So Haas partnering with Toyota from the Austin GP onwards (with Toyota branding) , but retaining the Ferrari engine - which seems a bit odd.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/articles/cly6xgld5npo
It's so they can utilise their technological input on manufacturing, fabrication and expertise in mechanics. They'll still be buying as many parts as possible from Ferrari. They're basically outsourcing as much as they can get away with

Red Bull are removing a device which helps change ride height. Obviously they never used in races as they are a good honest bunch

Fastest lap point being dropped from next year.

What? Oh that old thing, yeah we just put it on the car for a laugh, never used it. Dont even know what it does really. Must be one of Newey's little practical jokes.

Think that’s good in my opinion. It’s too easy to exploit as shown last time out. I know Red Bull/RB is unusual but with teams effectively loaning drivers to each other it’s just more opportunities to mess around

Should get a point for pole position instead

Yes, it has been abused and used in a different way than was envisaged so right to drop it.

Still open to abuse I think though. First runs in Q3 are done, second driver goes and has a small shunt or spin, out come the yellow flags.

I'm not sure teams would ruin a grid position for a solitary point, compared to chucking softs on a back marker late on in the race

They could do that now just to secure pole, so no difference really.

Yeah they would. Using this season as an example...It's much closer than it is now between Max & Lando. Everyone has done a run in Q3. Max on provisional pole, Lando second. Sergio is down in 8th cause he's shite.

Sergio comes out first, has an "accidental" spin into the gravel, yellow flags out, everyone else is ruined. Point goes to Max.

Added bonus is that Sergio starts on the hard tyres, goes long and tries to slow up Lando during the race.
  • Freddie Slater stepping up to FRECA next season rather than going straight to F3.

Not surprising given that the Prema seats in the latter have all been taken up... Plus I guess we'll see him in GB3 as well

Be interesting to see how he does against the experienced FRECA drivers who do a second season at that level

Max back at P1. Might be a bad weekend for the title fight

Looks like Max and Red Bull are back. Norris won't get close to winning this title unfortunately

And Lando is back on pole with Max’s teammate all the way down in 10th. There’s more twists and turns in this yet

Russell did Lando a favour. Norris's first lap was ace
  • Norris really does need to sort his starts out. Awful again.

No real bearing on the race but that’s a ridiculous penalty for Russell

He was bloody well alongside him... Martin Brundle got it spot on, might as well drive off the track as a defending driver to ensure that the person passing you gets penalised on that basis
  • This is about to get very interesting. Norris eating into Verstappen's lead and should catch him soon.

Great attack vs defence here between Max and Lando...

Can only respect Verstappen when he keeps it clean like this, excellent racing

Yeah, he’s doing a fantastic job
  • I do wonder though if Norris is respecting Verstappen a bit too much.

We've certainly seen others like Leclerc / Russell / Hamilton be more aggressive with him
  • Waaaaa he over took me off track.

no you utterly insufferable Dutch prick you pushed him off track so he had nowhere to go
  • Norris should give the position back, Gasly got a penalty for that outside move

Gasly wasn’t pushed off in the same way, think Norris did nothing wrong there
  • Either way; Russell has had a great race from the pits... Shame he had to start there

A 5 second penalty is really, really harsh. What should have been a psychological blow to Verstappen is voided because Verstappen drove like an idiot and threw his toys out the pram
  • Norris is an idiot... Knew he was getting a penalty the moment that incident happened; Stewards have been consistent with that all race - Should have given the position back, and he'd have had a couple of laps to try the pass again.

Verstappen always likes to run the other guy off track. Shame would have kept the title race a bit closer
