually quite worrying, that some people can form some very clear and entrenched views based on "facts" that just aren't true at all. 

Obviously we've seen that recently with all the aggro around the UK, but this is another example of where the facts don't seem to trouble some people.

For example, my mum is insistent that the Algerian "is a man",  even though nobody in any sort of official, or semi-official, capacity has ever said that, as far as I'm aware.

Gold for China in the 102kg male weightlifting. Great atmosphere with a lot or Chinese and Armenian fans in attendance. I kept my union flag in the bag as we didn't have anyone competing but quite a few were on display.

How am I being transphobic when this particular boxer isn’t trans? They identify as female and I’m not disputing the fact that they identify as such. That’s up to them.
What isn’t right is that there has been no evidence that she is scientifically a female. And I refuse to be lectured to by men (because let’s face it, most on here in the boxers corner, are men) that tell me my and other women’s reservations on this issue are irrelevant and then throw the anti trans rubbish at us.

What evidence do you need? 

Her passport says she is female and I'm sure her birth certificate says the same thing. 
If you say that having a womb/female external organs is evidence then would you want every female competitor strip-searched before every event, removing them of their dignity? Or only the 'manly' looking ones? What if she passed that, is that enough?
If you say it's about the XX chromosome. There's 1 in every 25,000 men that have a XX chromosome. Are they now allowed, as men, to compete in a female event because of their chromosomes? 

This is why the talk about 'they're not female enough' is such a difficult thing to judge and measure.

I wasn’t talking about the boxer in question when I said that.
Leaving aside the IBA, the IOC used the fact that this particular boxer was identified as female on her birth certificate therefore her passport says female.
Thats it, that’s the evidence that was deemed good enough.

Until real science is used, I refuse to be told by any man that there hasn’t been an injustice here. 

Hang on, hang on. I know this can be an emotive subject, but that's the second or third time you've said you're refusing to listen to opinions just because they have been given by men. Is that really what you meant to say? If so then that's a very slippery slope to be going down ....... it's in the same ball park as a man saying he wouldn't listen to the opinion of a woman about football, just because shes a woman.
